Dec Newsletter 2012
December 2012 The Association of the Friesian Horse Studbook of Southern Africa Letter from the Chairman Dear Members I cannot believe that this year has flashed past so fast. So much has been achieved within the Organisaon – and so much has been achieved in the Show Arena’s within the FPSSA Shows – and in the compeon arenas of carriage driving and dressage with our wonderful Black Beaues during 2012. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the members of the Society who have given so much of their me in ensuring the on-going successful running and day to day operang of the FPSSA. One year ago the FPSSA was in a slightly difficult Financial posion – and it has been a tough ba+le over the last 12 months to bring it all together. With connued acve negoaon with the KFPS, coupled with the drive to collect money in from members – we have managed to turn the situaon around and can confidently state today that we are a well funded and financially strong organisaon. We could also not have achieved this objecve if our members had not paid their accounts – so thank you to everyone who has pulled their weight – and allowed us to get the FPSSA standing on firm foong and looking very healthy for the future. The Shows this year have also been extremely well organised and run by the Show Commi+ee – and I would also like to thank Kate and Michelle for their reless effort in pu5ng it all together. They also spend a lot of me each year organising the judging schedule – which is no easy task when we have so many Provinces to cover – with an ever increasing amount of horses requiring judging. The standard of the horses being judged is increasing year on year – and the volume of well bred, modern Friesians is becoming more and more apparent by the amount of new horses being registered and judged each year. The judges connue to comment on how quickly South Africa has evolved in terms of the Friesian breed – and how we are breeding horses now in our own Country that could easily compete on an Internaonal level. This is all very posive news going forward for the FPSSA as a Society – and the Friesian horse as a breed in South Africa. With the quality of Friesian we have in S A – it is wonderful to see that people connue to try to li7 their standards year on year – and we would like to thank you all for connuing to strive to breed the best Friesians you possibly can. It has also been a fantasc year for Friesian horses on the Sport front with so many Friesians represenng the breed in Carriage events, and Dressage events around the Country. These Friesians are proving that this breed is a force to be reckoned with in the compeon arena – and one that will connue to expand in years to come. All that remains is to say thank you to everyone for your support of the FPSSA over the last 12 months – without the posive approach of our members – and the assistance we receive from you – we would not have a successful organisaon. Have a truly wonderful Christmas with your families and your Black Pearls – and a very Peaceful New Year. Looking forward to seeing you all at the Horse of the Year in February 2013. Kind regards, TIM The Association of the Friesian Horse Studbook of Southern Africa HOY 2013 IMPORTANT Horse of the Year 2012 is upon us again. The Association of the Friesian Horse Studbook of Southern Africa 2 MORE STUDBOOK STALLIONS FOR SA Celeste Steyn of Pela Graca writes ….. When I visited the Netherlands in January 2012 and a+ended the “Hengste Keuring”, Epke 474 and Djoerd 473 caught my eye and I marked them in my catalogue as being our future as I saw that these two were top quality horses. Jan Folmer and Femke Dijkstra from De Nieuwe Heuwel in Lunteren also had faith in these two stallions. “Twee toppers!” Jan said to me when I visited there later in the year. And “Twee Toppers” they have proven to be. We are very blessed to have Epke 474 and Djoerd 473 and will always to be grateful to our friends and partners at De Nieuwe Heuwel and to all of those who have put so much me and effort into these two beaues. Both stallions will stay in the Netherlands for now, but we will be imporng frozen semen to South Africa. Our vision is to help support all the other breeders in South Africa and increase the gene pool and hopefully see a studbook stallion being bred on our shores. I truly believe that these two beauful young stallions will benefit South Africa in the future. Epke 474 Stb Dries 421 is doing well at Pela Graça Friesian Stud and is about to start the breeding season.” Djoerd 473 Stb Epke 474 Stb FOAL NAMES 2012—MNO FOAL NAMES 2012 PQR The Association of the Friesian Horse Studbook of Southern Africa IMPORTANT INFO 2013 FPSSA SALE BARN With the newsleKer con*nuing to grow.
