S1-Achievements
Cistern, Barter, Hunting, Kiln
These Achievements do not have any effect. Each player starts the game with one of these cards. At the
start of the game, players get 1 resource each in the colour of their S1-Achievement. If you place any of
these Achievements (again) later in the game, you do not get an extra resource.
S2-Achievements
Boat, Wheels & Axle, Net, Road (discount cards)
When you use any of these Achievements‘ effects, you take any 1 Achievement of the same colour from
your hand and place it in front of you. For payment you have to discard 1 card less of the same colour
than usual. “Boat” can be used for placing blue Achievements only, “Wheels & Axle” can be used for yellow Achievements, “Fishing Net” for pink Achievements, and “Road” for red ones. You may replace the
discount card you are using with your newly placed Achievement.
Example: Lying in front of Andrew is a red “Road” (S2). For one of his actions, he uses its effect to place
a red “Lighthouse” (S3) in front of him. He discards 1 more red Achievement from his hand (instead
of the usual 2).

Example: Darien has “Wheels & Axle” (S2, yellow) lying in front of him. For one of his actions, he uses
its effect to replace this Achievement with “Astronomy” (S4, yellow) from his hand. 1 He takes “Wheels
& Axle” back in his hand 2 and then has to discard 2 more yellow cards (instead of the usual 3); he
chooses “Coinage” and the “Wheels & Axle” he just took back in his hand. 3

Swape, Coinage, Domestication, Quarry (resource cards)
When you use any of these Achievements‘ effects, you take 1 of
the 2 resources shown on the card from the bank.
Water Wheel (non action)
When you use this Achievement’s effect, you exchange 1 card from your hand with 1 face up Achievement
from the main card display. This does not count as an action.
Example: Melvin exchanges “Hunting” (S1) from his hand with “Aqueduct” (S4) from the main card
display.
Scales (non action)
When you use this Achievement’s effect, you move 1 Settlement piece from above one of your Achievements to another of your Achievements. This does not count as an action. You may use this effect to build
a city in Epoch I.
Example: Melvin takes the village (a single Settlement piece) from his “Domestication” (S2) and stacks
it on top of the Settlement piece above his “Ziggurat” (S4) to build a city.
Plough (non action)
When you use this Achievement’s effect, you return any 1 resource to the bank and take any 1 resource of
a different colour from the bank. This does not count as an action.
Town House (non action)
When you use this Achievement’s effect, you discard 1 card from your hand to the discard pile and take 1
resource of the same colour from the bank. This does not count as an action.
Example: Darien discards the “Wheels & Axle” (S2, yellow) to the discard pile and takes 1 gold from
the bank.
S3-Achievements
Water Clock (scoring card)
When this Achievement is lying in front of you at the end of the game, you gain 1 point for any 2 of your
resources. The “Water Clock” cannot give more than 3 points. If you have more resources, you score
1 point for any 5 remaining resources as usual.
Example: At the end of the game, Greg has a total of 13 resources. Due to his “Water Clock”, he scores
3 points (using up 6 resources). For his remaining 7 resources he scores 1 more point.

Lyre (scoring card)
When this Achievement is lying in front of you at the end of the game, and you can proof that you might
have placed (in accordance with all applicable rules) 1 Achievement from your hand that is not already in
front of you, you score as many points as that Achievement’s stage.
Note: You may use same-coloured pairs of cards as substitutes for payment as well as the effects of any
“discount cards”.
Example: Lying in front of Amy is a “Lyre”, and the yellow Achievement “Wheels & Axle”. At the scoring, she shows that she can place “Block & Tackle” (S3, yellow). As proof, she shows 1 more yellow card
from her hand, since “Wheels & Axle” does lower the necessary payment. Due to her “Lyre”, Amy scores
3 more points.

Brewing (scoring card)
When this Achievement is lying in front of you at the end of the game, you score 2 more points.
Lighthouse (scoring card)
When this Achievement is lying in front of you at the scoring, you gain 1 point for any 1 blue, pink, and
yellow Achievement lying in front of you.
Example: At the scoring, the following Achievements are lying in front of Serena: “Lighthouse” (red),
“City Wall” (red), “Wheels & Axle” (yellow), “Astronomy” (yellow), and “Aqueduct” (blue). Due to her
“Lighthouse”, Serena scores 2 more points for her blue and yellow Achievements.

Sewers (non action)
When you use this Achievement’s effect, you return up to 6 resources to the bank and take the same number of resources of different colours from the bank. This does not count as an action.
Block & Tackle (resource cards)
When you use this Achievement’s effect, you take any 1 resource from the bank.
Food Preservation
While this Achievement is lying in front of you, it is easier for you to survive disasters and build Settlements: you have to return/discard 1 less resource/card; if there is a “Volcanic Eruption”, the stage total of
your Achievements may be 16 or less. All requirements for placing Settlement pieces are either reduced or
increased by 1 (whatever is better for you). If there is a Sun (III/IV), you can build settlements even with
S2-Achievements in your personal display. Using this function doesn‘t count as an action; it‘s use is outside
the normal flow of actions during the end of an epoch.
City Wall
While this Achievement is lying in front of you, you pay 1 resource (of your choice) less when placing a
Settlement piece.
Example: Andrew wants to buy 1 Settlement piece from the Epoch II card and place it above his yellow
“Wheels & Axle”. He does meet the requirements printed on the Civilization card. Normally, he would
have to pay 2 Gold (AA) and 1 more pair of resources in a different colour (BB). Due to his “City Wall”,
he has to pay any 1 resource less. Andrew returns 1 Gold and 2 Water to the bank.

S4-Achievements
Aqueduct
There are two different versions of this Achievement in the game: 3× with an arrow pointing left and 3×
with an arrow pointing right. When you use this Achievement’s effect, you may use an Achievement’s effect lying in front of the player to your left (left arrow) or to your right (right arrow). This may not be an
Achievement that is lying in front of you, too.
You may use the “Aqueduct” to use a non-action effect. However, since using the “Aqueduct” is an action,
this will use up 1 action. You may not use the effect of scoring cards, since these only take effect after the
game has ended. You are also not allowed to use via “Aqueduct” the functions of “Food preservation” or
“City wall”. It ist not allowed to have more than 1 “Aqueduct” in your personal display; notwithstanding
the different arrows there is only one “Aqueduct”.
Astronomy (resource card)
When you use this Achievement’s effect, you discard up to 4 cards of any colours from your hand and take
the same number of resources in corresponding colours.
Example: Darien places the cards “Lighthouse” (red), “Road” (red), and “Aqueduct” (blue) on the discard pile. He then takes 2 Bricks and 1 Water from the bank.
Granary (resource card)
When you use this Achievement’s effect, you take any 2 resources of the same colour from the bank.
Ziggurat (resource card)
When you use this Achievement’s effect, you take 1 of each resources you do not currently have.
Example: Melvin does not have any resources. He takes 4 different resources from the bank.
Example: Amy has 3 Pigs, 1 Gold, and 1 Water. She takes 1 Brick from the bank.
