The FONLAD Festival has as key objectives to promote the creation and dissemination of digital arts,
such as photography, digital painting, animation and video and web art projects.
From the 200 proposals received were selected 61. Among these projects 9 are in photography / digital
painting, 42 in animation and video, 10 in web art .
Linked to established protocols with other festivals and in other Fonlad activities, a total of 342 artists
participated in the festival.
Highlight for the participation of Francesca Fini (It), Dimitrios Bampilis & Eleni Arapostathi (Gr),
Vijayaraghavan (In), Mario Gutiérrez Cru (Es) & Lynn Vargas (CR), Collective Vjzaria (Vinicius Luz, Edmosh
and Tarsila Shubert) (Br).
In order to promote the reflection on the digital creation, a workshop of Video Mapping was carried out
by Vinicius Luz, in partnership with the TdC Cooperative and Alliance Française of Coimbra. Were also
held screenings in Miden Festival (Kalamata, Greece), Proyector (Madrid, Spain) and an exhibition in
Serpa (Portugal).
In partnership with the Alliance Française de Coimbra several video art shows and video installations
were presented in partnership with international festivals.
In addition to the international screenings were also presented other special exhibitions in collaboration
with international partners. Among them stands out the show “Nietzsche Was a Man“ , promoted by the
festival Manipulated Image, USA, and curated by Alysse Stepanion (USA), and Neda Darzi (Iran) which
showed a sui generis shows focused on video art from Iran wemen.
Another important exhibition was the presentation of the project “100 x 100 = 900 - One Hundred
Artists to tell the Century“ organized by Magmart Festival and curated by Enrico Tomaselli. The show
were presented in the form of installation in Gallery Santa Clara, with the participation of 100 artists.
In the second edition, has taken place the continuation of the project of artist residencies, the
Curator‘s Home Residency, which was attended by ten artists:

O Festival Fonlad tem como objectivos essenciais a promoção da criação e divulgação de projectos
digitais ao nível da fotografia, pintura digital, vídeo e animação e web arte.
Das cerca de 200 propostas foram seleccionadas 61. Entre os referidos projectos contam-se 9 em
fotografia / pintura digital, 42 em animação e vídeo, 10 em web arte.
Para além dos artistas que directamente “concorreram ao festival”, participaram mais 170 artistas
ligados a protocolos estabelecidos com outros festivais e mais 86 ligados a actividades do festival,
num total de 342 artistas.
Destaque ainda para a participação directa no festival de Francesca Fini (It), Dimitrios Bampilis & Eleni
Arapostathi (Gr), Vijayaraghavan (In), Mario Gutiérrez Cru (Es) & Lynn Vargas (CR), Colectivo Vjzaria
(Vinicius Luz, Edmosh, Tarsila Shubert) (Br).
Com o objectivo promover a reflexão em torno da criação digital, foi realizado um workshop de
Vídeo Mapping por Vinicius Luz, numa parceria com a Cooperativa Teatro dos Castelos e a Alliance
Française de Coimbra. Foram ainda realizadas mostras no Festival Miden (Kalamata-Grécia), no
Proyector (Madrid-Espanha) e uma exposição em Serpa (Portugal).
Em parceria com a Alliance Française de Coimbra foram apresentadas várias mostras de vídeo arte e
projectos de vídeo instalação, em parceria com vários festivais internacionais. Nos quatro dias em que
se realizaram as mostras participaram 70 artistas, cujos trabalhos foram apreciados por cerca de 200
pessoas.
Para além das mostras internacionais, foram ainda apresentadas outras mostras especiais, em colaboração
com parceiros internacionais. Entre elas destaca-se a mostra “Nietzche Was a Man”, promovida pelo
festival Manipulated Image, dos Estados Unidos, e comissariada por Alysse Stepanion (USA) e Neda
Darzi (Irão) que apresentou uma mostra sui generis centrada na vídeo arte feminina proveniente do Irão.
Outra mostra importante foi a apresentação do projecto “100 x 100 = 900 – One Hundred Artists to tell
a Century”, promovida pelo festival Magmart e comissariada por Enrico Tomaselli. A mostra apresentada
sob a forma de instalação na Galeria Santa Clara, contou com a participação de 100 artistas.
