FA Women’s Cup
heads to Coventry
The Football Association is proud to announce that The Ricoh Arena, home of Coventry City
FC, will be the venue for The FA Women’s Cup sponsored by E.ON 2011 Final.
Last year, Everton beat Arsenal 3-2 after extra time to lift the trophy in a thrilling Final at The
City Ground in front of over 17,000 fans. It is hoped the match, taking place on Saturday 21
May, will attract the best ever attendance for a domestic women’s game in England. A crowd
of 29,092 watched England’s victory against Finland at The City of Manchester Stadium in
2005 and this is still a record for a women’s match in England. The Ricoh Arena has a capacity
of 32,609 and this will be the first time that The FA Women’s Cup Final has taken place at the
stadium.
The 2011 Final will be the fifth one played under the sponsorship of E.ON and forms one part
of a wider partnership the energy company has with The FA. E.ON also sponsor The FA Cup
and The FA Youth Cup.
Sue Hough, Chair of The FA Women’s Committee, said: “We are very pleased to be taking this
year’s Final to The Ricoh Arena for the first time. It is a fantastic stadium with brilliant facilities
and a proven track record in hosting matches with The FA. We are delighted to be working
with them on the 2011 Final. We hope fans, families and teams from across the region, and
across the country as a whole, will help us set a new record Cup Final attendance this coming
May in Coventry.
“The 2011 Final will follow the launch of The FA WSL, our brand new summer league for
women’s football. We also have the UEFA Women’s Champions League Final at Fulham’s
Craven Cottage at the end of May and then our England Women’s team will travel to Germany
for the FIFA Women’s World Cup in what will be a massive and exciting year for women’s
football in this country.”

WSL fixtures confirmed
The first half of the fixture list for the inaugural FA WSL season has been confirmed, with the
new league kicking off on Thursday 14 April 2011. There are two stand-out fixtures in the first
round of games as Chelsea entertain Arsenal while there is a Merseyside derby to look
forward to on the same night as FA Women’s Cup holders Everton travel to neighbours
Liverpool. The remaining two opening day matches comprises a trip to the Midlands for Bristol
Academy where they will take on Birmingham and Lincoln Ladies will host Doncaster Rovers
Belles.
Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 April sees a full set of weekend games and a lot of attention will be
focused on Boreham Wood on the Sunday as Arsenal and Everton, first and second in last
season’s FA Women’s Premier League (National Division), collide. Arsenal and Chelsea’s first
matches, up to and including Thursday 12 May, are listed below.
The FA WSL will be a semi-professional, competitive, sustainable and commercially attractive
summer league at the top of women’s football in this country. Consisting of eight teams, it will
run from April to August, with a break for the World Cup, and five live matches will be
broadcast live on ESPN throughout that period.
