¡Bienvenidos a la Clase de Español!
WHO IS YOUR SPANISH TEACHER?
My name is Miss Oliveira and I am very excited to be your new Spanish Language
teacher! I am here to make Spanish easier for your child. Please ask me for help! I
am available during lunch and after school to provide assistance to students. This
should be arranged beforehand with Miss Oliveira. Parents, please feel free to call
me at Vaughn (333-5160) or email me ([email protected]). I am available from 7:15am until 2:40pm Monday through Friday.
If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions concerning your child’s progress, please let me know. I am happy to arrange a time to talk.
WHAT IS EXPETED OF THE STUDENT?
Students are expected to follow the classroom rules and Vaughn Middle School rules
at all times and to come to class prepared each day.
Classroom Rules
1.
We act and talk respectfully with each other.
2.
Keep your hands, feet and objects to yourself.
3.
Come to class on time and be prepared.
4.
Participate and ask questions by raising your hand. Allow others to learn.
5.
Learn one new objective each day.
6.
Listen and ask questions. If you don’t speak up, I don’t know that you don’t
understand.
7.
Keep a positive attitude and an open mind and try your best. Feel good about
what you are learning and where you are going!
Materials in the Spanish Classroom

Students are expected to come prepared to class each day with their own pencil
and their own notebook paper.

Spanish binders will be provided to each students with 7 dividers which will
remain in the classroom at all times. These binders must be kept organized
and up to date by the student at all times. There will be frequent binder checks
for grades throughout the year.

Students will be provided with “Spanish Homework Folders” in which they may
take home any papers or notes they need for the night’s homework assignment.
Homework folders must be brought to Spanish class daily and papers returned
to their Spanish binders in the classroom.
WELCOME
Congratulations on being
enrolled in a World Language! As Vaughn is an
International Baccalaureate Candidate School, all
students are required to
take a world language. I
am looking forward to
having you in my classroom this year and sharing in this new experience
with you! It will be a fun
year full of lots of growth
and excitement!
I look forward to helping
you achieve your goals
this year!
Warmly,
Miss Oliveira
ABSENCES
I know there are days when
you are sick and can’t make
it to class. Please know that
students with excused absences are allowed to make
up their work for full credit.
Late work turned in for unexcused absences will result
in the letter grade for the
work being dropped 20% per
day it is late.
It is a good idea to get the
phone numbers of a couple
of friends in class so you can
get the work you’ve missed.
You are responsible for getting your make-up work and
turning it in on time. Tests
and special in-class assignments are to be made up
during lunch or after school
by appointment only.

GRADING
Expectations for you are very high in the World Language Department.
Here are some of the basics for your grade evaluation:
1.
Expect homework almost every night. Homework will cover the
content objectives from the day’s class. It should take 10-15
minutes max. Assignments will be checked daily. Homework is
due at the start of each class period. No late work is accepted
(see “Absences” column for exceptions). Not completing your
homework will affect your Work Ethic grade as well as affect your
ability to perform well on assessments for your Overall Grade.
2. Your Spanish binder (kept in class) will be graded for completeness
and neatness.
3. Quizzes and assessments will be given regularly. By studying vocabulary 10 minutes every night, you will feel confident in your
Spanish comprehension and feel ready for your assessments.
4. Individual and group projects are extremely important to apply
previously learned concepts and to current thematic units. These
projects are worked on during class hours. Whatever does not get
finished in class goes home for homework.
5.
Participation is graded and reflected in your performance/behavior
grade. Students get performance or behavior grades based on coming to class prepared (pen/pencil, homework folder, lined paper),
coming to class on time, obeying the classroom and school rules,
and behaving respectfully in class. Every time these expectations
are not met, behavior grades will be lowered 1/2 grade.
