THE SCHOOL The School of Arts and Design (ESAD.CR) belongs to the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria. It was founded in 1990. The importance of ceramics in the region and the great artistic and cultural heritage of Caldas da Rainha, were the determining factors for its location. Pedagogical Building 1, in 1997. It aims to create an alternative approach to the vision of the art world. With its innovations in educational activities, ESAD.CR is a renowned school of national and international importance. Installed on a campus nestled between pine trees and a short distance from the center of Caldas da Rainha, ESAD.CR has several buildings, including the original complex who won the prestigious SECIL Prize in architecture 1998, designed century, by the architect Victor Figueiredo. In the area of audiovisual exist: cameras, tripods, microphones, portable recorders, lighting equipment, projectors video, transparencies, slides and opaque, televisions and readers (VHS, DVD, MiniDV, DVCam), as well as 10 editing stations equipped with the essential hardware and software (Premiere, Final Cut, DVDLab Pro, Photoshop, Pyramix, ProTools). This workshop is equipped with the necessary material for the realization of audiovisual projects. There are also a number of equipment supports from modeling tools, tools to glass laminator, spinneret, oven, scales, table lathes, electric potter's wheel and craft, plaster lathes, glazing booths, ovens electric agitators, among others. All these materials are for the exclusive use of this specialization. The main materials used are the following: five manual printing machines, 2 dryers grid, a compressor wash. An awareness table, a washing machine to pressure, 132 aluminum screens (silks) in various formats. The Printmaking Workshop is a specific space for working manually several relief printing techniques. This space has five presses for the five respective techniques: Lithography (stone), Calcogravura (metal), Woodcut (wood), Linocuts (linoleum), and binding (artist's book). And has the following equipment: 1 woodcut printing press - Polymetal, a calcogravura press - Petervanginkel, linoleum press 1, press 1 binding, a washing tank for acids, 2 dryers grid, a computer, a printer, 1scanner, a lithographic printing press petervanginkel. Analog Photography Labs have 32 black and white enlargers, 5 color enlargers and a large format enlarger. This space have conditions to develop film and enlarge/develop paper. The Digital Photography Labs allows scanning film from all formats, editing and post-production image. The Photography Studio allows shooting various types of objects, with flash lights or tungsten. There are various auxiliary materials such as reflectors, diffusers, backgrounds, tents, tripods, among others. Room: 46 The Digital Workshop offers a wide range of equipment that allows to develop graphic and product models: guillotines, x-acts of shredded, binders, laminator, lightboxes; as well as materials that support graphic composition: Pantone catalog, spectrophotometric Pantone, color calibrator, print and monitors; six computers equipped with specialized software; printers proof/print speed, printers for technical design, quality printer camera and a cutting plotter vinyl. The technological equipment which outfits the wood workshop, aims to work any type of natural wood and its derivatives, such as MDF, chipboard, "Platex" (cluster fiber hard), OSB, plywood, laminated between others. John II of Portugal. In one of her journeys between Batalha and Óbidos, in the year 1484, the Queen noticed a group of people who bathed in a source os water with a nauseating odor, its rich waters sulfur for treating lung diseases and skin. Noting that these waters were an important role in healing the sick, the Queen decided to build a thermal hospital. Thus was born a small town that would later be called Caldas da Rainha.
