L The Huntington School Hawkeye The Principal’s Point Ms. Saba It has been a terrific start to the 2013-2014 school year. Last year, our enrichment hour brought many wonderful opportunities and experiences for our students. This year, we have been able to expand our program with a new science curriculum. This supports our initiatives focused on S.T.E.A.M Education. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Math). The students and faculty are enjoying this focus as well as the physical movement, character education, and the arts. K&1 2&3 4&5 Enrichment Schedule Mon. Tues. Thurs. & Fri. Arts & Crafts & Character Education & Science Cooperative Games & Character Education & Science Character Education & Cooperative Sports & Science We will be following this schedule until February when students will be given new opportunities. We will also be adding some additional activities such as chorus, cooking, yearbook, school store, service learning and MCAS Mania. Thank you for your continued support as we develop our exciting programming! A couple of very important things you can do to ensure your child’s success and safety: Have your child here on time. They are late after 7:50 a.m. Unless your child has an appointment, please leave them in school for the entire school day Please pick your child up from school on-time (3:55 Mon. Tues. Thurs. Fri.) (3:00 Wednesdays) Have your child in the proper clothing Please use crosswalks at dismissal. This has once again become problematic and creates a safety concern for the entire Huntington School community. We are partners in providing your child with an excellent educational experience and we value your support. Absentee Phone Line: 508 580- 7065 Please make sure to call the absentee line before 8:00 AM if your child will not be in school. The parent or guardian must make the phone call. Phone calls made by students are not acceptable and every effort will be made to contact the parent. Upon their return to school, students must bring a note stating the dates absent and reason, signed by the parent or guardian. After an absence of 5 days a doctor’s note is required. Tardy Arrivals All students arriving AT 7:50 am are considered TARDY & must be accompanied by an adult, and signed in at the office. No students should be dropped off to enter the building alone. From Your Parent Liaison As a parent I’m sure you are paying attention to the choices that affect your children’s education. One very effective way to do that is to join the school P.T.O. (Parent Teacher Organization) The P.T.O. is a community of dedicated parents & teachers that join together to provide the school and it’s students with the highest advantages in education. With active participation the P.T.O. manages activities, programs, and fundraising events that make a difference in the quality of education and experiences for the children in your life. The only qualification in joining the P.T.O. is to be a parent/guardian or teacher of a student in the school. Joining the P.T.O. allows you to be involved in your children’s education, get connected with the school, and to meet and share concerns with other parents and teachers. It also gives you a voice on important school issues. Being a member of the P.T.O. involves attending a meeting once per month and volunteering for school functions and various other activities. Participation is welcome and needed in many ways, whether you are an at home or working parent we encourage you to share your abilities for the betterment of our children. The new school year has started and you are urged to attend and become part of the Huntington School P.T.O. on the first Monday of each month at 6:00 pm. Light refreshments may be served, and babysitting is provided. Our first meeting will be on Oct. 7th. For more information contact: Cynthia Glynn, Parent Liaison, Huntington School. [email protected] Friendly Reminders Important Times: Breakfast is served at 7:30 a.m. School Begins at 7:45 AM Students arriving at 7:50 AM. are TARDY and will need to report to the office with an adult to sign in. The academic day is: 7:50 AM – 3:55 PM Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, & Friday Wednesday dismissal time is 3:00 PM Half-day dismissal is at 11:15 AM Please make every effort to avoid dismissing your child during these hours as it not only effects your child’s learning process but disrupts the entire class.
