Player Profile
Mayara Gomes and
Aline Viapiana
The Laker volleyball team had
the opportunity to have two
Brazilian players on their team
this year. Mayara Gomes comes
from Sao Paulo, SP and is the
setter for the team.
Aline
Viapiana is from Colombo, PR
and the Middle Blocker for the
team. Both are sophomore
transfers from Polk State College
and undecided on where they are
going next year. They both are
majoring
in

to like Lake-Sumter. Aline says,
“The professors are much nicer
here and always willing to help us
outside the classroom. That was
a big help for me.”
Both
Brazilians finished the year off
with great accomplishments.
Mayara made First Team AllConference and finished with 559
assists and 201 digs. Aline made
Second Team All-Conference and

Roe, a longtime Major League
Baseball umpire, spoke at the
recent Lake-Sumter Community
College's

"I just
appreciate the fact that people
remember who I am and what I
did," Roe told the annual
gathering of LSCC studentathletes, coaches, and program
supporters. "I guess that means I
did
something
right."
Roe is a former umpire in the
Major Leagues who worked in the
