Im Nahmen der Stadt Palma möchte ich Sie hier willkommen
heissen, an diesem Ort, dessen langjährige Geschichte
vom ständigen Kommen und Gehen unterschiedlichster
Zivilisationen, Kulturen und Völker geprägt wurde.
All diese Einflüsse haben eine Stadt geschaffen, die mit dem
Meer vertraut ist und voller Erwartungen den eintreffenden
Menschen und Waren entgegenblickt. Eine Stadt, deren
Hoffnung und Schicksal bei den See stechenden, mit
einheimischen Erzeugnissen beladenen Schiffe liegt und
bei allen, die seinerzeit ihr Glück an anderen Orten gesucht
haben.
Aus dem Handwerk der Fischerei, den damit verbundenen
Berufen und dem Bau traditioneller Schiffe sind mit der Zeit neue
berufliche Chancen enstanden, als Folge des aufkommenden
Fremdenverkehrs, insbesondere des Bootstourismus.
Ich freue mich, Sie zu einem Zeitpunkt begrüßen zu können,
an dem die unterschiedlichen Branchen der lokalen Wirtschaft
mit vereinten Kräften daran arbeiten, das Potenzial zu
erfassen, das die Gemeinde von Palma allen Besuchern
unserer Stadt anbieten kann, insbesondere denjenigen, die
mit einem eigenen oder einem gecharterten Boot über das
Meer kommen.
Dieser Leitfaden mit den Dienstleistungen für Boote und
Yachten soll die Zugehörigkeit und die Integration in die
Stadt vereinfachen und bietet Ihnen zum Empfang folgende
Angaben: einen Lageplan des Hafens von Palma, einen kurzen
Einblick in die Geschichte des Hafens, eine Aufzählung der
Sport- und Freizeithäfen und Bootsclubs, das ergänzende
Angebot, die charakteristischen Geschäfte der Stadt und
nützliche Telefonnummern.
Die Gemeindeverwaltung von Palma und mit ihr alle

Die Entwicklung der lokalen Wirtschaft durch das Schaffen
und Dynamisieren wirtschaftlicher Unternehmensprojekte ist

Erbe der Stadt und das ergänzende Angebot aufbauen.

vom Chronisten der Stadt
Schon seit seiner Gründung durch die Römer hatte die Stadt
Palma einen Hafen. In jener Zeit reichte das Stadtgebiet kaum
über den Bereich hinaus, den heute der Stadteil Almudaina
einnimmt. Eine tiefe Hafeneinfahrt umgab die Stadt an der
Ostseite, d.h. der Bereich der heutigen Avenida Antonio
Maura, die Paseo del Borne und die Calle Unión waren vom
Meer überflutet. Tatsächlich wurde im 19. Jahrhundert ein
römischer Anker genau vor dem Teatro Principal (Haupttheater)
gefunden. Genau an dieser Stelle endete vermutlich das
Flussbett von Riera, dort, wo heute die Promenade der
Rambla liegt. Diese Hafeneinfahrt diente in der römischen
und der musulmanischen Zeit vermutlich als Kai. Vor kurzen
wurde im Verlauf von Bauarbeiten an der Paseo del Borne, in
der Höhe der Calle Constitución, ein Kai aus der Epoche des
musulmanischen Reiches gefunden. In dieser historischen
islamischen Epoche wurden mehrere Werften genau vor dem
Palast des Emirs gebaut, dem heutigen Palast von Almudaina.
Noch heute können wir in den Gärten von s’Hort del Rei
den Bogen sehen, der den Zugang zu diesen Werften bot.
Später wurden weitere Werften außerhalb des ummauerten
musulmanischen Gebiets errichtet, auf dem Platz, der heute
den Namen Atarazanas (historisch für Werft) trägt, neben dem
Consulado del Mar. Ebenfalls in dieser Zeit wurde die Bucht
von Porto Pi als natürlicher Schutzhafen für die Schiffe bei
Unwetter genutzt.
Im 13. Jahrhundert, nach der Wiedereingliederung des
Königreichs von Mallorca in die Christenheit durch den
König Jaime I, durchlief Palma einen neuen wirtschaftlichen
Aufschwung und sofort wurde der Bau neuer Hafenanlagen
erforderlich. Bereits 1270 wurde ein künstlicher Kai vor dem
Palast von Almudaina errichtet, der Keim des Kais, der mit
der Zeit zum alten Kai von Palma wurde. Dieser neue Kai
ergänzte den Hafen von Porto Pi, die Boote konnten also ihre
Waren vor den Mauern der Stadt ausladen und über Nacht in
Porto Pi vor Anker gehen. Zur Sicherheit für die Boote wurde
die Bucht von Porto Pi mit Ketten gesperrt, deren Enden an
den die Einfahrt zur Bucht flankierenden Verteidigungstürmen
von Porto Pi und Paraires festgemacht wurden.
Es gab noch einen weiteren Kai zum Abladen, am südlichen
Ende von Palma, gegenüber der Festung Baluarte del Príncipe.
In unmittelbarer Nähe zu diesem Kai befand sich eine weitere

