The campaign has been actively promoted by Queiroz Galvão. Lopes was awarded an iPod Shuffle for submitting the best WISE (Working in Safe Environments) Card during the month of June. The objective of the campaign is to improve the quality of the safety program within all BRAM companies. Introducing a New Vessel Inspection Team In February, BRAM management announced the creation of a new vessel inspection team to aid management in the continual effort to further the company’s high standards of performance. The team performs vessel inspections as per USCG, ABS and local port state control guidelines. These inspections aid to identify existing or potential issues prior to scheduled authority and class inspections. The team’s findings assist operations, maintenance teams and vessel crews in maintaining or improving the overall condition of the vessels working in this sector. The vessel inspection team consists of Captains Les Downey and Barry Rodriguez, along with Chief Engineers Bobby Armstrong and Charlie Thompson. Together, the team has 114 years of combined working experience on vessels in the offshore industry. The Clinic’s mission is to provide preventive and curative medical services, serving those seeking prevention, rehabilitation or increased productivity by promoting wellness and improving the quality of life. Since opening its doors, the Clinic has provided a range of medical and dental services. The medical department features an onsite laboratory, an electrocardiogram room, an audiology department, a spirometer and an emergency room. In May, the clinic expanded to include a psychology department. The new department employs two full-time psychologists, Doctors Vanini and Leite. Both doctors are available during working hours as well as weekends and holidays through an oncall system. Dr. Lidia Vanini provides psychological assistance to onshore and offshore employees and their families. She provides patients with three levels of care: prevention, treatment and rehabilitation. Dr. Larissa Leite examines psychological evaluations on regular and return-to-work examinations (periodic ASOs and return-towork ASOs). She is also involved with the recruitment process, interviewing candidates and administering psychological evaluations to assist in identifying the best candidate for a position. BRAM Training Center Celebrates One Year in Operation Submitted by Mario Medina – The BRAM Training Center (BTC) began its operations in August 2013 with accreditation from The Nautical Institute of London to provide basic and advanced courses in dynamic positioning (DP). The BTC operates on the philosophy that continuous training of employees is the key to better and safer operations. When the BTC was first opened, basic and advanced courses in DP were taught by senior DP instructor Mario Medina and DP instructor-in-training Lorenzo Mattedi, who obtained his accreditation as a DP instructor from The Nautical Institute in July. Since then, the BTC has added two new courses: DP Refresher – This course is intended to refresh the skills of certified DPOs, reinforcing previously acquired knowledge and increasing operational skills. 4 Submitted by Ricardo Chagas – Supported by a fleet of approximately 70 vessels, the Edison Chouest Offshore companies (ECO) will further expand their area of operations in Brazil. Aiming at a strategic location near the Campos Basin, construction is underway on B-Port Brasil at Port Açu in São João da Barra, North Fluminense. The new facility will serve as a base for offshore logistics, as well as a shipyard for repairs. ECO signed a contract to lease an area of 2,746,949 square feet (255,200 square meters) for a period of 15 years to accommodate the shipyard. After that time, the lease can be renewed for periods of three or five years. The dock, measuring 1,444 feet (440 meters), will have a capacity of 12 berths. The dock can be increased by 722 feet (220 meters) within 12 months and by another 722 feet (220 meters) in less than 18 months, achieving double capacity and reaching 2,887 feet (880 meters) of dock with the capacity for 18 vessels and an area of up to 5,493,900 square feet (510,400 square meters). With capacity for 14 simultaneous dockings, the new B-Port Brasil is forecast to begin its activities the first half of 2015, creating 900 new jobs. Health, Safety and the Environment at B-Port Brasil B-Port Brasil will feature a: • Dedicated health, safety and environment (HSE) representative on site around the clock, seven days per week. •Safety Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP). •Fire brigade and facility. •Spills recovery and prevention facility, equipment and personnel. •First aid and medevac infrastructure. DP for Engineers – This course is designed for chief and first engineers on board BRAM vessels, allowing them to gain theoretical knowledge and practical experience that pertain to their responsibilities during dynamic positioning operations. Editors During the first year of operation, the BTC trained 56 students in basic DP, 60 students in advanced DP, 36 students in the DP refresher and 37 students in DP for engineers. Editorial Support: Michele Costa, April Strickland, Monica Falgout and Janet Jimenez The BTC is in the process of receiving accreditation from the Brazilian Maritime Authority to provide ECDIS (Electronic Chart Display and Information System) and BRM (Bridge Resources Management) courses. It is anticipated that these new courses will be offered beginning in December.
