Madasa do Brasil has the pleasure to inform that following the Brazilian Government’s official approval of
Salmonella A-BAX, on December 16, 2005 the Listeria Monocytogenes A-BAX method, has been declared an
official test by the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture.
This is an important milestone for the Madasa Team as this makes the A-BAX System, the only non traditional
method declared to be official for Salmonella and Listeria testing.

DIRECTIVE (“INSTRUÇÃO NORMATIVA”) NUMBER 41, DECEMBER 12, 2005
The Secretary of the Bureau of Agriculture and Cattle Raising Safety (“SDA”), exercising the prerogative
conferred by Section 42, of Annex I, of Decree 5.351 of January 21, 2005, and by the content of Process
number 21000.009060/2005-81, decides to:
Section 1 – Approve the Analytical Methods, Isolation and Identification of Salmonella in beef, poultry and egg
products – MLG – 4.03, Alternative Method of Salmonella A-Bax – MLG 4C .01, Isolation and Identification of
Listeria Monocytogenes in beef, poultry, eggs and environmental samples, MLG 8.04 - Alternative Method of
Listeria A-Bax – MLG-8 A .01,(…), which hereby constitute Official Standards for Microbiological Analyses of
Animal Products.
Section 2 – The information regarding the Official Methods will be available for interested parties at the
Department of General Coordination of Laboratory Support at the Agriculture Ministry (Coordenação-Geral de
Apoio Laboratorial – CGAL/SDA/MAPA), at the National Agriculture Library (Biblioteca Nacional de Agricultura
– BINAGRI) and at the Agriculture Ministry website on the Internet (www.agricultura.gov.br).
Section 3 – This Directive (“Instrução Normativa”) shall be in effect as of the date of its publication.

INSTRUÇÃO NORMATIVA Nº 40, DE 12 DE DEZEMBRO DE 2005
O SECRETÁRIO DE DEFESA AGROPECUÁRIA DO MINISTÉRIO DA AGRICULTURA, PECUÁRIA E
ABASTECIMENTO, no uso da atribuição que lhe confere o art. 42, do Anexo I, do Decreto nº 5.351, de 21 de
janeiro de 2005, e o que consta do Processo nº 21000.009060/2005-81, resolve:
Art. 1º Aprovar os Métodos Analíticos, Isolamento e Identificação da Salmonella na carne bovina,
avicultura e produtos derivados de ovos - MLG - 4.03, Metodologia Alternativa de Salmonella A-Bax -MLG 4C
.01, Isolamento e Identificação de Listeria Monocytógenes em carne vermelha, carne de ave, ovos e amostras
ambientais, MLG 8.04 - Metodologia Alternativa de Listéria A-BAX MLG-8 A .01,(...) , que passam a constituir
Padrões Oficiais para Análise de Microbiologia de Produtos de Origem Animal.
Art. 2º Os Métodos Oficiais estarão à disposição dos interessados na Coordenação-Geral de Apoio
Laboratorial - CGAL/SDA/MAPA, na Biblioteca Nacional de Agricultura – BINAGRI e no sítio do Ministério da
Agricultura, Pecuária e Abastecimento na rede mundial de computadores, endereço eletrônico:
www.agricultura.gov.br.
Art. 3º Esta Instrução Normativa entra em vigor na data de sua publicação.
