By Miguel Petchkovsky, Video Guerilla’s Curator
The Video Guerrilla concept - conceived by the artist, Alexis Anastasiou,
VJ and founder of Visualfarm- expresses a clear need ofthe contemporary
discourse to generaterelational processes, the contemporary experience,
individually and collectively, refers to an urban imaginaryand reveals an
artificial temporality, which is artistically represented and reproduced by
the new technologies of videographicprojection.
The project’s conceptual engagement translates itself into an open
platform to contemporary creativity, expressed in a space of social
activity, the public space, in which the interfaces between the creative
technological practices, with multiple formats, and the big urban
audience is established, bringing forthgroundbreaking flows of
information, communication, subjectivity production, possibility and
continuity.
The Video Guerrilla is a pragmatic reflection centered in the
representative expressions of social and public spaces, and in the
contemporary artistic practices of new media, articulated with the
most recent languages and narratives of monumental image projection
technologies. Thus, catalyses and inspires a transversal flow of ideas,
polysemic to the everyday, tangent to the experience and to individual
creativity, although positioned in a collective context.
In another level, the Video Guerrilla is a creative attitude, inclusive, urban,
of sustainability, against the inner spaces of artistic practices. It regards
the city as independent organism, constantly changing its architectural
and social pattern, which areoften imperceptible to the common citizens.
In this way, the creative experience of Video Guerrilla belongs to
everyone, since they act as renewers and inspiring social agents, of this
modern artistic-technological textuality.

The choice of “Rua Augusta” as the venue for
the Video Guerrilla was deliberate, because it is
an icon of the city of Sao Paulo. It had its heyday
as an economic showcase in 50´s and 60´s. In
the 70s, 80s and 90s it underwent social decay,
dominated by prostitution and drug sales. Today
it´s a center of art and urban culture, socially and
economically revitalized.

Interactivity
Video Guerrilla 2011 featured two special areas of
interactivity, created by the Visualfarm team, where
large numbers of people could interact and play
directly with the installations.
The Agigantador of people
The Agigantador of people
The “Agigantador de pessoas” (people
magnifier) was our most successful
installation. A simple format, it touches the
self-esteem of ordinary citizens directly,
playing with the perception they have of
their own image, turning them into real
everyday “artists and actors”, giving them
the power and opportunity to become a
Giant for a minute.
