Music in the Museum is the largest series of classical music of its kind in Brazil and was
inspired by projects developed by renowned museums around the world, combining their
main activities in visual arts with this great artistic expression: the classical music!
Music in the Museum has performed a myriad of concerts in different regions of Brazil and,
since 2005, also in many cities around the world, such as Paris, Lisbon, Prague, Frankfurt,
Madrid, New York, Rabat, London, Hanoi, Salamanca, Bilbao, New Delhi, Sidney, Canberra,
Brisbane, Los Angeles, Santiago de Chile, Honolulu, among others.
Jerzy Milewski was born in Warsaw, Poland, in a house frequented by musicians from
the best musical circles. Publicly praised as a prodigy at the age of 6, Jerzy then began his
international career as a violin soloist.
A graduate from Warsaw's Music Academy, he played as soloist and member of Poland's
National Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra, performing in the major concert halls of Europe,
the Americas and Asia. In 1969, the Polish government awarded him the coveted Henry
Wienawsky Medal, joining three other famous recipients: David Oistrach, Henryk Szeryng and
Janos Kulka.
In 1968 he met and married the brazilian pianist Aleida Schweitzer, thus creating the
Milewski Duo. Since then, the Duo has produced a number of excepcional recordings and
has toured the world for thirty years. Encouraged by Aleida, Milewski moved to Brazil in the
early 70's dedicating a good part of this life to the research and discoveries of Brazilian
composers and music.
Milewski was appointed director and producer for the implementation of Didactic Concerts.
The goal of these concerts was to encourage music appreciation by people of all ages, in
elementary and high schools, universities and communities. At present, as a Visiting Professor
of Music at the Federal University of Espirito Santo.
Aleida Schweitzer brazilian pianist made her studies in Rio de Janeiro, perfecting herself
at the Royal Conservatory of Amsterdam and the Faculty of Music of the University of Warsaw.
Renowned and award-winning chamber musician, she worked alongside Jean Pierre Rampal,
Cristina Walewska, Boris Pergamenshikov, Daniel Heifetz, Anatoli Krastev, among others.
