RAÍZES é uma exposição coletiva nas
áreas de fotografia, desenho, têxtil, performance e instalação que junta cinco jovens artistas; Anastasia Fugger, Carolina
Pimenta, David Gonçalves, Janis Dellarte
e Rezm Orah.
RAÍZES, is a group exhibition exploring
the fields of photography, drawing, textile, performance & installation which
brings together five young artists;
Anastasia Fugger, Carolina Pimenta,
David Gonçalves, Janis Dellarte e Rezm

Um princípio. Uma base. O que fortalece.
Uma paisagem escondida. Um imaginário. O que não se vê. Uma essência.
O individual a trabalhar em conjunto para
o mesmo fim; a união. O crescimento.
Vida.
A beginning. A base. Strength. A hidden
landscape. An imaginary. What is unseen. An essence.
Aqui, num espaço nobre duma cidade
renascida, apresenta-se uma colectiva de cinco jovens artistas em início de
carreira, que nos mostram trabalhos
nas áreas de fotografia, desenho, têxtil
e instalação. Trata-se de uma abertura
para dentro de imaginários singulares
que juntos, produzem uma única paisagem fluída e livre. Paisagem essa que
no próximo mês, ganhará volume e forma através de colaborações progressivas, artistas convidados e eventos mais a
decorrer no espaço.
Here, in Palácio das Artes, this noble
venue in a city reborn, we present a collaborative show consisting of five artists,
all in the early years of their careers, and
exhibiting works of photography, drawing, textile and performance.
O trabalho de todos, apesar de individual e visualmente diferente, desenvolve-se
em paralelo e (tal como as raízes de uma
árvore), é em paralelo e em conjunto que
se apresenta, num crescimento colectivo e dinâmico, explorando ao máximo a
intimidade entre os artistas, seu trabalho
e o público.
The work exhibited, although individual and visually different, has evolved
side by side, and (just like the roots of
a tree), it’s together and in parallel that
it is presented, in a collective and dynamic growth that explores the intimacy
between the artists, their work and the
audience.

O [gone] Project traz consigo um conjunto de vários projectos fotográficos da experiência de viagem de Anastasia Fugger e Carolina Pimenta. Tendo como ponto
de partida uma antiga amizade e uma paixão partilhada por viagem e fotografia, o
[gone] Project, de Anastasia e Carolina, oferece um novo caminho na exploração
de um local através de uma colaboração única entre duas lentes.
The [gone] project brings together a range of photographic projects that respond
to the in situ experience of Anastasia Fugger and Carolina Pimenta. Taking as the
starting point an old friendship and a shared passion for travel and photography,
Anastasia Fugger and Carolina Pimenta’s [gone] MEXICO project offers a distinct
way of exploring a location through a unique collaboration of two lenses.
Depois de uma extensa viagem pelo México, as duas fotógrafas capturaram imagens arrebatadoras com um perspicaz sentido de humor e de percepção. Fundindo os dois olhares, no mesmo local, ao mesmo tempo, resultou num sublime
trabalho passível de se dividir entre fotografia de arte e viagem. As imagens ostentam faces distintas da cultura mexicana e são dispostas em pares, partilhando
uma reflexão comum da experiência.
After an extended trip roaming through Mexico, the two photographers captured
breathtaking images with an acute sense of perception and humor. Fusing both
photographic eyes in the same place at the same time results in a rich and compelling group of work, blurring the line between travel photography and fine art.
O [gone] MEXICO, a primeira série do [gone] Project, é o resultado de um mês
de viagem de Yucatan até à região de Oaxaca, onde duas fotógrafas exploram
aspectos de complexidade na dinâmica colaborativa. Carácter explorado no final
dos anos 70, quando artistas como Fischli e Weiss dedicaram exclusivamente as
suas carreiras artísticas a explorar os diferentes trâmites da colaboração. Fugger
e Pimenta exploram também em conjunto o encontro íntimo, cara-a-cara, das
suas lentes com o estereótipo semiótico da cultura tradicional mexicana e é com
isso que trazem o seu lado pessoal para o projecto. Questionando a sua relação,
reconhecendo as suas diferenças e permitindo um diálogo visual fluido entre ambas.
Esta série propõe uma reflexão da natureza volátil das fronteiras da cultura, numa
caminhada por solo desconhecido com intensidade emocional e interesse na espiritualidade. A natureza dos capítulos futuros deste projecto concentra-se em
estabelecer bases para partir à descoberta e contar micro-narrativas através de
imagens. O desejo de criar uma história como ponto de começo para um estilo reconhecível que combine uma identidade única, humor e honestidade nas
emoções, propositadamente afastadas do formato de conteúdo documentário.
[gone] MEXICO the first series of the [gone] project, is the result of a month of travelling from the Yucatan region to Oaxaca, where the two photographers explore
the complex and dynamic aspects of collaborating, which in photography dates
back to the late 1970s, when artists such as Fischli and Weiss dedicated their
artistic careers to discovering the different aspects of collaboration.
The series offers a reflection of the volatile nature of borders and cultures while
providing a seamless journey through unknown grounds with emotional intensity
and an awe to spirituality. The fragmentary nature of the series, its concentration
into micro-narratives, lays the foundations for Fugger and Pimenta’s future practice, both driven by a desire to tell a story in every picture they take, they managed
to successfully create a recognizable style, which combines identity, humor and
emotional honesty through their own deliberate removal from all potential documentary content. The images showing distinct scenes of Mexican culture, are
elegantly displayed in duos/couples, sharing a common reflection of experience.

