Eine Heterotopie ist ein Ort, der symptomatisch ein gesellschaftliches Verhältnis
reflektiert. Als vor über 20 Jahren der Bau an einem Hochhaus in Caracas, Venezuela
abgebrochen wird, ahnt niemand, dass dieses Gebäude einmal das höchste besetzte
Haus der Welt werden würde. Ein empirisch, fraktaler Blick in den Alltag, die Struktur
und die Gedankenwelt der Einwohner führt einen Dialog mit der Architektur des
Turms, der einst als Finanzzentrum konzipiert worden war und nun einer
Parallelgesellschaft Unterkunft bietet.

photographed by Boris Kaufman. The film depicts life in Nice, France by documenting
the people in the city, their daily routines, a carnival and social inequalities. Vigo
described the film in an address to the Groupement des Spectateurs d'Avant-Garde:

Andermatt, Global Village, Leonidas Bieri , 2014 1 h 30 min
Andermatt is a pleasant farming village in Switzerland. Never really a tourist spot, in
part because it had an army base during the Cold War. The army site that became
available was bought by the Egyptian investor Samih Sawiris, who is turning it into a
golf and ski resort: six luxury hotels, 490 apartments, 25 chalets, 18-hole golf course
and, not to forget, heated ski lifts. The whole development is many times bigger than
the village itself. The film-makers spend seven years following the project, recording
the changes among the local population and their gradual acceptance of the strange
new global village that emerges beside them.

Nach "Parabeton" und "Perret in Frankreich und Algerien" ist "Aufbruch der
Moderne" der dritte Teil der Filmreihe "The Airstrip" sowie gleichzeitig der 21. Teil
der Serie "Photographie und jenseits" des Künstlers und Filmemachers Heinz
Emigholz. Er bezeichnet seine Serie als eine „Sammlung von frei kombinierbaren
Filmen, die sich mit Produkten menschlicher Gestaltung befassen“. Dabei beschäftigt
sich Emigholz mit der Entstehung, dem Triumph und dem Zerfall der
architektonischen Moderne.
Imagine an airspace into which a bomb has been dropped. The bomb has not reached

Safety Last! is a 1923 romantic comedy silent film starring Harold Lloyd. It includes
one of the most famous images from the silent film era: Lloyd clutching the hands of
a large clock as he dangles from the outside of a skyscraper above moving traffic. The
film was highly successful and critically hailed, and it cemented Lloyd's status as a
major figure in early motion pictures. It is still popular at revivals, and it is viewed
today as one of the great film comedies.

Night on Earth, Jim Jarmusch, 1991, 1 h 23 min
Night on Earth ist ein US-amerikanischer Episodenfilm von Jim Jarmusch, in dem fünf
Geschichten erzählt werden. Die Geschichten geschehen an fünf Orten der Welt, alle
in derselben Nacht, zur selben Zeit, jedoch in unterschiedlichen Zeitzonen. Die Städte
sind Los Angeles, New York, Paris, Rom und Helsinki. In jeder der fünf Städte ist ein
Taxifahrer bzw. eine Taxifahrerin unterwegs, der bzw. die in das Schicksal ihrer
Fahrgäste eingreift oder deren Fahrgäste das Schicksal der Fahrer beeinflussen. Die
Episoden wurden in den jeweiligen Landessprachen gedreht und dauern jeweils etwa
25 Minuten. Night On Earth wurde nicht synchronisiert, sondern untertitelt, um die
jeweilige landesspezifische Stimmung wiederzugeben.
Le Mepris, Jean Luc Godard, 1963 1 h 39 min
French satirical drama film written and directed by Jean-Luc Godard, based on the
Italian novel Il disprezzo ("A Ghost at Noon") by Alberto Moravia.[3] It stars Brigitte
Bardot, Michel Piccoli, Jack Palance, and Giorgia Moll. Le Mépris was filmed in and
occurs entirely in Italy, with location shooting at the Cinecittà studios in Rome and
the Casa Malaparte on Capri island. In a notable sequence, the characters played by
Piccoli and Bardot wander through their apartment alternately arguing and
reconciling. Godard filmed the scene as an extended series of tracking shots, in
natural light and in near real-time. The cinematographer, Raoul Coutard, shot some
of the seminal films of the Nouvelle Vague, including Godard's Breathless. According
to Jonathan Rosenbaum, Godard was also directly influenced by Jean-Daniel Pollet
and Volker Schlöndorff's Méditerranée, released earlier the same year.
The belly of an architect, Peter Greenaway, 1990, 1h 85 min
The American architect Stourley Kracklite has been commissioned to construct an
exhibition in Rome dedicated to the architecture of Etienne-Louis Boullée. Doubts
arise among his Italian colleagues about the legitimacy of Boullée among the
pantheon of famed architects, perhaps because Boullée was an inspiration for Adolf
Hitler's architect Albert Speer. Tirelessly dedicated to the project, Kracklite's marriage
deteriorates, along with his health. His social and physical decline corresponds to the
decline of his idol Boullée, who until the 20th century was hardly known. Kracklite
becomes obsessed with the historical Caesar Augustus after hearing that Livia, his
wife, supposedly poisoned him. Kracklite assumes that his own wife, Louisa, is trying
to do the same because he is suffering increasing stomach pains. She informs him
that she is pregnant, and is sexually involved with the younger co-organiser of the
exhibition. He discovers that he has a stomach cancer and has not long to live. The
film ends at opening ceremony, which Kracklite watches from a higher vantage point.
Louisa gives birth to their child, and Kracklite jumps to his death.
A Single Man, Tom Ford 2009, 1 h 39 min
A Single Man (übersetzt Ein alleinstehender Mann) ist ein US-amerikanisches
Filmdrama und gleichzeitig das Regiedebüt des Modedesigners Tom Ford aus dem
Jahr 2009. Der Spielfilm ist die Verfilmung von Christopher Isherwoods
gleichnamigem Roman A Single Man. Der Film handelt von einem homosexuellen
Collegeprofessor, der nach dem plötzlichen Tod seines langjährigen Partners seinen
Selbstmord plant. Die Hauptrollen spielen Colin Firth und Julianne Moore und
natürlich das Haus von Architekt John Lautner.

