Architectural Project and landscaping
With the concept developed by the North American company RTKL and coordination of José
Quintela da Fonseca, head of the Conceptual Development and Architecture of Sonae Sierra,
and Renato Falzetta, Architect of Sonae Sierra Brasil, the Uberlândia Shopping project uses
as part of its theme the lush vegetation and natural features of the Cerrado Mineiro. To
highlight this aspect, the decoration of the shopping centre brings colors and textures of the
region, which are present on the facades and corridors. The different geometric shapes and
the asymmetry prevail in the architecture with large glass areas for better use of natural
light.
Uberlândia Shopping will offer a cozy atmosphere with living spaces and greenery.
Approximately 90,000 plants of 78 species, including herbs, shrubs, palms and trees that
are part of the landscaping project were planted in the inside and outside areas of the
enterprise. The tree symbol of the local vegetation, the Ipe, is present in the parking. A
plaza inside the Shopping centre has three tree of the species Pau Ferro and landscaping
designed specifically for this area.
One of the highlights of the shopping centre project is the Food Court with a glass wall and
a terrace with a great view of the city. Located in an upper region of the city the shopping
centre can be seen at a great distance which makes the architecture even more striking.
The facade of the development features three vertical gardens totaling about 760 sqm.

Special Atmosphere
Uberlândia Shopping has different elements along with its decor. The Space Family
atmosphere is signed by Estúdio Casa de Idéias from Uberlândia and the prints of fabrics
used in the furniture, inspired by the Cerrado Mineiro, is signed by Isabella Carvalho from
Sao Paulo.
The plaza inside the shopping centre, where the Pau Ferro trees are, has been given a
suspended sculpture with 10 meters in diameter. Inspired by the sky of Cerrado Mineiro,
the “nuvem cerradiana” is made of 730 small pieces of wire mesh, with a predominance of
pink and lilac colors. The piece was created by the artist and designer from Uberlândia,
Alexandre França, and executed by the Estúdio Casa de Ideias.
The Food Court has a unique lighting design, designed by American Theo Kondos.
Approximately 15 luminaries shaped as a bunch of flowers are distributed there. They are
eight meter high by three in diameter and use white and yellow LED lights. In the frontlet
above the shops are bamboos arranged and graphic elements decorating the space.
The bathrooms’ project thematization, developed by the team of Design of Sonae Sierra,
has sophisticated finishes and windows with a new concept in Brazil. The scenography is
signed by the MV Office, with creative direction by Jonas Noronha from Sao Paulo. Inspired
by the baroque from Minas Gerais windows decorate the spaces with mannequins dressed in
the period costumes like wigs, jewels and lingerie designed by Thais Gusmão, who signs all
the fashion production. There are six windows in total with 16 models decorated in Rococo
style. The bathrooms also have white balls luminaries of different sizes arranged in a
sculptural concept also signed by Theo Kondos.
The frontlets of the corridors, in the upper floor, get drawings of trees inspired in the
landscape of the Cerrado. The shopping centre furniture was specially designed by the
Design team of the company. Among them, are giant luminaries distributed in the lounges.
Four footbridges, that cross the gardens of the corridors, is shaped like a piano keyboard
where visitors can step and play music. Under the escalators the kids can go through a
tunnel-shaped dolls.
Corporate Responsibility
Following the Corporate Responsibility Policy of Sonae Sierra Brasil, Uberlândia Shopping
adopted several measures to reduce the impact on the nature and to ensure the safety and
health of the workers. The construction work of the shopping centre received the ISO 14001
certification for environmental management and OHSAS 18001 certification related to good
practice in Labor Health and Safety. This was the second construction work of shopping
centre in the world and the first in America to receive both certifications simultaneously.
Besides using sustainable architectural solutions such as the use of glazed areas that
emphasizes the natural light and allows for energy saving and the installation of green walls
in the façade, the operation of the shopping centre will also have a number of measures for
nature conservation such as the use of modern air conditioners that use less water and less
3/4
energy. The faucets have automatic sensors and aerators and the toilet flushes are
economic controlling the water volume. The shopping centre graphics, including the logo of
the facade, use LED bulbs which consume up to 80% less energy than regular bulbs.
To encourage the use of clean vehicles and physical activity Uberlândia Shopping will also
have a bike rack with capacity for 170 bicycles.
Free services offered
Uberlândia Shopping will offer some special services for its visitors such as the Family Area
with approximately 65 square meters where mothers and fathers will have available a space
with sinks and exchangers, complete structure for feeding the baby and loan of strollers.
