Dear Parents,
November 1, 2010
There is no supervision before 9:15 each day. Please allow your
children to remain in your car until this time. Our school begins at
9:40 am
Principal’s Corner
Communication
It’s hard to believe that the first nine weeks of
school is over. Our fabulous Palm Pointe faculty
and staff have consistently displayed their
dedication to your children. Our student rockets
are deep into new learning based on the Next
Generation Sunshine State Standards and are
soaring to success. As always, thank you for your
support of our school, its staff and your children.
Everyone ROCKS at PPE. Thank You!
Debra Snyder, Principal
Monthly parent newsletters will be sent home at the beginning of
each month starting in September. A monthly calendar will be
included with the newsletter. Newsletters and calendars will also be
available to view on our website.
Tardy Students and Early Pick Up
We guard instructional time. Every time a child enters late or is
picked up early, not only does it disrupt their education, but the
teacher and entire class. Please continue to refrain from having
your child arrive late or from picking him/her up early. Please be
reminded that 5 tardies and/or 5 early pick ups in a nine week
period will result in 1 unexcused absence. Thank you for your
assistance with this very important matter. Remember, no changes
in dismissal may be made after 3:30pm each day.
Citizen of the Month
The Citizenship Award will be given to one student in each class in grades K-5 and one per homeroom class in grades 6-8. These students were
selected based on Palm Pointe’s School-wide Rules:
Take Responsibility
Engage in Your Learning
Act Respectfully
Make Safe Choices

Relay for Life 2010-2011
We are so excited to be partnering with the American Cancer Society again this year in the Relay for Life event. Last year our school
raised and donated over $4,600.00 to the American Cancer Society to support Cancer Research and Wellness Programs. This year our
goal is to raise $5,000.00. We are off to a great start. We held a Fall Candy Gram sale and a McTeacher night which helped get our
funds rolling. Thursday, November 18th, we are hosting a bake sale table at the Fall BBQ and Bazaar, so come by our table and take
home some yummy treats. Later in the year, we will be holding a walk a thon, here at school, to get the students motivated for our
upcoming Relay event. We will continue to send you information on our Relay for Life Fundraising Events. The Actual Relay event
that we are participating in takes place May 13th and 14th of 2011. The theme this year is cartoon characters and we have chosen to
represent “The Jetsons”, as we are the Palm Pointe Rockets. We appreciate all your support as we join together in the fight against
cancer.
School Choice Program
Florida Department of Education has selected Palm Pointe as one of the charter schools to be featured in a documentary on school
choice. They will be here November 12 to video a walkthrough focused on accomplishment and will also interview administration,
teachers, students and parents. The goal of the video is to show effective learning in a diversed community and the important role that
Charter Schools have in Florida.
Research Projects
United Way-- You can help to support this worthy cause!
As part of our continuing mission at Palm Pointe, research for
2010-2011 has started off with a bang! Teachers from all grade
levels and all subject areas are involved in job embedded
professional development striving for excellence in the classroom.
Research projects include research on best practices teaching
spelling, utilizing graphs for self monitoring in math, online
reading with Kindle books, integration of reading and music in the
classroom, application of a leadership and life skills curriculum,
effectiveness of rotating center activities, application of thinking
maps, using video self modeling to enhance social skills, not to
mention a wide variety of Learning Communities where teachers
are learning and sharing and gaining new perspectives on different
topics. Palm Pointe will be holding our own Teacher Inquiry
Kickoff with special guest Carla Moore on November 3, 2010.
We look forward to an exciting year ahead!
In St. Lucie County, the United Way continues to focus on critical issues
such as education, health, the elderly, and helping our children. This year
again we are being called upon to help to make a difference in our
community. All contributions are invested in programs that work directly
with our neighbors here in St. Lucie County. We hope you will consider
supporting the United Way in making a difference in the lives of those in
need. There are several ways that you can show your support.
November 15-19th, is our “Change A Child” fundraiser. All staff and
students are encouraged to clean out those piggy banks, spare change at the
bottom of the purse, etc…to donate to this fundraiser for United Way.
Teachers will collect change in their classes and/or parents can donate in jar
in front office.
Friday November 19th is Silly Hat Day! For $1, both students and staff
can wear their silliest hat for the day. Also, November 23 will be a no
dress code day for $1.00. Guidelines will be forthcoming. We look
forward to your creativity and support for United Way!
Spirit Shirts
Progress Report
Please remember Spirit Shirts may be worn on Friday only. PE
uniforms are part of the spirit day dress code. Shirts are available in the
office.
Beginning in November, printed copies of Progress Report will be
provided every 3 week to those of you requesting hard copies. We
strongly encourage all of you with internet access at home or work
to use Skyward where grades are always current. Even if you do not
have personal access you can visit the public libraries or Palm
Pointe to gain access to keep current with your child’s progress.

1. Click on the parent/ student tab
2. On the left hit the link Skyward Family Access
3. On the login screen enter your child’s 56 number (10 digits long)

Dress Code
Thank you for supporting our “Dress for Success” for students. They
look fabulous. Remember dress code guidelines are outlined in the
student handbook and on our website.

We are still accepting vendors for the Fall BBQ and Bazaar. It
will be held Thursday, November 18 from 5-8. Sign up today.
“Box Tops”
We are keeping track of them as the year goes on! Turn them in
now & they count towards your class total! Clip them along the
dotted line – that is how we have to turn them in…every
trimmed one saves so much time!
Make sure you write your child’s teacher on the bag. Keep
trimming & collecting! Remember to send in your Campbell's
soup labels and inkjet cartridges.
Thank you for supporting our Rockets!!
Spirit Shirts are available for $10.00 in the
Front office. Students may wear any Palm
Pointe T-Shirt on Spirit Day.

We dismiss approximately 800 students daily in cars or walking
home. For those of you walking to pick up your children please
wait in front of the office (in the area before the flagpole). Parents
are not permitted to walk through areas designated for car pick up.
Your cooperation will eliminate additional traffic in areas reserved
for car pick-up and drop off. The safety of our Rockets during the
