Gerardo e Giorgio Serena Looking for a new identity Wine is history, tradition and method. But it is also research, a coming together of new trends in order to promote aggregation, particularly amongst young people who find it difficult to emerge in a society still linked to protectionism. Vinicola Serena’s young people, Luca and Chiara are dealing with new marketing strategies, whilst one is highlighting alternative products, the so-called “mixtures”, by taking part in important trade fairs and events overseas, the other is involving young students from Venice’s historic “Academy of Fine Arts” in an innovative and interesting advertising project. Our De Vilmont Champagne is also up and coming, thanks to overseas tastings, dinners and social events in restaurants, pubs and bars and its being present in the renowned Cooking Cup regatta. These are new and dynamic initiatives which make the Serena family feel vibrant and give us a boost of faith for the future! An important collaboration between Vinicola Serena and Venice’s Academy of Fine Arts To create a real advertising project dedicated in promoting the “Terra Serena” Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore Docg Spumante. This was the task assigned to the young students of Venice’s Academy of Fine Arts who took part in a workshop devised by Vinicola Serena on June 14th and 15th in collaboration with Professor Mario Pasquotto, lecturer of the “New art technology” course at the Academy. Illustrating this particular case study were Chiara Serena, the winery’s head of marketing and Sandro Comini, creative director of the Unidea agency of Udine, who have been conceiving communication for Vinicola Serena for more than twenty years. Starting with the assumption that advertising is an art form, students tried their hands at creating unusual and captivating graphic works, giving life to highly creative compositions, with a strong innovative spirit whilst being just a little Trovate le foto e il video del Workshop sul sito www.vinicolaserena.com provocative, in Photos and video of the workshop are available on www.vinicolaserena.com accordance with Fotos und Video des Workshops sind auf der Website www.vinicolaserena.com verfügbar their personality. “The event was an important occasion not only for the young people, who have been able to have direct contact with the reality of a company”, comments Chiara Serena - “but also for Vinicola Serena itself, which has always been an attentive supporter of the younger generation, offering them the opportunity of coming closer to the world of advertising and illuminating their creative capabilities, by creating something which in the future could become the jewel in the crown of our communication”. For the time being, the more than 30 works collected will be evaluated by the organisers and the first five will be awarded with a guided tour first of the historic Vinicola Serena headquarters in Conegliano and of its guest quarters at Ville d’Arfanta, followed by a visit to the Unidea advertising and marketing agency. Export: development and the future Forever affiliated and cohesive in reaching its goals, Vinicola Serena’s export team continues to reap one success after another. If the beginning of the year saw it involved in the promotion of its wines and in the restyling of the “Terra Serena” line during the most important trade fairs (Vinitaly, Prowein and Vinisud naming just the more noteworthy among them), the second half of the year has been entirely devoted to consolidating current customer relations and developing the contacts made during the afore-mentioned trade fairs. “Well organised and programmed according to a precise strategy, trade fairs are an ideal instrument in which to gather and develop contacts, but also to promote our products throughout a country”, Giovanni Matia Pianca, from Vinicola Serena’s export department explains, “our being present personally allows us to obtain even more useful and in-depth information about a place, and to receive particularly significant feedback, with the aim of widening the company’s network”. A network which for 2012, is being led by Prosecco, a real star in the new markets which have seen Vinicola Serena rise dominantly. Great Britain, Sweden, Poland and Russia. Besides the prosecco promotion, Vinicola Serena is also committed in the launch of new and important projects: “We don’t want Vinicola Serena just to be recognisable abroad for its excellent prosecco, ”Giovanni Matia Pianca continues,“ our aim is to strengthen the culture and consequent distribution of cask wines, which are our company’s core business. Markets in which this type of wine is becoming continually more popular are the more traditional ones of Germany, Holland and Belgium, but also Austria and the Eastern European countries with Romania, the Czech Republic and the Baltics in the forefront”. For the future, cask wine promises to be a winning idea not only in the conservation of the product itself, which is maintained fresh and enjoyable, but particularly for the optimization of costs: cask wine costs are a real technology of service to the customer who, ever watchful of costs, can enjoy considerable advantages. It is therefore the winery’s task to interpret market needs in the best possible way, by creating new ways of co-operation with both current and future partners. The installation at Vinicola Serena’s production department of the “One Way” cask filling machine, is perfectly in tune with this idea, a practical solution in recyclable plastic able to contain 20 litres and ideal both for still and sparkling wines. It is these latter wines in particular which promise to be the winning card for the overseas markets of the USA and South America, but also in Asia and the Far East - under the cask wine project. So it is therefore a double challenge for Vinicola Serena: on the one hand to consolidate and enlarge its position reached with bottled wine, and on the other to introduce the culture of cask wine to those markets outside European borders. “We are very satisfied with the success achieved so far”, Luca Serena, export manager at Vinicola Serena concludes, “thanks particularly to the capabilities of the overseas team made up of Giovanni Matia Pianca, Sabine Leibbrandt and Valentina Coan, as well as those of our colleagues in the field, who are able to offer the quick and precise service, that sets Vinicola Serena apart. And we are moving in this sense too, placing company representatives worldwide”. Sparkling whites and Sparkling fantasy wines: it’s a matter of cocktails Sparkling wines and bubbles have always been widely appreciated by consumers, continually searching for new and imaginative tastes to try. And so Prosecco, this year’s true sensation, which is noticing extraordinary growth trends, becoming the world’s number one export wine, and more and more often flanked by the so-called Sparkling whites and Sparkling fantasy wines. These are wines which are easy to drink and are suitable for a number of uses: having abandoned their role as a simple “aperitif with bubbles”, they are being used more and more in the creation of the latest cocktail mixes, such as the famous Spritz, the Hugo (with elderberry juice), the Bicycle (with orange juice) and many others. The numbers speak for themselves: if in 2012 Prosecco registered a 10% growth, mainly overseas, sales of sparkling wines and sparkling fantasy wines have rocketed, even exceeding a 30% growth. This is a market trend that Vinicola Serena has been following carefully for a number of years, with the intent of satisfying the needs of operators looking for a sparkling wine, that is suitable both for informal ready to be served wines, and for the creation of tasty mixes. As a result, within the “Terra Serena” line wines such as Profizz and Prodigiò, charismatic wines beginning with their names, have come to fruition. Profizz is a sparkling white wine created mainly for the German market although a good seller in Austria, Poland and the Czech Republic too, so much so that it has already registered a 50% increase in sales in the first six months of 2012, being characterised by the practicality of an easy opening and closing screw tap. Prodigiò, which has recently registered a growth of more than 25%, is commanding the Italian market as a “cheap” alternative to the Vinicola Serena prosecco range. Being able to satisfy the numerous and varied needs of clients, Prodigiò has now become a true reference point for wholesalers. In this context, we certainly shouldn’t forget the “Terra Serena” Rosè Spumante Extra Dry, a wine which lends itself as an aperitif and which, thanks to its unique characteristics, is conquering an important market position abroad with Austria and the Baltics in the forefront. Another magnificent evening was that organised by Gricelda Dahlgren, De Vilmont brand manager for Denmark together with the Scandinavian Wine Society Event. During the gala dinner for the Copenhagen Ladies Wine Society, each dish was in fact matched with a De Vilmont champagne. Finally, during the recent hot summer, De Vilmont took the length with the Cooking Cup, a renowned regatta in which boats challenge each other both in speed and in the culinary abilities of the chefs onboard.
