The film that better synthesize
the first period of the profuse and
controversial work by Edgar Pera is A
Janela (Maryalva Mix). “Iconoclast”
for some, “cine­‑poet­‑provocator” for
others, Pêra directs films compulsively
since A Cidade de Cassiano, without
renouncing the reflection about
the reality of his country, either on
documentary or on fiction. He has
had retrospectives about his work in
several European cities. In 2006, he
won the Pasolini Award for his career,
together with Alejandro Jodorowsky,
Agnes B. and Fernando Arrabal,
in Paris.

Crime Blue Abyss Physical Remorse is inspired by the life and works of Amadeo
de Souza­‑Cardoso. This controversial 20th century painter defied the world avant­
‑garde of his time: “I don’t follow schools. I am an impressionist, cubist, futurist,
abstractionist. A melting pot. The real tradition is not to try and relive the past
– which is impossible to achieve – but rather something that sets up a follow­
alike.” The film follows Amadeo’s motto. It crosses pictorial fiction – suggested by
the emblematic picture “The Procession”, painted in Paris in 1913 – with Portuguese
contemporary reality.
Crime Abismo Azul Remorso Físico inspira­‑se na vida e obra de Amadeo de Souza­
‑Cardozo. Este polémico pintor do século XX desafiou a vanguarda mundial do seu
tempo: “Não sigo escolas. Sou impressionista, cubista, futurista, abstraccionista.
Um pouco de tudo. A verdadeira tradição não é tentar reviver o passado– que é
impossível fazer –mas antes algo que estabelece continuidade, como os pais com os
filhos. Um filho nunca é igual ao pai.” O filme segue o mote de Amadeo. Cruza ficção
pictórica, sugerida pelo emblemático quadro “A Procissão”, pintado em Paris em 1913,
com a realidade contemporânea portuguesa.
