Synopsis:
Pessoa is the manifold poet, who needs countless different voices to portray life’s
infinite variety. He is, as he defines himself, a symphony played by a hidden orchestra
which resides within his soul. This performance hopes to make heard part of that
music which, at times, invokes not only sentiments of longing or tragedy, but also
humour, irony and the splendour of being alive, even if we never know whether those
movements we see and hear are real or dreamt up; it does not matter, that is what
theatre is all about.
The performance arises from some texts, which, like fragments found in our author’s
mystical chest, are converted into a message for the public, just like the ones
castaways sent out from their deserted islands. The audience becomes interwoven
with the dialogue, which is made up of alliances, confessions, witticism, reprimands,
misunderstandings and surprises… and in which the actors pretend to be one and
many at the same time, something which is very particular to all people and the multifaceted Pessoa.
To dare to follow Fernando Pessoa is to dare to look at the world and ourselves with
such radical transparency, to undo prejudices, the great ideologies, the great schools
of thought. It means to discover as children the terrifying beauty that surrounds us and
from henceforth learn to be otherwise… Nothing seems more necessary and
contemporary.
