conto homônimo do escritor Murilo Rubião, narra a estória inusitada de um THE EX-MAGICIAN OF MINHOTA TAVERN, film based

MURILO RUBIÃO: DA LITERATURA AO CINEMA
Murilo Rubião (1916-1991) é o primeiro contista do realismo fantástico
nas letras brasileiras. Sua obra permaneceu pouco conhecida pelo grande
público por mais de três décadas, quando a reedição do seu livro de contos O
PIROTÉCNICO ZACARIAS em 1974 o tiraria do anonimato. Com a
divulgação maciça do gênero fantástico através das letras hispano-americanas
(Borges, Cortázar, Garcia Márquez e outros), Murilo não é mais uma ovelha
negra no panorama de nossas letras.
Com o lançamento de seu primeiro livro O EX-MÁGICO , em 1947, os
mais próximos o liam com uma mistura de perplexidade e fascinação: “O
mais estranho é o seu dom forte de impor o caso irreal. O mesmo dom de um
Kafka, a gente não se preocupa mais, é preso pelo conto, vai lendo e
aceitando o irreal como se fosse real, sem nenhuma reação mais forte.” Com
essas palavras, Mário de Andrade já apontava para o fenômeno mais
característico da obra de Murilo Rubião, temas absurdos-mágicos
estruturados como realidade.
O contista cria um paradoxo entre uma linguagem simples e depurada, e
temas absolutamente inverossímeis. Os próprios personagens aceitam os
eventos fantásticos com naturalidade. O insólito e o absurdo de Murilo
Rubião ultrapassam a escrita, transpõem a ficção. São utilizados como
testemunho de certo cotidiano, traduzem inquietações de nosso tempo,
mostram ainda os dramas de condição humana, onde fantásticos são os
homens com seus preconceitos, desencontros e paixões.
MURILO RUBIÃO: FROM LITERATURE TO THE
CINEMA
Murilo Rubião (1916-1991) is the first Magic Realism short story writer
of Brazilian literature. His writings remained little known for more than three
decades. When his book of short stories, “The Pyrotechnic Zacarias”, was republished in 1974 he was no longer anonymous. As Magic Realism became a
widespread literary style in Latin American letters through some of its
greatest exponents - Borges, Cortázar, Garcia Márquez, among others, Murilo
is not a black sheep on the scene anymore.
After Murilo Rubião’s first book “The Ex-Magician of Minhota Tavern”
was launched in 1947, his fellows’ reactions would range from perplexity to
fascination: “The strangest thing is his strong talent for inspiring with the
unreal story. The same talent as a Kafka, we stop worrying, we are trapped by
the story, we go on reading and accepting the unreal as if it were real, without
any further deep reaction to it.” Through those words, Mário de Andrade
already pointed out to what is the most characteristic phenomenom of Murilo
Rubião’s work: absurd-magic themes put together as reality.
The writer creates a paradox between a simple and clear language and
absolutely improbable themes. Even the characters accept the fantastic
happenings as natural. The uncommon and the absurd are beyond Murilo
Rubião’s writings, they pass over fiction. They are used as a testimony of a
sort of daily life, they translate the uneasiness of our times, showing as well
the dramas of the human condition, in which men and their prejudice, their
differences and their passions are the magic.