Janis Dellarte estudou Belas Artes em
Madrid onde morou nove anos. Concluiu
a sua Licenciatura e mestrado em Design Têxtil no Royal College of Art. Neste
momento vive e trabalha em Lisboa.
Desde sempre, Janis se inspira pelo feito
a mão, o pormenor, o imperfeito, a passagem de conhecimento de geração em
geração, a tradição. As agulhas de tricot
e crochet são a ferramenta indispensável
no seu dia-a-dia.
Duma grande pesquisa em têxteis tradicionais tanto em Portugal como em
países como o México e o Nepal, nascem uma seleção de peças multifuncionais, que refletem a paixão da artista
pelo artesanato e as tradições.
Das mãos de Janis Dellarte brotam raízes de cordão de tricot.
Em louvor ao processo têxtil e ao seu
tempo de execução,
estas Raízes crescem organicamente
durante todo um mês conectando o espaço e artistas que o preenchem.
Nesta exposição, como em anteriores,
existe uma colaboração entre a performance de Rezm Orah e as peças de
Janis.
Janis vive e trabalha em Lisboa.
Janis Dellarte studied Fine Arts in Madrid
where she lived nine years. During seven, she studied in London where she did
a BA in Textile and Surface Design and
completed an MA in Knitted Textiles at
the Royal College of Art. Janis currently
lives and works in Lisbon.
Inspired by the handmade, the detail,
imperfection, the passage of knowledge
from generation to generation, Tradition.
Knit and Crochet hooks have become
the essential tool in her daily life.
A selection of multifunctional pieces,
which reflect the artist’s passion for traditional crafts are exhibited at the Pálacio
das Artes. Pieces born of an extended
research in traditional textile techniques,
be it in Portugal or countries such as
Mexico and Nepal,
From Janis Dellarte’s hands grow knitted
cords. In honour of the textile process
and the amount of time it takes to create, these roots will grow organically for
a month connecting the space and the
artists.
Janis Dellarte and Rezm Orah will collaborate once again throughout the duration of the show.

Rezm estudou na American Academy of
Dramatic Arts em Nova Iorque, e desde
então tem continuado sua pesquisa em
performance por várias vertentes. Desde
estudos em técnicas de teatro, bouffon,
canto, dança, como em performances
imersivas, meditacionais, e de improviso
com músicos e performers.
Além de experiências teatrais variadas,
se apresentou com Spartacus Chetwind
no New Museum de Nova Iorque, fez
filmes com o artista Marc Lafia e trabalhou em experiências imersivas como
Walking de Robert Wilson e Surrender
de Josh Fox.
Rezm studied at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York, and
since then has continued his research
in performance through various channels. From distinct theatrical traditions to
bouffon, Suzuki, singing, dance and immersive performances with meditation,
musicians and other dancers or improvisors.
Has also performed with Spartacus
Chetwind at the New Museum in New
York, made films with artist Marc Lafia
and worked at immersive pieces such as
Robert Wilson’s Walking and Josh Fox’s
Surrender.
Concluiu no início deste ano a primeira
etapa do Full Moon Project, o Cathartes
Aura Tour, que contou com a colaboração de todos os artistas presentes em
RAÍZES, em cidades distintas ao redor
do Mundo.
At the beginning of the year Rezm concluded the Cathartes Aura, the first
cycle of the Full Moon Project that has
been privileged with the collaboration of
all the artists present at RAÍZES.
Em RAÍZES, Rezm Orah ocupará o
Palácio com trabalhos de vídeo, instalação e performance, e uma colaboração de um mês com Janis Dellarte,
suas ‘raízes’ e criações.
In RÁIZES, Rezm Orah will showcase
video, installation and performance
works, continuing a collaboration with
Janis Dellarte, her ‘roots’, and pieces for
the duration of the show.

David Gonçalves nasceu em 1987 no
Porto.
David Gonçalves was born in 1987 in
Porto.
Nesta mesma cidade em 2009 licenciou-se em Artes Digitais & Multimedia
na ESAD. Foi então que percebeu o seu
futuro passaria por ter algum tipo de
formação na área das artes plásticas.
Desde novo o interesse em mexer com
materiais era evidente.
Here in 2009 he finished a BA Hons
in Digital Arts & Multimedia at ESAD
school. At this time he understands that
in his near future he would have to get
involved in the fine arts area. There was
this interest in working with the materials
from an early age.
Entrou para o ARCO em Lisboa onde
frequentou e terminou em 2013 o curso
de Artes Plásticas.
He joined ARCO in Lisbon where he
completed the Fine Arts course in 2013
Currently he is living and working in Lisbon.
Atualmente vive e trabalha em Lisboa.
São trabalhos que antecedem uma viagem.
Levam-nos a perceber as possibilidades
de exploração de espaços, assim como
de um olhar para dentro, para os nossos espaços interiores. Uma espécie de
indicação para algo que viria a acontecer. O que já está a acontecer. Há tantos
caminhos a percorrer com o movimento
das mãos e do corpo presente.
O imaginário como instrumento do ir, ferramenta ilimitada da vontade.
These are works preceding a trip.
They help us understand the possibilities
of exploring spaces, as well as to look
within, onto our interior spaces. A kind
of appointment to what would soon happen. What is already happening. There
are many ways to cover the space with
the movement of the hands and of the
present body.
Imagination as an instrument of going,
unlimited tool of will.
