VECCHIA VIA DELLE CARTIERE
Da piazza Caduti – Via Trieste si sale a destra
per il sentiero panoramico di Piè Costa fino
all’incrocio, si sale a sinistra per via Firenze
fino sulla strada comunale dove troviamo il
trittico della santella. Di fronte si sale dalle
fontane per una scalinata fino sulla strada
comunale sopra Pulciano, si gira a sinistra e si
percorre la vecchia strada asfaltata per Gaino
per circa 200 mt fino al tornante. Si lascia
la strada comunale e si imbocca a sinistra la
vecchia strada delle Cartiere, dove nel 1700
a dorso di mulo si portava la carta fino al
piccolo porticciolo di Toscolano.
Si arriva poco dopo sulla nuova strada
comunale per Gaino, dopo circa 100 mt
terminata la curva si gira a sinistra per una
strada sterrata pianeggiante fino al bivio per
il sentiero che scende a sinistra per Valle delle Cartiere – località Maina.
Si gira a sinistra e si percorre a ritroso il fiume Toscolano che scorre sulla nostra destra fino al
nuovo museo della Carta (consigliata una visita), per ritornare a Piazza Caduti attraversando il
centro storico di Toscolano.

Von Piazza Caduti – Via Trieste gehen Sie
rechts den Panoramaweg „Piè Costa” bis zur
Kreuzung hinauf . Biegen Sie links in Via Firenze
ein und hinauf bis zur Gemeindestraße, auf
der Sie das Triptychon der Kapelle vorfinden.
Am gegenüberliegenden Brunnen steigen Sie
eine Treppe hinauf, die zur Gemeindestraße
über dem Ort Pulciano führt. Biegen Sie nach
links in die alte Straße der Papierfabriken
ab, auf der im 18.Jh. das Papier auf einem
Maulesel bis zum kleinen Hafen von Toscolano
gebracht wurde. Kurz danach kommen Sie zur
neuen Gemeindestraße, die nach Gaino führt.
Nach ca. 100m, am Ende der Kurve, biegen
Sie nach links in eine flache Schotterstraße
ab und gehen Sie bis zur Kreuzung mit dem
Weg, der Sie links ins Tal der Papierfabriken
hinunterführt – bis zur Ortschaft Maina. Biegen Sie nach links ab und gehen Sie am Fluss
Toscolano zurück, der auf Ihrer rechten Seite fließt, bis zum „Centro di Eccellenza“ (ein Besuch
ist empfehlenswert) und von hier gehen Sie durch das historische Zentrum von Toscolano bis zur
Piazza Caduti zurück.

ANCIENT VIA DELLE CARTIERE
From Piazza Caduti – Via Trieste walk up to
the right along the panoramic path of Piè
Costa as far as the crossroads, then go up to
the left along Via Firenze until you get to the
votive shrine with the tryptich on the council
road . From the fountains in front of it go
up the staircase to reach the council road
above Pulciano, turn left and walk along the
old asphalt road to Gaino for about 200 mt.,
as far as the bend. Leave the council road
and take the ancient route of the papermills,
which was used in 1700 to carry the paper on
mules to the small port of Toscolano.
Soon after you reach the new council road to
Gaino. Walk for about 100 mt. and turn left
after the bend into a level dirt road. Go on as
far as the crossroads where the path on the
left goes downhill to the Valley of the Papermills – Maina. Turn left and follow upstream the river
Toscolano , which flows on your right, as far as the new “Museo della Carta” (a visit is suggested).
Then make your way back to Piazza Caduti through the historical centre of Toscolano.