kleine Bucht, die ebenfalls einen natürlichen Hafen bildet und
seit dem Mittelalter unter dem Namen Es Portitxol bekannt
ist. Sowohl der Kai als auch der Hafen unterstanden den
Rittern des Templerordens, der bekannterweise eine wichtige
Rolle bei der Eroberung und der Aufteilung der Insel Mallorca
spielte. Das Haupthaus des Ordens lag in unmittelbarer Nähe
zur heutigen Festung Baluarte del Príncipe, ein Ort, der heute
als es Castell del Temple (Templerfestung) bekannt ist; der Kai
diente also dazu, der Flotte der Templer das Be- und Entladen
ihrer Waren in der Nähe ihrer Festung zu ermöglichen.
1319 übertrug König Sancho von Mallorca den geschworenen
Verwaltern des Königreichs Mallorca mehrere Grundstücke
von Porto Pi zum Bau von Werften, da die Werften der Stadt
nicht mehr ausreichten. Alle Schiffe, die den Hafen von Palma
anliefen und nicht zum Königreich gehörten, bezahlten eine
Ankersteuer, „Ancoratge“. Dank dieser Steuer wissen wir
heute, dass vor allem Schiffe des Königreichs von Aragon
(insbesondere aus Katalonien und Valencia), des Königreichs
Kastilien, des Königreichs Frankreich und Schiffe aus
italienischen Städten den Hafen von Palma als Stützpunkt
zur Umverteilung und als Zwischenstation auf ihrem Weg zum
Zielhafen nutzten.
Diese Gestaltung der Hafenanlagen von Palma blieb bis zum
20. Jahrhundert erhalten, mit Ausnahme des alten Kais, der im
Verlauf des Mittelalters und der Moderne zunehmend erweitert
wurde. Mit dem 20. Jahrhundert und dem Aufkommen der
Industrialisierung und des Fremdenverkehrs veränderte der
Hafen von Palma sein Gesicht und wurde zu dem, was wir
heute sehen. Zum alten Kai gesellte sich der neue Kai und
die Kais für den Seehandel, um den Bedürfnissen der großen
Frachtschiffe gerecht zu werden. Daneben wurde ausgehend
von der Kaizunge von San Carlos ein großer Damm und ein
Kai zum Be- und Entladen von Waren und für ausländische
Militärschiffe, vor allem für die 6. Flotte der US-Navy, gebaut.
Dazu kamen die Kais von Jonquet, das Hafenbecken von
San Magín, der Club Náutico de Palma, die Kaizunge von
Can Barbarà und der Club de Mar, die Häfen von Portitxol,
Can Pastilla, Es Molinar und Cala Gamba… alles, um die
zunehmende Anzahl von Freizeitbooten aufzunehmen. Zum
Schluss kamen der Hafenbahnhof und der Kai von Paraires
als Anlegestelle für den Personentransport hinzu.
