Its roomy cabin can seat up to 30 passengers. EESC-USP © M. EESC-USP © M. Becker 2011 32 EMBRAER’s Crisis • The combination of some factors (failure of the Vector project and the crisis in the aviation segment caused by the oil price increase of 1990) made Embraer slide into a deep financial crisis. • Massive cuts of expenses were made until 1994. The company reduced the number of employees (Out of 12,600 in 1990 only 3,200 remained) • As a result, engineers of Embraer focused on a new project - a Turbofan regional airliner for 45 passengers, the ERJ 145. Source: Wikipedia.org EESC-USP © M. Becker 2011 33 EMBRAER’s Crisis • On 7th December 1994, Embraer was privatized, and Maurício Botelho, former executive director of Bozano Group, was named the new president. • Botelho's businessman skills greatly contributed to the recovery of the company. Partnerships with other companies such as Parker Hannifin, Allison Engine Company, and Honeywell attracted enough investments to the development of the ERJ 145. • The outstanding sales of the new regional jet allowed Embraer to finally recover and regain its position as one of the world's most important aircraft manufacturers. Source: Wikipedia.org EESC-USP © M. Becker 2011 34 EMBRAER Today • Embraer has become one of the largest aircraft manufacturers in the world by focusing on specific market segments with high growth potential in commercial, defense, and corporate aviation. • Embraer was Brazil’s largest exporter from 1999 to 2001 and the 2nd largest in 2002, 2003 and 2004. It currently employs more than 16,500 people, 85.5% based in Brazil, and contributes to the creation of more than 3,000 indirect jobs. EESC-USP © M. However, heating reduced the stability of the salt solution and it started to decompose. EESC-USP © M. Becker 2011 43 Plating Metal Parts • Contradictions: • Technical Contradiction • Heating increases productivity (A), but wastes material (B) • Control parameter is temperature • Physical Contradiction • Temperature (C) should be high to increase productivity and low to avoid waste A B Control Parameter C EESC-USP © M. Becker 2011 44 Plating Metal Parts Which separation principle was used to solve the plating solution problem and what was the design concept? In Space… • In nickel plating process process,, high temperature is necessary, necessary, but only in proximity to the parts parts.. To accomplish this, the parts themselves may be heated, rather than the solution solution.. EESC-USP © M. Becker 2011 45 Plating Metal Parts Productivity Waste EESC-USP © M. It may also be used for equal employment opportunity issues, discrimination issues and stereotyping. GOALS: 1. To allow participants to tackle a problem-solving activity; 2. To allow participants to see how important communication is in this type of activity. 3. To let the group see how synergy creates a better solution for the majority of the people involved in the decision-making process. TIME REQUIRED: 45-60 Minutes EESC-USP © M. Becker 2011 69 Jogos You are a space crew originally scheduled to rendezvous with a mother ship on the lighted surface of the moon. Due to mechanical difficulties, however, your ship was forced to land at a spot some 300 km from the rendezvous point. During rere-entry and landing, much of the equipment aboard was damaged. Since survival depends on reaching the mother ship, the most critical items available must be chosen for the 300 km trip. Below are listed the 15 items left intact and undamaged after landing. Your task is to reach the rendezvous point. Place #1 by the most important item, #2 by the second most important item, and so on through to #15, the least important. Please ensure that you don’t change your individual answers during the following group discussion… EESC-USP © M. Becker 2011 70 Jogos EESC-USP © M.
