Ernst & Young’s Eurozone Spring Forecast (EEF) is predicting a slow return to growth in 2013 after a mild recession in 2012 (-0,5%). For Luxembourg, the latest forecast predicts an average growth over 3 % for the years 2013-2016. Alain Kinsch, Country Managing Partner of Ernst & Young Luxembourg says that “we are not drowning, but we are not saved yet either”. (...) London and New York are not untouchable lff.lu, 29/03/12 London comes out first in the latest Global Financial Centres Index, ahead of New York and Hong Kong. The GFCI is published by the initiative Long Finance and tracks competitiveness amongst 77 international financial hubs. Whilst Asian centres have declined, their overall trend is upward. The capital cities of the weaker Eurozone members like Dublin and Milan have suffered. The good news for Luxembourg is that it is moving up significantly in the ranks. (...) (...) Nouvel emprunt obligataire 2,25% 2012-2022 mf.public.lu, 12/03/12 The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg successfully returned to the Euro Debt capital markets on Monday March 12th, 2012, with a EUR 1 billion institutional benchmark transaction, maturing on 21 March 2022 and paying a coupon of 2.25%. Joint bookrunners on this transaction were BCEE, BGL BNP PARIBAS, BIL and SGCIB. (...) Mediawatch march 2012 March 2012 LUXEMBOURG FINANCIAL CENTRE IN THE INTERNATIONAL PRESS 4|5 UK/US Luxembourg faces EU rap on investment rules ft.com, 25/03/12 Luxembourg, the main home for one of Europe’s most popular investment products, is to be singled out as a regulatory weak link in an unusually undiplomatic European Commission proposal. A draft paper on Ucits cross-border investment funds unfavourably compares Luxembourg’s rules to those in France, a direct criticism rarely seen in Brussels proposals, which typically avoid naming member states when highlighting flaws. This assessment is politically sensitive because it echoes French criticisms in the wake of the 2008 Madoff fraud, in which several Luxembourg-based Ucits funds funnelled money to the Ponzi scheme. (...) All you need is Lux international-adviser.com, 21/03/12 Luxembourg has built a reputation for quality in the global fund industry. It is one of the few remaining eurozone countries with a AAA rating. Its lengthy history as a fund domicile has brought the infrastructure to cope with the increasingly complex demands of fund administration, and it has proved itself both pragmatic and rigorous in adapting to regulatory changes. But might its competitiveness wane as the European Union imposes increasingly stringent legislation on the mutual fund sector, including – potentially – a Financial Transaction Tax? Last year was a weak period for Luxembourg relative to its main competitor, Dublin. The jurisdiction had €2,059bn ($2,718bn) under management in locally-domiciled investment funds at the end of November 2011, according to the Association of the Luxembourg Fund Industry (ALFI). (...) Luxembourg adopts ‘AIFMD-ready’ amended SIF legislation hedgeweek.com, 16/03/12 Luxembourg’s Parliament has adopted on 6 March legislation amending the February 2007 law on Specialised Investment Funds, adapting the highly successful SIF regime to European and international developments regarding regulation and transparency of alternative investments. (...) Luxembourg to price Euro 10-year bond at swaps +0.06 foxbusiness.com, 12/03/12 Luxembourg is to price its 10-year, euro-denominated bond at six basis points over midswaps, one of the banks running the deal said Monday. This is one basis point tighter than revised pricing, which had come in from initial guidance of 8-10 basis points. The bond size is likely to be around EUR1 billion, one of the banks said. (...) (...) turkey Luxembourg eyes vast market in Turkey and beyond, Ambassador Conzemius says todayszaman.com, 05/03/12 Luxembourg’s ambassador to Turkey, Arlette Conzemius, has said that Turkey is an important country, not only as a vast consumer market but also a gateway to the larger markets in its immediate neighborhood, from the Balkans to the Middle East. “Turkey is a big market for Luxembourg, but also stands as a point of entry into neighboring regions, such as the Balkans, the Caucasus and the Middle East. Luxembourg’s decision to open an embassy in Turkey is very much connected with the ability to access the whole region from here, as well as developing bilateral ties with Turkey,” said Conzemius, who was accredited as Luxembourg’s first ambassador to Turkey in September 2011, in an exclusive interview with Today’s Zaman last week.
