From São Paulo’s state capital (155 miles) and the Rio de Janeiro’s capital (192 miles), the distance between Ubatuba and the two Brazilian metropolises are covered through an outstanding highway that connect to the “Tamoios Road” or “Osvaldo Cruz road” to reach the coast line. Located approximately 70 nautical miles from the port of Santos and 110 nautical miles from the port of Rio de Janeiro, the port of call of Ubatuba is on the right path for any cruise ship calling Rio de Janeiro, Santos or going down South America towards Cape Horn as an option for a relaxing, rich and cruise ship oriented port of call. The city was founded in 1637 and its Indian name means “site” where the feather of the “Ubás” a species of a local Sylvester bird was used by the local Indians to make arrows, although for some historians the name means “Land of many canoes” in the Guarani Indian language. Ubatub TENDER OP The receptive area offers all services to the cruise ship’s guest to ensure that sales people harass no guests. A waiting lounge, live music and a tourist information center with multilingual staff is available upon debark. All guests on pre-booked tours onboard the ship will find an easy dispatch system with all the vehicles and tour guides well organized and lined up to depart on time in the best efficient way possible. Anchieta, a paradisiacal island “The Anchieta Island” is a special place for the ecotourism and environmental protection that belongs to the “Ilha Anchieta State Park”. With 828 hectares, divided by seven beaches, makes the island the second biggest island in the state of São Paulo visited by tourists and re-searches from all over the world. Fishing and plant collection are strictly forbidden but the debarkation by visitors and recreational divers with no knifes and spears are allowed with a maximum access of 1.050 people a day. Tourists will find in the island the ruins of a former prison, self-guided trials, dozens of birds and animal’s species and infra-structure like bathrooms, barbecue area, showers and a first aid station. At sea the visibility runs from 2 to 10 meters (7 to 32 feet), unfolding an aquatic universe of seaweeds, stingrays, fishes, corals, sea turtles and reefs. In the museum of the marine life “Museu de vida marinha”, some of the famous attractions are the squeletons of Jubarte whales, sharks and dolphins. The “Ubatuba Aquarium” offers to its visitors the unique opportunity to get a real close look in the complex marine world with 12 salt water tanks (and the largest marine tank in Brazil with 22 thousand gallons), that represents not only the local fauna but some of the oceans in the world. Diving The high quality of Ubatuba’s dive shops offering dives for certified recreational divers and discover dive for beginners in a privileged region for scuba are international recognized with 40 dive spots offering different types of diving with famous spots located up to 21 miles from ashore like the “Couves Island”, “Rapada”, “Laje Grande”, “Cabras”, or “Anchieta”. Ideal conditions for recreational dive with depths varying from 5 to 30 meters (16 to 100 feet) and visibility up to 30 feet with a rich marine life, reefs and corals, diving in Ubatuba is an experience unforgettable for any diver. Ubatuba 14 Over 20 beaches are suitable for surfing, sport that becomes the city’s symbol. The city hosts dozens of championships through out the year and the “Itambuca beach” in the north region is one of the most important Brazilian beaches on the surf calendar, being the host of the city, state, national and international competitions. Sea turtle Preservation “Projeto Tamar”, a private project working in the protection of the Sea Turtle with its home base in the North of Brasil has in Ubatuba the only base of protecting Sea Turtle in the State of São Paulo. Working in an area of 39 thousand square feet, the visitor’s center also holds live Sea Turtles of four marine species. Ubatuba 15 Star Gastronomy The hundreds of restaurants and bars in the city offer a wide variety of culinary like the local dishe “Azul Marinho” a local recipe prepared with green bananas and a local fish.
