Objectivos da unidade curricular e competências a desenvolver:
Esta unidade curricular aborda a especificidade da evolução da produção
arquitectónica na Europa ocidental entre os séculos XV e XVIII.
Objectivos:
1. Dar a conhecer as linhas de força da arquitectura produzida na Europa
ocidental durante a Época Moderna, em articulação sistemática com o
respectivo contexto histórico.
2. Verificar a evolução da teoria da arquitectura e do estatuto profissional dos
arquitectos.
3. Proporcionar a identificação e utilização adequada das fontes de informação
para o conhecimento da arquitectura europeia.
Competências:
- Identificar os principais aspectos da evolução da arquitectura.
- Demonstrar capacidade de reconhecimento, compreensão e interpretação
crítica dos temas.
- Compreender os contextos histórico-culturais e a sua interacção com a obra
construída.
- Desenvolver capacidade de observação e de leitura das obras de arquitectura
nos aspectos espaciais, construtivo e estético.
- Desenvolver métodos adequados de recolha, organização e síntese de
informação
Objectives of the curricular unit and competences to be developed:
This course addresses the specificity of the evolution of architectural production
in Western Europe between the fifteenth and eighteenth centuries.
Objectives:
- To know the main aspects of the architecture produced in western Europe in
the Modern Age, systematically in conjunction with their historical context.
- To verify the evolution of the theory of architecture professional status of
architects.
- Provide identification and appropriate use of information sources for
knowledge of European architecture.
Students should be able to:
- Identify key aspects of the evolution of architecture.
- Demonstrate ability of recognition, understanding and critical interpretation of
the issues under study.
- Understand the historical and cultural contexts and their interaction with the
architectural works.
- Develop skills of observation and reading the works of architecture in the
spatial, constructive and aesthetic aspects.
- Develop appropriate methods for collecting, organizing and synthesizing
information.

Demonstração da coerência dos conteúdos programáticos com os
objectivos da unidade curricular:
Os conteúdos programáticos foram definidos em função do primeiro objectivo
da unidade curricular. O segundo objectivo é garantido pela na abordagem
presente na maioria dos diversos módulos, em especial nos módulos 3-5 e 1214. Finalmente, o terceiro objectivo é assegurado pelas aulas, em termos
gerais, e pelos trabalhos práticos, em particular.
Demonstration of the syllabus coherence with the curricular unit's
objectives:
The syllabus was established according to the first curricular unit’s objective.
The second objective is ensured in the approach present in most of the various
modules, especially in the modules 3-5 and 12-14. Finally, the third objective is
provided by the lessons, in general, and the practical work, in particular.
Metodologias de ensino (avaliação incluída):
A cadeira será leccionada em módulos semanais de aulas teóricas e práticas.
As aulas teóricas decorrerão nas instalações da Universidade, sendo apoiadas
pela projecção de imagens. As aulas práticas consistirão em visitas de estudo e
em sessões na Biblioteca do CRB, para apoio e orientação da pesquisa
bibliográfica necessária à realização dos trabalhos práticos; estes consistem na
pesquisa e síntese relativamente a obras relevantes da arquitectura europeia
ou a arquitectos das épocas abordadas, visando o desenvolvimento de
competências ao nível dos métodos de recolha e organização da informação,
bem como da capacidade de síntese.
A avaliação assenta nos seguintes elementos: prova escrita (70%) + 1 trabalho
prático (30%).
Teaching methodologies (including evaluation):
The course modules will be taught in weekly lectures and practical lessons. The
lectures will take place at the University and supported by the projection of
images. Practical lessons will consist of visits to monuments and meetings in
the Library of CRB, in order to give support and guidance to the literature
necessary for the achievement of practical works, consisting of research and
synthesis on the relevant works of European architecture and the architects,
aiming the development of skills in the methods of collecting and organizing
information, as well as the capacity for synthesis. The assessment relied on the
following: written exam (70%) + 1 practical assignment (30%).

objectivos da unidade curricular.
As metodologias de ensino são coerentes com os objectivos da unidade
curricular dado que a metodologia expositiva associada à componente prática
assegura a compreensão adequada dos principais aspectos da arquitectura
produzida na Europa ocidental durante a Época Moderna e da evolução da
teoria da arquitectura e do estatuto dos arquitectos, o conhecimento das
diversas perspectivas historiográficas e o conhecimento das fontes de
informação relativas à arquitectura europeia. A opção pela realização de
trabalhos práticos e de visitas de estudo reforça o desenvolvimento de
capacidades de observação e de leitura das obras de arquitectura nos
aspectos espaciais, construtivo e estético, bem como a construção de um
discurso sobre os temas abordados na unidade curricular.
Demonstration of the teaching methodologies coherence with the
curricular unit’s objectives.
The teaching methodologies are consistent with the objectives of the course as
the methodology associated with the component expository practice ensures a
proper understanding of the key aspects of the architecture produced in
Western Europe in the Modern Age and the evolution of the theory of
architecture and status of architects, knowledge of historiographical
perspectives and knowledge of information sources on the European
architecture. The option for practical work and study visits strengthens the
development of the capacity of observation and of reading the architectural
works in the spatial, constructive and aesthetic aspects as well as the
construction of a discourse on the topics covered in the course.
