Colorida Art Gallery was founded in 2007. The gallery is located by the Castle
of São Jorge in the highest hill of the historic centre of Lisbon, in a building
more than 150 years old. Its principal focus is the representation of an
international group of contemporary artists whose diverse practices include
painting, photography, sculpture and drawing. Embracing artists who are
both emerging and established, trained and self taught, Colorida Art Gallery
cultivates artist growth and makes a vital contribution to the Europe arts
community.
The gallery seeks to provide its artists with a solid podium that achieves both to
best present the individuality of their works and to draw attention to the
works inherent cultural significance. The gallery has a strong commitment to
its artists and has worked with galleries and institutions around the world to
establish their careers. Most of its artists have had extensive museum activity,
monographs,
critical
acclaim
and
important
recognition
from
the
international collection community. Colorida Art Gallery assists both
beginning and veteran collectors, buying and selling contemporary works of
established and emerging artists.
A Colorida Galeria de Arte foi inaugurada em 2007 na Costa do Castelo em
Lisboa em um edifício histórico com mais de 150 anos de construção. Com
uma área de 300m2, possui 6 grandes espaços expositivos interligados, porém
independentes, a facilitar a organização tanto de exposições com trabalhos
em grande formato, quanto exposições com carácter mais intimista.
A galeria busca apresentar ao público projectos inéditos, com uma gestão
empresarial que valoriza o trabalho do artista exposto. Mais do que um
simples espaço expositivo, a Colorida tornou-se uma alternativa à rigidez dos
espaços tradicionais de arte de Portugal. A Galeria tem como um de seus
principais objectivos aproximar artistas e público para ampliar o debate
crítico artístico entre ambos. A Colorida busca também promover a
pluralidade de linguagens e apresentar uma programação ecléctica com
forte
confrontação
e
experimentação,
que
caracterizam
a
arte

Piero Manrique's unique, otherworldly artwork has been inspired by his past
studies in design, dance, the martial arts, architecture and sculpture. His
distinctive personal vision goes beyond surrealism to a realm which speaks to
us on a level concerned as much with the past as with the future. Part collage,
part portraits of futuristic jungles, these are alien dreamscapes, to be sure, but
they do not keep us at arm's length. The human body holds a central place in
his vision, and he invites us to see not only the splendor of an imagined future,
but also challenges us to appreciate the human body in juxtaposition to
imagined technology, as an instrument ready to evolve into the next stage of
meaning, and beauty.
With his highly original and challenging work, Piero Manrique offers the
viewer works in which the very notions of art, beauty, and what it means to be
human, are being redefined.
Piero Manrique was born on December 20, 1981 in Lima, Peru. He started
drawing at the age of five and it was introduced to painting techniques when
he arrived in the US at the age of 13.
After
graduating
from
high
school
and
accomplishing
outstanding
achievement in painting he began his trail as an artist at Purchase College
State University of New York (SUNY Purchase) where after a year he decided to
expand his vision and enrolled in the architecture school at Parsons School of
Design. During his studies, Architecture began to shape his vision to a more
complex and elaborate image of the world.
Manrique paints and creates to inspire advancement in life. Within a form
there are complex environments that he dissects through his vision. Evolution
and creation are always happening and through his work he wants to
generate these events.
For Manrique life is a complex puzzle filled with forms, shapes, light and color.
Life is truly magical, if we go too fast we will miss its hidden secrets. He wants
you to imagine and fantasy. He wants you to merge into his paintings and see
yourself in different scales living in it. He wants you to open your mind to new
horizons and grow.
For Manrique painting is a unique expression of the soul. For him a painting is
not just a reflection of beauty but a profound message. His inspiration mainly
comes from the forms of landscape, the complexity in Architecture, the strong
spirits in Animals, dreams, unlimited universe, and the ultimate capacity of
the human body.
