Welcome
The city of Ubatuba
Office of the Tourism Secretary
Ubatuba, SP - Brazil
Ahoy! Welcome to Ubatuba, the Tropical paradise!
W
hoever visits us for the first time gets speechless with the beauty
of our city offering an extremely beautiful 70 miles of coast
line that hosts over 100 beaches that goes from completely
unspoiled ones to beaches with full infra-structure.
Ubatuba lays right ahead of the amazing “Serra do Mar” that impresses
anyone with its high and green backdrops. The fact that we are located
practically inside the “Serra do Mar State Park” makes 82% of our
territory totally protected. We are also the home of 23 islands and the
most important “The beautiful Anchieta Island” which is also a State Park,
where your guest will find dozens of water falls and rivers, ecological
hiking tracks and many shore excursions like an unforgettable dive in
crystal clear waters or a face to face with authentic Indians “Guarani” or
a lunch in a local “Caiçara” village. The richness of our flora and fauna
makes Ubatuba one of the best places on earth for bird watching that
attracts “birdwatchers” from all over the planet.
But that is not it! Ubatuba is internationally recognized as the “Surfing
Capital”, hosting important competitions and even the world championship
and as the home of the only airport in the entire São Paulo’s North Coast;
Ubatuba also hosts national and international skydiving competitions,
recognized as one of the most beautiful places on earth for this sport.
Last but not least, Ubatuba mix preserved and exuberant nature, infrastructure and safety with many options for hotels, high quality culinary,
sports and entertainment.
Definitely it is time to let your cruise ship guest discover, explore and
enjoy Ubatuba as I am sure that they will be impressed with the natural
beauty of our city.

Ubatuba
and its location
U
batuba is practically located
between the two largest
Brazilian cities: São Paulo and
Rio de Janeiro. From São Paulo’s state
capital (155 miles) and the Rio de
Janeiro’s capital (192 miles), the distance
between Ubatuba and the two Brazilian
metropolises are covered through an
outstanding highway that connect to
the “Tamoios Road” or “Osvaldo Cruz
road” to reach the coast line.
Located approximately 70 nautical
miles from the port of Santos and 110
nautical miles from the port of Rio de
Janeiro, the port of call of Ubatuba is on
the right path for any cruise ship calling
Rio de Janeiro, Santos or going down
South America towards Cape Horn as
an option for a relaxing, rich and cruise
ship oriented port of call. Its position is
perfect for the 3 and 4 days mini-cruises
out of Santos.

Unspoiled
L
beaches and extremely exuberant nature!
ocated in São Paulo’s north coast,
Ubatuba has the largest coast line
of the State with a total of 110.54
miles. Its irregular geography allowed
different formations of beaches, inlets,
bays, islands and natural safe harbors.
With over 80% of its area protected,
Ubatuba is the only place in the Brazilian
coast where the “Mata Atlantic” touches
the sea, what guarantees paradisiacal
sights and always with a lot of green.
There are over 100 beaches, 92 in the
main land and 10 in the islands, but it
is not only the sea that Ubatuba can
offer to its visitors; dozens of water falls,
crystal clear rivers, eco hiking tracks,
amazing sights and gorgeous backdrops
hosted by the most preserved area of
“Mata Atlantica”.
Summer season starts here!
With 80 thousand inhabitants, Ubatuba
welcomes around 1.5 milion tourists and
summer home’s owner a year. Literally
the summer starts in Ubatuba, since the
city is the first in Brazil to receive the
sun’s wave on the first day of summer as
the “Capricorn line” crosses exactly in
Ubatuba’s downtown.
The city was founded in 1637 and its
Indian name means “site” where the
feather of the “Ubás” a species of a local
Sylvester bird was used by the local
Indians to make arrows, although for
some historians the name means “Land
of many canoes” in the Guarani Indian
language.
Also know as the “Surf capital”, Ubatuba
is the stage of many national and
international competitions. With different
wave’s formations and intensity, many
beaches are considered “heaven” by the
beginners, amateurs and professional
surfers.
80% of preserved area
The city has 274 square miles of area
and 80% are part of the “Serra do
Mar State Park”. Among many of the
Park’s ecosystems, the swamp, restinga
bushes and marine environment coast,
besides the tallest point “The Corcovado
Mountain” with 4.166 feet, where a 360
degree vision allows the visitor to see
the entire “Mata Atlantica” and Ubatuba
bay.

Brazil’s history and Ubatuba
Its history has many episodes linked directly to Brazil’s history like the first peace agreement in the Americas between
the Indians and the Whites that become
famous as the “Iperoig peace agreement”
Ubatuba keeps its history alive
The richness and the unique Ubatuba’s history are kept alive through historical sites
preserved by the city. The building “Paço da Nóbrega” protected as a city heritage
houses today the local house of representatives, the Ruins of the “Engenho da Lagoinha”
and its ruins from the 17th century and the “Sobradão do Porto Ubatuba” built in 1846
are some of the fine examples of Ubatuba’s history.
