Eugene Brewer is a former principal, education superintendent for forty- ve schools, and a development specialist in Curriculum and Instruction. Dr. Brewer has researched and published work on the correlation of temperament types with brain quadrant preference. Having applied these principles to the context of worship he has uncovered very interesting paradigms. Overview: Worship - Understanding the Worshiping Brain. Why do we prefer one worship style over another? In this seminar worship styles will be explored in the context of how the brain functions. Each worship naturally resonates toward one style of worship. Learn your style and how to relate and appreciate the style of others. This seminar is for all who are involved in worship leadership-pastors, elders, worship planners, musicians, etc. Scott Griswold, associate director for ASAP Ministries. He previously worked as the director for Global Mission’s Buddhist Study Center in Thailand and as a church planter in Cambodia with Adventist Frontier Missions. Overview: Reach the World Next Door – Author of Reach the World Next Door, a cross-cultural missions training program for reaching immigrants, refugees, and international students in North America, Scott will provide tools for working with different nationalities. Chris Holland, speaker/director for It Is Written Canada. One of the highlights of his ministry was serving as the Chicagoland Evangelism coordinator for the Illinois Conference, where he coordinated 34 live evangelistic series, resulting in over 500 people baptized. Overview: Reaching Former Members - Over 50% of the membership in North America do not attend a church. What has happened to them? What can we do to encourage them to return to fellowship? This seminar will provide practical tools to reach out to former and missing members (Seminar 1&2). Overview: Does Public Evangelism Work in the Contemporary World? Is it true that evangelism doesn’t work? How are we to reach people in the contemporary world? This seminar will provide a brief overview of the history of evangelism and why people say it doesn’t work today. We will provide concrete answers to today’s challenge of reaching the world with the gospel (Semi nar 3&4). John Matthews, North American Division director for Stewardship is an ordained minister who loves music. He holds numerous certi cations in Stewardship, Planned Giving and Trust Services. Overview: Stewardship - This seminar is intended to help the participants understand stewardship principles, especially as they relate to the spirituality of money management in postmodern culture. Jeff Potts, executive secretary and Church Planting coordinator, Man-Sask Conference. Overview:Why Church Planting? Church Planting in a Canadian Context. You will discover why the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Canada today must aggressively launch new congregations. Roy Rugless, director of Prayer and Men’s Ministries for the South Central Conference, is the 2012 recipient of the North American Division’s highest award for Prayer Ministries. Overview: How to Win Souls through Prayer. This seminar is intended to help the participants understand why and how to make effective appeals, always giving the congregation an opportunity to respond to the message presented. Evaldo Vicente, music and donor relations director for It Is Written Canada. Overview: How to Effectively use It Is Written Canada to Reach Your Community - Learn how your church can use It Is Written Canada, with its national media coverage, to effectively reach your community. Curtis Hall is the Founder of Sabbath School Coaching, an international training and consulting ministry based in Atlanta. He works with conferences and churches to increase Sabbath School value through developing their department leaders and teachers. He successfully leads a Sabbath School department that weekly services over 500 children and adults. Overview: Hit the Mark Sabbath School – These workshops for SS department leaders and teachers/facilitators will provide usable strategies to increase the enthusiasm for SS, thereby increasing SS attendance. They will provide relevant and practical strategies that are eld-tested with proven results in better functioning Sabbath Schools. Attend all four consecutive workshops. Education Janice Maitland, associate superintendent of schools for the Ontario Conference, is curriculum spe- cialist and a family life educator who has taught at all levels of education. Overview: Special Character Schools - This seminar examines the meaning of Special Character Schools and their importance in the life of children in the church as it relates to our Adventist world view, and Special Character Schools’ impact on the community. Charles Stanley Rock currently works as a Rehab Support worker for patients who have suffered from traumatic brain injuries along with behavioural issues. Previously, as a behaviour therapist, he worked with children diagnosed with pervasive development disorders, such as Autism and Asperger’s. Overview: Whose Child Is This? Has your child been identi ed as a “problem child” who is argumentative and dif cult to manage? Is he/ she experiencing academic problems and not doing well in school? These are some of the issues Charles Rock will look at in this seminar and provide behavioural strategies for coping with such issues. Youth/AMP Jose Cortes Jr. Until recently, Pastor Cortes was the Youth director for the Atlantic Union, where he was instrumental in the development of the Compassion Movement, mobilizing thousands of youth in compassionate acts and initiatives. Overview: Youth Evangelism - Compassion: Becoming the Eyes, Heart, Hands, and Feet of Jesus in Your Home, Church, and Community. How can your life, church, youth ministries, and all of your church’s ministries become a blessing to many in your city? Jonatán Tejel is the seventh Path nder director of the General Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. He was the creator and the editor of Conexión, a youth ministries magazine for the Adventist Church in Spain. Overview: Ambassadors - Adventist Youth Ministry for Youth (ages 16-21). How can you relevantly minister to youth ages 16-21 in the 21st century? Discover how a new curriculum (The Ambassador Curriculum) will effectively meet the needs of 16-21 year-olds in the church. Tejel is one of the contributors in the development of the new Ambassadors Curriculum. Overview: Discipleship through Club Ministry This seminar shows how Adventurer and Path nder Ministries can be your church’s invaluable tools in equipping children and young people to become true disciples of Jesus. It is intended to enhance the leadership and discipleship skills of Adventurer and Path nder