Francesca Fini ( It) , which developed in Coimbra, between 12 and 28 April, the performance
“Golden Age”, especially chosen for the opening of the festival. During the residency,
Francesca Fini also presented his work at ESAD - School of Arts and Design of Caldas da
Rainha, on April 18 and at the University of Coimbra, on April 24. She also participated with the
performance “Untitled Red“ on “Line Up Action 2013 - Extension # 01”, the International Performance Festival of Coimbra, which took place in EAMP - Space for Arts, Media and Performance,
on April 21.
Dimitrios Bampilis (Gr) made specifically for the outside space of the EAMP the increased reality
installation project “ Displacements “ with Eleni Arapostati (Gr).

Federico Nogales (Esp) presented the performance “Essere Aria“ at EAMP on May
8, and the video installation “Pura Sangre“ in the frame of the “5 Video
Installations“ project, on May 15.
Vijayaraghavan (India) held an intervention project in the entire space of EAMP, on 24 May,
which featured three video installations, 2 videos and several drawings and photographs.
Finally Vinicius Luz, between 1 and June 15, led a workshop on Video Mapping and coordinated
(with the Colectivo Vjzaria - Vinicius Luz, Edmosh and Tarsila Shubert), the presentation of the
final work on the Convento dos Anjos in Montemor-o-Velho.
One of the areas of intervention of the festival lies in the dialogue sui generis that video and
video art in particular allows us to establish with its surroundings , creating visual and sensory
environments.
In this sense, since almost from the begining, but with particular emphasis from 2010, the
video component of the installation became a strong component of the festival, along with
Video Mapping.
Em segunda edição deu-se continuidade ao projecto de residências artísticas, a Curator’s Home
Residency (Residências em Casa do Comissário), na qual participaram dez artistas:
Francesca Fini (It), que desenvolveu em Coimbra, entre 12 e 28 de Abril, a performance “Golden Age”,
tendo a mesma sido escolhida especialmente para o momento de inauguração do festival. Durante a
residência, Francesca Fini apresentou ainda o seu trabalho na ESAD – Escola Superior de Arte e Design
das Caldas da Rainha, em 18 de Abril e na Universidade de Coimbra, em 24 Abril. Participou ainda com
a performance “Red Untitled” no Line Up Action 2013 – Extension #01, que teve lugar no EAMP – Espaço
de Artes, Multimédia e Performance, em 21 Abril.
Dimitrios Bampilis (Gr) realizou especificamente para o espaço exterior do EAMP o projecto de realidade
aumentada “Displacements” com Eleni Arapostati (Gr).
Mário Gutiérrez Cru (Es) por seu lado, realizou em residência a performance “Essere Aria”, com Lynn Vargas (Costa Rica) e Federico Nogales (Esp) a 8 Maio no EAMP e a vídeo instalação “Pura Sangre” integrada
no projecto “5 Vídeo Instalações” a 15 de Maio.
Vijayaraghavan (India) realizou uma instalação integrada no projecto “5 Vídeo Instalações” e um projecto
de intervenção em todo o espaço do EAMP, a 24 Maio, que contou com 3 vídeo instalações, 2 vídeos e
vários desenhos e fotografias.
Finalmente Vinicius Luz, entre 1 e 15 de Junho, orientou um workshop de Vídeo Mapping e coordenou
(com o Colectivo Vjzaria – Vinicius Luz, Edmosh e Tarsila Shubert, os dois útimos vindos especialmente
do Dubai), a apresentação do trabalho final no Convento dos Anjos em Montemor-o-Velho.
Uma das áreas centrais de intervenção do Festival reside no diálogo sui generis que o vídeo e em particular
a vídeo arte permite estabelecer com o espaço envolvente, na criação de ambientes visuais e sensitivos.
Neste sentido, desde praticamente a sua criação, mas com especial destaque a partir de 2010, a componente
da vídeo instalação passou a ser uma componente forte do festival, recentemente a par com o
videomapping.
Paralelamente com as Mostras Internacionais de Vídeo Arte, passaram igualmente a ser apresentados
projectos de vídeo instalação, especialmente pensadas para o espaço no qual as mostras se realizam.
No corrente ano, foram realizadas 6 projectos de vídeo instalação em paralelo com as mostras, ao qual
se associam as do projecto “5 vídeo instalações” no Espaço de Artes Multimédia e Performance e no
Quarteirão das Artes.
