With Vivienne Mackinder and Mary Brunetti directing, these artists came together to give life to five iconic styles that
would be recognized as “American” anywhere on the planet.
“As Mary Brunetti and I discussed the vision for ‘American Style,’ I realized how certain looks, let’s call them fashion
memes, developed from American culture and history. These memes became the building blocks for the collection,”
says Vivienne Mackinder.
“Every stylist working in America and Canada uses these memes, consciously or not, in the salon,” notes Mackinder.
“These looks comprise the fundamental American look. I hope this collection will help stylists recognize what is often an
automatic styling response. Then they will be able to add value to their work by offering clients a more conscious and
refined style.”
“American style developed out of the westward-moving frontier and the demands it placed on women, demands that had
them trading their crinolines in for more rugged attire,” says Mary Brunetti. “The result was the emergence of a less formal
and slightly androgynous American style.
Later, iconic women such as Katharine Hepburn and Lauren Bacall defined an American fashion sense, pairing trousers with
soft satin blouses a contradictory mix of textures, masculine yet soft, sexy but strong.”
“Lauren Hutton took it a step further in her “Charlie” fragrance campaign, sending the message to the global fashion
community that androgyny and a strong, confident American style was here to stay,” concludes Brunetti.
“The contributions of the Americas to international style may often be underrated or taken for granted on the global stage,”
concludes Mackinder.
“But, its culture is truly fascinating, as is its influence on music, cinema, and the ever-changing world of fashion.”

Unter der Leitung von Vivienne Mackinder und Mary Brunetti kamen diese Künstler zusammen, um fünf Kultstilen Leben einzuhauchen, die überall
auf der Welt als „amerikanisch” identifiziert werden würden.
„Im Gespräch mit Mary Brunetti über die Vision für ‘American Style’ fiel mir auf, wie bestimmte Looks sich aus der Kultur und der Geschichte
Amerikas entwickelt haben. Sie waren quasi Gedankeneinheiten zum Thema Mode. Diese Gedankeneinheiten wurden zu Bausteinen dieser
Kollektion“, erklärt Vivienne Mackinder.
„Alle amerikanischen und kanadischen Friseure bedienen sich dieser Gedankeneinheiten in ihrer Arbeit, sei es bewusst oder unbewusst“,
bemerkt Vivienne Mackinder.
„Diese Looks umfassen den ur-amerikanischen Look. Ich hoffe, dass diese Kollektion den Friseuren verdeutlicht, dass sie oftmals automatisch auf
einen bestimmten Stil zurückgreifen. Denn dann können sie ihren Kundinnen einen besser durchdachten und raffinierteren Stil vorschlagen und auf
diese Weise den Wert ihrer Arbeit erhöhen.”
„Der amerikanische Stil entwickelte sich damals, als sich die Grenzen nach Westen verschoben. Frauen waren gefordert! Es blieb ihnen gar nichts
anderes übrig, als ihre Krinolinen gegen robustere Kleidung einzutauschen.” erklärt Mary Brunetti. „Daraus ergab sich ein informeller und leicht
androgyner amerikanischer Stil.
Später dann haben Kultfrauen wie Katharine Hepburn und Lauren Bacall ein amerikanisches Gefühl für Mode definiert, indem sie Hosen mit weichen
Seidenblusen kombinierten und so eine widersprüchliche Mischung aus Texturen schufen – maskulin und doch weich, sexy, aber dennoch stark.”
„Lauren Hutton ging sogar noch einen Schritt weiter in der Campagne für ihren Duft “Charlie”. Sie gab der Modewelt zu verstehen, dass ein
androgyner und starker, selbstbewusster amerikanischer Stil von nun an dauerhaft dazugehört.“ sagt Mary Brunetti abschließend.
„Es mag sein, dass der Beitrag Nord- und Südamerikas zur internationalen Mode auf globaler Ebene oft unterschätzt oder als gegeben hingenommen
wird.” meint Vivienne Mackinder zum Abschluss.

“En discutant avec Mary Brunetti de la vision pour ‘American Style,’ j’ai réalisé que certains looks, appelons les des mèmes de mode, sont conçus
de la culture et de l’histoire américaines. Ces mèmes sont devenus les fondations de cette collection,” dit Vivienne Mackinder.
“Tout styliste travaillant en Amérique ou au Canada utilise ces mèmes dans son salon, consciemment ou pas, constate Mackinder.
“Ces styles se composent du look fondamental Américain. J’espère que cette collection aidera les stylistes à reconnaître ce qui est souvent une
réponse de style automatique. Ils seront alors en mesure d’ajouter de la valeur à leur travail en proposant aux clients un style plus conscient et
plus raffiné.”
“American style a été créée à partir de la frontière mouvante occidentale et les exigences qu’elle imposait aux femmes, comme celle de troquer leur
crinoline pour des vêtements plus robustes” explique Mary Brunetti.
“Le résultat a été l’émergence d’un style Américain moins formel et légèrement plus androgyne.
Plus tard, les icônes comme Katharine Hepburn et Lauren Bacall ont défini un sens de la mode Américaine en associant le pantalon à la blouse en