leaders, and to encourage churches without a club to organise one. Edwin Martin is the Adventurer, Path nder and Master Guide Ministries director of the Ontario Confer- ence of Seventh-day Adventists. He also serves as SDACC Path nder representative to the North American Division Path nder Committee. Overview: Organizing Mission Projects for Your Community This workshop is designed to give participants principles and practical tips on how to make their church/club ministries missional and evangelistic. Learn also how to involve your church/club for mission-service projects within Ontario and beyond. Men Rohann Wellington is the Communications Director for the Greater New York Conference. Pastor Wellington worked for many years for CNN and has recently returned to the ministry. Overview: Sexual Trojans! Ooopppss, “I did not mean to click that!” Now what? Come and be a part of this interactive presentation on navigating the electronic sexual traps designed for the unintentional Christian man. Seminar 2: ages 18-35; seminar 3: ages 35-plus. Jonathan Zita, Literature Evangelism director for Lifestyle Canada Education Service (LCES), has been involved in the Literature Ministry in Canada for over 15 years. He is responsible for recruiting, training and bringing support to regular Literature evangelists, Canada Youth Challenge students, and all members involved in the GLOW program. Overview: GLOWing for Him - iForget, iFish and iTouch. Finally a new outreach initiative that everyone can get involved in - even those who may feel too shy to talk to others about Jesus. Receive practical training and a small manual to get you started. Sabbath School and Community Services Shirley Freed is an educator with extensive experience in North America, Pakistan, Europe, Peru, Brazil, China and Cambodia. Her deep passion is for literacy and leadership training. Recently retired from Andrews University, she is currently involved in literacy training in Southeast Asia. Overview: Tutoring and Mentoring - - This seminar targets: 1. Adult literacy – how to go about tutoring adults who can’t read or write; 2. Tutoring for lower grades 1 – 3; 3. Tutoring for upper grades 4 – 12.Attend all four consecutive workshops. Glenn DeSilva, Men’s Ministry and Camp Frenda Ministry director for the Ontario Conference. Overview: How to “Build a Life-Changing Men’s Ministry”. Discover how to develop and maintain a successful men’s ministry for the local church. This session is for newly-elected or existing leaders who want to sharpen their leadership skills and develop a structure and model for their ministry. Carla Baker is the North American Division Women’s Ministries director Overview: Women’s Ministries - Small Group Ministry Support- English You will be trained to work with others to conduct small group ministries and you will be given tools to help in successfully supporting and maintaining these groups. Raquel Queiroz da Costa Arrais, Women’s Ministries, Children and Health Ministries associate director for the General Conference. She is also the plenary speaker for Friday evening. Overview: Women’s Ministries - Small Group Ministry Support – Spanish Roberta Fish is an associate professor in the Health and Biomedical Department at Adventist University. Overview: Hope to the Hurting Heart – Abuse (with Spanish translation). Everyone has to deal with crises in life. Hope for the Hurting Heart workshop deals with the pain of abuse and, trains us how to minister to ourselves and to others who have suffered. Jose na Abuchar de Sanchez has served God alongside her husband, Pastor Daniel Sanchez, for 21 years. Jose na enjoys her family and continues to help her husband minister to the congregations under his care. Overview: Living Waters Spa - Our hectic lives as women needs to be slowed and calmed with periods of refreshing for our health as well as our relationships. We will not be able to give without proper self care. The purpose of the Spa Ministry is to demonstrate God’s love for us; This workshop is designed as a ministry to shut in members, nursing home residents and women shelters. English and Spanish Health and Children’s Ministries Andrea Leah Scott is the director of Health Ministries /Allegheny East Conference. Overview: Authenticating God’s Health Plan Through Science, Fundamentals of Health Ministry: Getting Started and Staying Motivated, and Creative Health Ministries that Work. Melanie Cruz served as the associate director of the NAD’s Children’s Ministries. Overview: “Teaching Adventist Fundamentals to Children” and “Conducting Health Fairs for Children”. Phyllis Washington served as the Children’s Ministries director for the NAD’s Children’s Ministries. Overview: “Conducting Health Fairs for Children”. Maria McClean, Ontario Conference Children’s Ministries and Health Ministries director, and Health coordinator for the SDACC. Overview: “Conducting Health Fairs for Children”. Ermine Leader works as a psychologist at York University. Overview: “Depression in Children and Adolescents: Symptoms and Treatments”. Tim Mash has been a paramedic for 34 years and an instructor/trainer in CPR & First Aid for over 30 years. Overview: CPR/AED demonstration (Infants and Children) ADRA Sharmilla Reid, Donor Relations director, ADRA Canada, has worked with several non-pro t organizations in Canada, including the Canadian Cancer Society. Overview: ADRA Ambassadors – A Passion for Service Learn how, as an ADRA ambassador, you can work with ADRA Canada to demonstrate the loving character of God to those in need through humanitarian acts. Heather Elmendorf is responsible for the ADRA Angels program, ADRA Path nder honours and coordination of ADRA Ambassadors. She interned with ADRA Morocco and the United States Department at UNESCO. Overview: ADRA Ambassadors – from Passion to Action. You will learn the many ways that your passion can be turned into action, and how your actions are changing lives. You will also learn more about current projects, ways to fundraise, and how to inspire your church to join you in service. Special Guest Speakers Mans eld Edwards is the president of the Ontario Conference. He is a newly published author of “Worship Matters”. Dr. Edwards will bring to us our closing charge. Family and Women’s Ministries Family Ministries - David and Joan Rogers David is pastor of Mt. Olive Adventist Church. Joan is the Family & Women’s Ministries director for the Ontario Conference. Jennifer Myrie is a registered marriage and family therapist/ psychotherapist Overview: Family Ministries Cirriculum Module. G. Alex Bryan serves as the executive secretary of the North American Division and associate secretary of the General Conference. He formerly served as the president of the Central States Conference.
