Media advisory //Rio 2016 Olympic Torch Relay moves on to the Minas Gerais ‘diamond circuit’ TheOlympic Flame will pass through the towns of Bocaiuva, Couto de Magalhaes deMinas, Diamantina and Curvelo On day10 of the Rio 2016 Olympic Torch Relay, the Olympic Flame will pass through thetowns of Bocaiuva, Couto de Magalhaes de Minas and Diamantina in the historicdiamond mining region of Minas Gerais. The flame will end the day in Curvelo, aftera journey of 400 km and the participation of over 120 torchbearers. . Couto de Magalhaes is on the tourst diamond circuit. The OlympicTorch will stop at the Church of Nossa Senhora da Conceição (Our Lady of the Conception). . Diamantinais a historic town, well-known for its architecture and cultural heritageand as an area of outstanding natural beauty. The municipality has itsorigins mainly in gold and diamond mining. The Rio 2016 Olympic Torch willpass by the Sentinela and Cristais waterfalls, with their crystallinenatural swimming pools. The Flame will then move on to the Cathedral. Oneof the most eagerly awaited moments is the Vesperata Music Festival, whichwill feature musicians playing on all the balconies of the historicbuildings. . In Curvelo, the relay will start at the SãoGeraldo Basilica, where the Padre Sergio Ribeiro band will play. Along theroute, various cultural attractions include seresta bands Zé de Betaand Encontro com a Saudade playing traditional serenades, and the Academia Trans-forma dance troupe. Atthe bandstand in Benedito Vieira Reis Square, thecapoeira martial arts group Filhos de Dandara will be showing off their skills. In the AntônioErnesto de Salvo Exhibitions Park, amazons and horsemen of the traditionalCavalgada Folha de Curvelo willpay tribute to the Olympic Flame. . Considered a sports amenity, Avenida Integração will be the settingfor slacklining, open-air gymnastics, footvolley, skate-boarding, roller-skating,cycling and other disciplines. The Olympic Pyre will be lit in Central doBrasil Square, with music from Superbanda de Curvelo, formed by nine local musicians. They have combinedthe concepts of Olympic Spirit with the history of Curvelo to write a songentitled “Tema de Curvelo para atocha Olímpica” (Curvelo’s Theme for the Olympic Torch) which is beingaired on all the local radio stations. Soraya was invited by the Coca-Colasponsorship to carry the Olympic Torch in her home town. . Bianca Lins (or Bernardo Rosa) is a transsexual Portuguese languageteacher and will represent the LGBTcommunity in the Olympic Torch Relay through the streets of Curvelo. Biancawas invited by the Nissan sponsorship to run with the Torch. . Claudete Maria de Souza Silva is amarathon runner born in Curvelo, and her career spans over 20 years. Shehas taken part in various local and national competitions and wasnominated by the Bradesco sponsorship to carry the Olympic Torch. . Hilma Caldeira is a former volleyball playerand began her career in her native town, Diamantina. In 1989, she playedfor the Brazilian team that won the Juvenile World Championship in Peru. Itwas the first of a number of titles won with Brazilian and European clubs,and playing in the national women’s volleyball team. Hilma will run withthe Olympic Torch in Diamantina. . Carlito Rodrigues, better known as Mestre Andorinha (Master Swallow), foundedthe Filhos de Dandara Cultural Association which locally disseminates theart of capoeira as an expressionof Brazilian culture. Master Swallow will run with the Olympic Torch inCurvelo. . Giovane Fonseca began working when he was a child and hasbeen a shoeshine boy, luggage porter, carwash attendant, cleaner, fruitand veg. vendor and shop assistant. At 17, hediscovered street running, and has already represented Curvelo inmarathons and various competitions throughout Brazil, including SaoPaulo’s São Silvestre marathon. Terms of Use Rights Holding Broadcasters (RHBs): RHBs may broadcast the Olympic torch relay in Brazil, on a nonexclusive basis, in accordance with the terms of their respective media rights agreement with the IOC. Non-Rights Holding Broadcasters (Non-RHBs): Non-RHBs may broadcast the Olympic torch relay in Brazil (with the exclusion of the opening and closing ceremonies), on a non-exclusive basis, for a maximum of 24 hours after the event. Any such broadcast must be positioned as news only and not to create, or be positioned as, Olympic torch relay focused programming. No commercial/promotional association is permitted with the coverage of the Olympic torch relay. In particular, broadcast of the Olympic torch relay may not (i) be sponsored or otherwise be associated in any way to give the impression that Non-RHBs and/or any unauthorized entities and/or products are linked to or associated to the Olympic torch relay, the Olympic Games, the IOC and/or the Olympic Movement and (ii) imply, suggest or represent Non-RHBs as being official rights holding broadcasters and/or partners of the Olympic torch relay, the Olympic Games, the IOC and/or the Olympic Movement. Opening and Closing ceremonies: The part of the torch relay occurring during the opening and closing ceremonies of the Games is part of the exclusive rights granted to RHBs and any broadcast by Non-RHBs must comply with the IOC News Access Rules.
