ln den Jahren 1976, 1984 und 1989 nahm
die M anitou and Pike's Peak Railway Co.
(Colorado, USA) gesam thaft vier von der
SLM gebaute achtachsige, dieselhydrauli­
sche D oppeltriebw agen in Betrieb. Jede
Einheit bietet fü r 216 Passagiere Platz. Die
14 km lange, m it Abt-Zahnstangen ausge­
rüstete Zahnradstrecke der Bahn weist
eine größte Steigung von 250 %o auf.
Die D oppeltriebw agen sind von vier
Dieselmotoren angetrieben, deren Dreh­
momente über hydrodynamische
W andlergetriebe und die Kardanwellen
auf die Achsantriebe übertragen werden.
Drei unabhängige Bremssysteme, beste­
hend aus einer hydrodynamischen Behar­
rungsbremse und zwei mechanischen,
hydraulisch lösbaren FederspeicherTrommelbremsen, garantieren den
sicheren Betrieb. Die Steuerung e rfo lg t
mit einem kom binierten elektrischen,
pneumatischen und hydraulischen
System.
Durant les annees 1976, 1984 et 1989,
la M anitou and Pike's Peak Railway Co.
(Colorado, USA) a mis en service un
nombre to ta l de quatre automotrices
diesel-hydrauliques doubles, ä huit
essieux, construites par la SLM. Chaque
unite o ffre place ä 216 passagers. Long de
14 km, le tron^on de la ligne equipe d'une
cremaillere A b t presente une rampe
maximale de 250 %o.
Les autom otrices doubles sont propulsees par quatre moteurs Diesel, d o n t
le couple est transmis aux commandes
d'essieux par l'interm ediaire de convertisseurs hydrodynamiques et d'arbres ä
cardan. Trois systemes de freinage
independants, soit un frein hydrodynamique de maintien et deux freins ä
ta m b ou r mecaniques ä accumulation
d'energie par ressort, desserrables par
voie hydraulique, garantissent un service
sür. La commande est assuree par un
systeme pneumatique, hydraulique et
electrique combine.

designed and built by SLM. Each unit can
accommodate 216 passengers. Equipped
w ith A b t rack rails, the 14 km long rackrail section o f the railway has gradients o f
up to 250 %o.
The tw in -u n it railcars are powered by
fo u r diesel motors, whose torques are
transm itted to the axle drives by means
o f hydrodynamic Converters and
the cardan shafts. Three independent
braking systems, namely a hydrodynamic
retarder and tw o spring-loaded drum
brakes w ith hydraulic release ensure safe
operation. Control is perform ed by
a combined electric, pneumatic and
hydraulic system.
