Albert Keyack is the Intellectual Property Attaché to the Latin American Region.
Albert joined the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and was
sworn in as a Foreign Commercial Service Officer by the Department of
Commerce in 2011. Mr. Keyack began his career in 1987 at the Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania law firm of Woodcock Washburn, where he practice included both
patent prosecution and litigation. In 1997, he took a position at a medical device
company in Silicon Valley in California. After a successful sale of the company,
he spent the next ten years in law firms and as in house counsel. During this
time, Albert represented clients in matters involving patent and trademark
prosecution, numerous types of intellectual property litigation and was also
involved in a variety of transactional matters such as licensing, financing and
acquisitions. Prior to joining the USPTO, Mr. Keyack worked for a venture capital
fund and managed both the intellectual property and the general legal matters for
the fund’s portfolio companies. Mr. Keyack earned a degree in Mechanical
Engineering from Villanova University and a law degree from the Rutgers
University School of Law. He is licensed to practice law in Pennsylvania and is a
registered patent attorney. He has spoken extensively on a wide range of
intellectual property topics in the US, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia and China. Albert
lives in Rio de Janeiro with his wife and two daughters.

Latina. Albert aderiu aos quadros do United States Patent and Trademark Office
(USPTO) e foi empossado como Diretor de Serviço Comercial Internacional pelo
Departamento de Comércio em 2011. O Sr. Keyack iniciou sua carreira em
1987, no escritório de advocacia Woodcock Washburn (Filadélfia, Pensilvânia),
onde se dedicava a processos administrativos e contensiosos de patentes, entre
outras áreas. Em 1997, ele assumiu um cargo em uma empresa de dispositivos
médicos no Vale do Silício, Califórnia. Após a bem-sucedida venda da empresa,
ele atuou em escritórios de advocacia e como funcionário de empresas por dez
anos. Nesse período, Albert representou clientes em questões envolvendo
registro de patentes e marcas, vários tipos de litígios de propriedade intelectual,
e também em uma variedade de questões transacionais, como financiamento,
licenciamento e aquisições. Antes de se juntar ao USPTO, o Sr. Keyack
trabalhou para um fundo de capital de risco e era encarregado de questões
jurídicas e de propriedade intelectual das empresas pertencentes ao portfólio do
fundo. O sr. Keyack se formou em Engenharia Mecânica pela Villanova
University e é bacharel em Direito pela Faculdade de Direito da Rutgers
University. Ele é licenciado para a prática do Direito no Estado da Pensilvânia e
é advogado de patentes registrado. Ele palestrou em inúmeros eventos de
distintos campos da propriedade intelectual no Brasil, Estados Unidos, México,
Colômbia e China. Ele reside no Rio de Janeiro com sua mulher e duas filhas.