Der Film spielt in einem für die 1960er Jahre futuristisch wirkenden Paris, das nur noch aus
einheitlichen Glas- und Stahlkonstruktionen besteht. Die Filmfigur Monsieur Hulot – wie in
seinen anderen Filmen dargestellt durch Jacques Tati selbst – ist auf der Suche nach einem
Monsieur Giffard. Er sucht ihn in seinem Büro auf, aber durch eine Vielzahl von
Missgeschicken verpassen sie sich ständig. Hulots Weg kreuzt sich dabei immer wieder mit
einer Busreisegruppe, die Paris besucht und dabei nur in dieser Hochhauswelt herumgeführt
wird, die überall sonst auch nicht nur stehen könnte, sondern schon wirklich steht, wie in
einem Reisebüro anhand der Werbefotografien zu erkennen ist: Jedes Reiseziel wirbt mit
dem gleichen Hochhausfoto, das nur durch einige touristische Versatzstücke aufgehübscht
wird. Die moderne Welt gleicht sich bis zur Austauschbarkeit.

Liebe in der Stadt (L'Amore in Città ) 1953, 1 h 45min
Prostituierte, Heiratsvermittler, hoffnungsvolle Liebhaber, selbstmordgefährdete
Frauen und alleinerziehende Mütter, die ihren Idealen folgen. In Rom zeigen sich
Liebe und Leid in allen Facetten. Für die einen ist sie ein Fluch, für die anderen
erweist sie sich als Segen. Die einen ziehen ihre Kräfte und Inspiration aus ihr, die
anderen sehen in ihr ein lukratives Geschäft.
1953 realisierte der italienische Produzent und Drehbuchautor Cesare Zavattini ein
bis dahin einmaliges Filmprojekt: Unter dem Motto „Liebe in der Stadt“ fasste er
sechs eigens produzierte Kurzfilme namhafter italienischer Regisseure, darunter
Federico Fellini und Michelangelo Antonioni, zu einem Gesamtwerk zusammen.
Liebe (L’eclisse) 1962, 2hrs
Vittoria arbeitet als Übersetzerin in Rom. Nach einer durchstrittenen Nacht verlässt
sie ihren langjährigen Freund Riccardo. Sie trifft ihre Mutter, die an der Börse als
Spekulantin ihr Glück versucht. Dort lernt Vittoria den jungen Börsenmakler Piero
kennen. Piero ist ebenso ziellos wie Vittoria, hat kein eigenes Zuhause, lebt
manchmal bei den Eltern oder übernachtet im Büro. Den Handel an der Börse
betrachtet er als Sport. Langsam und einsilbig beginnen sie eine Beziehung, da sie
glauben, dass ihr beiderseitiges Gefühl von Verlorenheit sie miteinander verbindet.
Doch das Gefühl, das sie meinen füreinander zu empfinden, trügt; ihr Verlorensein ist
stärker als die Liebe füreinander. Sie verabreden sich, doch keiner von beiden
erscheint zum vereinbarten Zeitpunkt. Der Film endet mit einer mehrere Minuten
langen Abfolge von Einstellungen, die den menschenleeren Ort ihrer Verabredung
zeigen, während die Dunkelheit des Filmtitels („L’eclisse“ = dt. „Finsternis“)
hereinbricht.
Die Rote Wüste (Il deserto rosso) 1964, 1 h 52 min
inmitten von Ravennas Hochöfen, Silos, Maschinenhallen und Hafenanlagen lebt die
sensible Giuliana mit ihrem Mann, einem Ingenieur, und ihrem kleinen Sohn. Die in
ihrer Zweckmäßigkeit, Kälte und Unpersönlichkeit abschreckende Umgebung und die
Unfähigkeit, sich diesen Lebensumständen beruflich und sozial so anzupassen wie ihr
Mann, riefen bei der jungen Frau eine Neurose hervor. Wachträume,
Zwangsvorstellungen und die tiefgreifende Angst vor der inneren Leere bringen
Giuliana in eine verzweifelte Lage. Ein Selbstmordversuch (vor Beginn der Handlung)
schlug fehl, hilflos und unverständig steht Ugo den Nöten seiner Frau gegenüber. Nur
Corrado, ein Freund Ugos, scheint für sie Verständnis zu haben. Ein kurzes, aber
leidenschaftliches Liebesverhältnis zu Corrado stürzt Giuliana in noch größere
Verwirrung

relationship. After all, Po-Wing is not ready to settle down. Yiu-Fai now works in a
Chinese restaurant and meets the youthful Chang from Taiwan. Yiu-Fai's life takes on
a new spin, while Po-Wing's life shatters continually in contrast.
