playing host to two successful highprofile tournaments…
Over 100 participants turned out
for the Amateur Week, now incredibly in its 19th year. Congratulations
to the winners.
The Volvo Matchplay Championship Final brought 50 of the UK’s
top golfers, hailing from clubs
all over the country and having
successfully won their qualifying rounds, to join together in the
spectacular final.
The Vale do Lobo Golf Masters returns from 22nd – 25th March, whilst
the fabulous Foursomes Week, celebrating its 30th edition, will take
place from 20th – 26th May, and if
you are planning to combine with
a family break then try the special
tournament package.
The Ronald McDonald Charity Cup
and the Footballers versus Cricketers celebrity-packed tournament
will both return this September,

he Vale do Lobo Art Gallery is
taking a refreshing approach
to the New Year by commissioning a special exhibition by Centro
Cultural São Lourenço, dedicated
to chairs, beginning 9th February.
Not any ordinary chairs of course,
but a fun and lively collection of
14 decorative pieces created by a
number of international and national artists, all using the same
chair. Known in Portugal as the
“Cadeira de Bacalhau” – translated as the Codfish Chair, due to
its unusual shape – it largely bears
resemblance to the Westport Chair
designed and sold in the United
States in the early 1900s.
If you are looking for something
different that will bring a smile to
your face, then the “Chair Play” art
exhibition is well worth a visit. The
Vale do Lobo Art Gallery is open
daily from 09:00h – 18:00h and entry is free.

e surge agora de forma ligeiramente
diferente. Com originais variações desenvolvidas pela designer Cristina Palma e criativamente trabalhadas por
vários artistas nacionais e internacionais, numa mostra inédita no resort.

place at the Vale do Lobo Tennis
Academy. Combined tennis and

be pleased to hear the event returns this year (4th-12th February), bringing promising young
female players from Europe,
and some true ‘ones to watch
out for’ to this world-ranking

he response to the closing exhibition of 2011, the “Ria Formosa – Young Talent” competition
was fantastic and a huge thank you
to everyone who visited the Vale do
Lobo Art Gallery to vote for their
favourite piece.
Local schoolchildren enjoyed creating their pieces of work, from
sculptures and papier mache to
objet’s d’art, paintings and sketches, and their hard work was pretty
impressive.
The winners, following a public vote, were: Shannon O’Brien
(1st Place) and Amy Greentre (2nd
Place).
Congratulations to all the children
who took part – a brilliant incentive, and hopefully it will return to
Vale do Lobo soon.

Brush Away

W
e all want to have beautiful
and healthy teeth, and daily
oral hygiene is an essential part
of your daily routine to guarantee
that winning smile.
Oral hygiene should be carried
out at least twice a day, ideally
lasting between three to five minutes each time.
Brushing is particularly important at night before going to bed.
The point of brushing your teeth
is to remove any food particles and
bacteria that may have attached to
the teeth during the course of the
day. It’s really important that correct brushing techniques are used
so as that you reach all your teeth
and gums successfully. Ideally
your brush should be angled at 45
degrees when you clean your teeth,
aiming for each individual tooth to
ensure a thorough clean.
Try to use a brush that is either soft
or of medium hardness and ensure
that your toothpaste meets the requirements or concerns of your
teeth.
A good tip is to use dental floss
during the day, in between brushing, and particularly at night. Try
brushing the top of your tongue
also (using a tongue brush) as this
help to clear bacteria and maintain
fresh breath.
You should see a dentist every six
months, which is essential to eliminate any tartar build up (often not
visible to the naked eye as under the
gum) and to prevent the risk of cavities and gum infections. Regular
dental appointments also help prevent problems so they are treatable
early on. Polishing your teeth at the
dentist will help to eliminate stains
and gently exfoliate the gums,
keeping them healthy and toned.
