Sylt is the greatest island of the "nordfriesische Inseln". The Island lies in the North Sea in front of the coast of Schleswig-Holstein. Especially, the island is famous because of its touristic health resorts in Westerland, Kampen and Wenningstedt, as well as for its 40 kilometre long west beach. 1 Wattenmeer - The Wadden Sea Das Watt hat pro Quadratmeter Fläche mehrere Tausend sehr aktive Anwohner. The mudflat has per square metre multiple thousands of active residents. So, thousands of crabs, shells, snails and worms are present on the ocean bed, not considering the millions of algae. Bj. With the help of the tides we are able to explore this magic world: ebb and flow form this great ecosystem. Depending on the time of day they open the path to spot this landscape, which is very different from others. The Wadden Sea not only sparkles in the sun. Check it out! By foot, per ship, with instructions and without fear of contact. Another eye catcher are the historic Frisian houses. Nearly every house stays in an east west direction, to give less contact surface to the prevailing westerlies. In the western sections of the houses there were barns, so that the living quarters were protected at the eastern parts of the houses. The top floors of the old houses were not used for living, but as hay and buffer stocks. Till today, the sustained Frisian houses are invariably under monument protection, although nearly every house was remodelled to absolute residential houses. Only the "Old Frisian House" in Keitum from 1737, which is used as a museum, holds its original form of utilisation. Another original house is located in the out-door museum in Molfsee. 3
