ADMINISTRATION OF THE SACRAMENTS
Baptisms: On any available Sunday during the 11:00
AM (Italian), 12:30 PM (English) & 7:00 PM
(Portuguese) Masses. Please, contact the rectory at
least one month prior to desired date.
Confessions: Saturdays 5:00 to 5:45 PM, or during the
week by appointment.
Marriages: Please contact the rectory at least six
months prior to desired wedding date.
Sacrament of the Sick: If you are hospitalized or unable to come to Church for health reasons and would
like to be visited by a priest for Confession, Communion, or Anointing of the Sick, please call the rectory.
Religious Education Program (CCD): For children 1st
to 8th grades who are not attending Catholic School.
Classes are held on Sundays from September to May at
11:30 AM, with attendance to the 12:30 PM Family
Mass.
Confirmation: Teens will receive the Sacrament of
Confirmation on 8th grade. They will attend classes at
11:30 AM from September to December; and from
January to April classes will start at 11:00 AM in the
church hall, with attendance to the 12:30 PM Family
Mass.

HOLY HOUR OF ADORATION will be held every
Thursday from 6:15 to 7:15 PM during summer. We
should take advantage of our free time to have
private hours of adoration. The church will continue
to stay open from 6:30 AM to 6:30 PM. JESUSEUCHARIST waits for your visit.
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION - All children of our
parish, grades 1 to 8, who are not
enrolled in Catholic School
should be attending our
Religious Education Program.

Program. Classes will be held on
Sunday mornings at 11:30 AM
starting September 25.
RCIA—CATECHISM FOR ADULTS—This program
was created for those who are 18 years or older
and have not yet received the Sacraments of
Baptism, Communion or Confirmation. The classes
will be held once a week, in the evening. To enlist
in the program and for more information, please
contact the rectory’s office.

STEWARDSHIP OF TIME & TALENT
We are grateful to our faithful and understanding
parishioners who attended Masses in the church
hall last Sunday - during the heat wave - and
throughout this week, as we experience the
air conditioning system major breakdown.
We are specially grateful to the newlyweds
Nicholas Tortoriello & Letteria Lisciotto,
their families and friends, who celebrated their
wedding at St. Nicholas last Sunday, August 14.
Given the option to marry in another church, the
couple opted to stay. They believed that the
Sacrament of Marriage meant
more than the most perfect
temperature, and that a bit of
sacrifice could only make their
relationship even stronger.

21st SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
DISCIPLINE
It is no accident that the
words "disciple" and
"discipline" are nearly
identical.
Their
relationship in Christian
faith and life, however,
has fallen somewhat out
of favor in the past
generation, as certain
prescribed Church rules
and regulations have been reduced and relaxed. These
rules were often referred to as "disciplines." We are
mistaken, however, to think that it no longer takes
discipline to follow Christ. The Letter to the Hebrews
assures us of that today. Our discipline is more like that
of an athlete pursuing a victory or a personal best, or a
musician striving for a concert career or to master a
new piece of music. This discipline comes from desire,
not from regulations. It was the desire to do the will of
God that led Jesus on the path to his cross. It is that
same desire he encourages in us today: to strive to
enter through the narrow gate, to find ourselves in the
kingdom with a surprising assortment of people who
are there not because of mere observation of rules, but
out of a genuine desire to recline at the table of the

CONSERTOS NA IGREJA
RIPARAZIONI DELLA CHIESA
Stiamo affrontando 3 grandi progetti questa estate:
Temos 3 grandes projectos acontecendo neste verão:
PROGETTO # 1
a) GRADINI ENTRATA PRINCIPALE - Come avrete notato,
i gradini erano gravemente danneggiati dal ghiaccio degli inverni
passati. Erano diventati instabili. Li abbiamo fatti ricostruire
aggiungendo un gradino in più per renderli tutti più bassi dando un
più facile accesso alla chiesa. Le crepe sui lati sono state riparate.
b) GRADINI ENTRATA SALONE - Ripareremo anche i
gradini che portano al salone della parrocchia aggiungendo nuove
ringhiere su entrambi i lati ed un gradino in più per rendere più
comoda e meno ripida la scala.
c) PAVIMENTAZIONE IN PIETRA - Nuovi masselli saranno
installati davanti alla chiesa, uguali a quelli già esistenti di fronte
alla canonica e all'ufficio. Il costo del Progetto # 1 è di $20,000.
PROJETO # 1
a) DEGRAUS DA ESCADA - Como vocês perceberam, os
degraus da frente foram seriamente danificados pelo sal usado nos
invernos passados. Tornaram-se inseguros. Nós reconstruimos a
escada, acrescentando mais um degrau, tornando-os menores e
mais fáceis de acessar a igreja. As rachaduras nas laterais também
foram reparadas.
b) ESCADAS PARA O SALÃO - Vamos reparar as escadas
que levam ao salão da Igreja, acrescentando novas grades de
ambos os lados e degraus mais curtos também.
c) CALÇADA - Nova calçada será instalada na frente da
Igreja, do mesmo estilo da casa paroquial e escritório.
O custo do projeto #1 é de $20.000,00.
PROGETTO # 2
a) PROTEZIONE PARETE FRONTALE DELLA CHIESA Abbiamo sostenuto molti danni a causa delle infiltrazioni d’acqua
create dalle crepe sul muro frontale dovute a forti venti e
all'invecchiamento dei mattoni. Ripareremo quindi sia l'esterno che
l'interno della parete anteriore della chiesa, rimuoveremo le
vecchie pareti di cartongesso e le sostituiremo con nuovi pannelli,
installando materiale isolante sia nella cantoria che nel vestibolo.
b) MOQUETTE - Sostituiremo la moquette in cantoria. Il
costo del Progetto # 2 è di $15,000. La Fondazione Caritatevole
dei Cavalieri di Colombo ha generosamente già donato $7,500 per
aiutarci con queste costose riparazioni e si è impegnata a donare
altri $7,500 in autunno, pagando in tal modo il costo totale della
ricostruzione. Rendiamo grazie ai Cavalieri di Colombo.
PROJETO # 2
a) REFORMA NAS PAREDES DA IGREJA - Temos lidado
com muitas infiltrações causas por fissuras na parede causada por
ventos fortes e envelhecimento dos tijolos. Vamos selar o exterior
e o interior da parede e remover o velho e colocar novo “sheet
rock” na parede do coral e do vestiário.
b) CARPETE - Iremos colocar carpete novo no coral.
O custo deste projeto # 2 é de $15.000,00. O Fundo de
Caridade dos Cavalheiros de Colombo já doou $7.500,00 para ajudar com estes custos, e prometeu doar os outros $7.500,00 no
outono; assim, cobrindo os custos da reforma da parede. Muito
obrigado aos Cavalheiros de Colombo.
PROGETTO # 3
RIPARAZIONE SISTEMA DI CLIMATIZZAZIONE - Il guasto
notevole del nostro sistema è una spesa imprevista. Stiamo
cercando di riparalo, ma ha sicuramente bisogno di essere
sostituito come gli esperti stessi ci hanno consigliato. Il
condizionatore ha oltre 40 anni, ed è superato da tempo; è quindi
molto costoso trovare e sostituitre i pezzi che sono in pessime
condizioni. Il costo per risolvere temporaneamente questo
problema, in modo da poter affrontare l’utimo caldo estivo è di
circa $19,900. Stiamo ricevendo proposte di appalto per la
sostituzione dell'intero sistema.
Tutti insieme, questi progetti avranno un costo di $54.900.
Noi tutti comprendiamo che la manutenzione e le riparazioni di un
vecchio edificio sono costose. Ma se vogliamo preservare la nostra
bella chiesa per i nostri figli e nipoti, abbiamo bisogno di affrontare
questi lavori adesso.
Abbiamo già ricevuto donazioni per questi progetti da
alcuni dei nostri parrocchiani: i coniugi Silvio e Carmela Barone, il
signor Arthur Mazzarella, i coniugi Antonio e Elizabeth Gomes, la
signora Ana De Leon, la signora Loretta Casbar, la signora Ann
Lozina, la signora Carmela Molnar, i coniugi King e Wendy Tam, la
signora Eileen Murphy e i coniugi Anthony e Liliana Gagliostro. Le
loro generose donazioni ammontano all'importo di $1,965.
Tutti i nostri parrocchiani sono stati sempre puntuali nelle
loro offerte settimanali e donazioni. Abbiamo bisogno del vostro
aiuto ancora di più questa volta - le vostre donazioni aiuteranno la
Chiesa di San Nicola a rimanere solida, forte, funzionante, pronta
ad essere di sostegno per molti anni a venire, abbracciando le

CONSERTO DO SISTEMA DE AR CONDICIONADO - O
grande colapso do nosso sistema é uma despesa inesperada. Vamos consertar a máquina, mas certamente precisará ser substituída. Esta máquina foi instalada em 1959, está desatualizada e
em péssimas condições. O custo para consertá-la temporariamente, para que possamos passar por este verão severo, é de
$19,900.00. Estamos recebendo propostas sobre o custo da substituição de toda a unidade.
Estes projectos nos custarão $54,900.00 — Todos nós
entendemos que reparos e manutenção de prédios antigo são
caros. Mas se queremos preservar nossa bela igreja para os nossos
filhos e netos, precisamos trabalhar agora.

CHURCH REPAIRS
We have 3 major projects happening on this summer:
PROJECT #1
a) FRONT STEPS — As you noticed, the front steps were
badly damaged by ice melting during the past winters. They became
unsafe. We reconstructed it and added an extra step, making them
lower and easier to access the church. Cracks on the sides were also
repaired.
b) CHURCH HALL STEPS — We will repair the steps that lead to the church hall, adding new railings on
both sides and shorter and extra step as well;
c) PAVERS — New pavers will be installed in front of the church, same as it is in front of the rectory and
office. The cost of this project #1 is $20,000.00.
PROJECT #2
a) RESEAL OF CHURCH FRONT WALL— We have been dealing with a lot of infiltration through cracks
on the front wall caused by strong winds and aging of brinks. We will reseal the outside and inside of the front wall
of the church, remove old and place new sheet rock and insulation on the choir loft and vestibule wall.
b) CARPET—We will replace the carpet in the choir loft.
The cost of this project #2 is $15,000.00. The Knights of Columbus Charitable Fund has generously given
us already $7,500.00 to help with these expensive repairs and pledged to give another $7,500 in the fall. Thereby
paying off the cost of the wall reconstruction. Great thanks to Knights Of Columbus.
PROJECT #3
AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM REPAIR — The major breakdown of our system is an unexpected expense. We are working on repairing the unit, but it surely needs to be replaced as the experts have advised us. This
machine is over 40 year old, it is outdated; it is very expensive to find the parts that are in very bad conditions. The
cost to temporarily fix it, so we can go through this rough summer, is $19,900.00. We are receiving proposals on
the cost of the replacing the entire unit.
All together, these projects will cost us $54.900.00 — We all understand repairs and maintenance of an old building are
costly. But if we want to preserve our beautiful church for our children and grandchildren, we need to work on it now.
We have already received donations towards these projects from some of our parishioners: — Mr. & Mrs. Silvio &
Carmela Barone, Mr. Arthur Mazzarella, Mr. & Mrs. Antonio & Elizabeth Gomes, Mrs. Ana De Leon, Mrs. Loretta
Casbar, Mrs. Ann Lozina, Mrs. Carmela Molnar, and Mr. & Mrs. King & Wendy Tam, Mrs. Eileen Murphy, Mr. &
Mrs. Anton & Julia Picinich, and Mr. & Mrs. Anthony & Liliana Gagliostro. Their generous donations summoned the
amount of $2,165.00.
You have been always faithful to your weekly offering and donations. We will need you to stretch a bit more this
time — your donations will help St. Nicholas Church to remain solid, strong, functioning well, prepared to survive
many more years to come, embracing our families and welcoming new members to our parish. That is God’s house
and we are all called to be stewards of it.
