Dear human resources, I would very much like to be considered for your open graphic design position. My skills, experience, schooling and talent make me a perfect candidate. I hold a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Visual Communication Design from the Ohio State University. The Visual Communication Design department at Ohio State is well known for its critical and well-planned design. Currently, I am a graphic designer in a small agency in Midtown NYC called Fathom Creative, which works almost exclusively for Weber Shandwick, one of the world’s largest PR firms. Under extremely tight deadlines and little to no art direction, I produce identity design, books, brochures, direct mailers, and presentation materials including digital presentations/Powerpoints, information graphics, posters and event signage for clients such as Microsoft, Best Buy, Mastercard Worldwide, Saks, Bayer, Hertz, Honeywell and Unilever [Caress, Suave, Renuzit, All, Wisk, Snuggle]. It is a small and hectic office environment, in which I have become adept at multi-tasking, time management and personal relations. My previous experience, as the sole designer for a boutique textile firm in Chelsea and in-house for the Ohio State University, as well as several years in customer service, has prepared me to work well with brands, and to work quickly and effectively , with or without art direction, in groups or alone. I am an expert in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and Illustrator, and Microsoft Powerpoint, Excel and Word, and proficient in Flash. to display Weber Shandwick’s Public Relations capabilities – tailored for a meeting with Best Buy’s “@ 15” Non-profit organization. SOLUTION | After creating a quarter-scale grid in Illustrator, I decided on 4 poster sizes – 1’ x 1’, 2’ x 2’, 2’ x 4’, and 4’ x 1’ – and separated the content into categories based on theme and importance. Using Weber Shandwick’s core colors, with addition of a deep orange, and Trade Gothic, I created 45 different posters to tile across the wall of a conference room. The posters, printed on foam core and backed with velcro, can be attached to the wall in a near-endless possibility of combinations. ADVERTISEMENT STATES AND CITIES ACROSS AMERICA ARE CREATING A CONFLICTING PATCHWORK OF EMPLOYMENT VERIFICATION LAWS AND REGULATIONS. IT’S TIME FOR CONGRESS | Society for Human Resource Management OBJECTIVE | Create a newspaper advertisement displaying the CLIENT notion that several states have very different policies concerning immigration in the workforce. SOLUTION | Since political advertisements are often dull and lifeless, I wanted to create an eye-catching page that would appeal to a mass audience of voters. Using the theme of a “patchwork” of different states with different policies, I dismantled a map of the United States to illustrate the disconnection between states, and the need for Congress to create a uniform system. SUPPORT HR123. www.legal-workforce.org vitesse corporate identity | Personal work OBJECTIVE | Create a mark, logotype and various applications to CLIENT comprise a corporate identity. solution | For a swimwear company, the mark needed to be simple and dynamic, yet bold enough to be recognized on all applications – including on differently patterned swimsuits. The final logotype shows a stylized swimmer emerging from a wave, while creating a ‘v.’ the color palette suggests energy and speed, while further emphasizing water and skin. The logotype and mark also work in black and white formats. Both horizontal and vertical treatments were created. JOHN ROBSHAW TEXTILES’ FALL 2007 CATALOG 4IFFUT | John Robshaw Textiles OBJECTIVE | Create a catalog to showcase all items in the Fall CLIENT Printed on the finest cotton, pre-washed, and re-washed after printing to make them exceptionally soft and chemical-free, each sheet and pillowcase is hand embroidered by our patient seamstresses in India. 2007 John Robshaw collection. SOLUTION | John Robshaw is well known for his ruralSoutheast-Asia-meets-New-York-City aesthetic, and all of his products are hand-made by indigenous artisans in India. My goal was to incorporate a human feel and a sense of world travel to the catalog. I used John’s photographs of his travels, artisans working on the product, and, for the cover, scans of the fabric/product itself. SOLUTION | Previously, each product (and each product size) sold by John Robshaw Textiles came in a different sized package – that’s more than 30 different sizes – and the packaging told nothing about JRT as a company. I developed a vinyl packaging system that comprises of four main sizes and three secondary sizes, and a system of interchangeable cards, printed on handmade paper, with photos from John’s travels, which show not only what the package contains, but tell a story about the company itself.
