Inspiring a love for lifelong learning
Welcome to the latest edition of the Ashford Park Primary School Newsletter. No. 242
Dear All,
We wish you a lovely Easter, hopefully filled with plenty of Spring sunshine!
Please be reminded that the children return on Monday 13th April, for the start
of the ever busy summer term.
Dinosaur Bone discovery!
The Ashford Park community, couldn’t quite believe their eyes, when a giant
dinosaur bone was “discovered” during the solar eclipse on Friday 20th March.
The archaeologist on site, confirmed that the bone could be part of a leg bone
from a long extinct Tyrannosaurus Rex! The discovery prompted some superb
writing, history, geography, mathematics, speaking and listening activities and
creative artwork ; )
Spelthorne in Bloom Competition winner – CONGRATULATIONS ERIN
Beanstalk reading volunteers
We are extremely grateful to two ladies who work for the Beanstalk reading
charity on a voluntary basis and who have recently started working twice weekly,
with some wonderful year 2 children, to further develop their reading skills and
confidence.
Working in Partnership to Support School Improvement throughout the summer
term 2015.
As Ashford Park is a Surrey school, during these periods of educational change
and under the Surrey Principles of Partnership Working, it is expected that all
schools will be responsible for their own improvement and will support other
schools to improve, to deliver better outcomes for all children and young people.
Following the retirement of Mrs Maggie Roberton, the Head teacher of
Riverbridge Primary School; Ashford Park has been asked to support this school
initially throughout this summer term. Governors have agreed that Mrs Sarah
Tarrant will be acting as Consultant Head teacher of Riverbridge, working in
close partnership with Mrs Mary Ellen McCarthy, the Executive Principal of both
Saxon and Echelford Primary Schools. Mrs Tarrant will be supporting Riverbridge
for approximately two and a half days per week and Mrs Russell, will be the
Acting Head teacher of Ashford Park during these days. Governors anticipate
that there will be no impact on the teaching provision for children at our school,
not least, due to the fact that the School Leadership Team already have two
colleagues qualified to be Head teachers, being Mrs Russell and Mrs Makepeace.
Easter celebration
We send our thanks to our friends at the Salvation Army, Avril from FACT who
led our celebration and to our wonderful walking volunteers for keeping our
children safe, as the whole school celebrated Easter together at the Salvation
Army.
