One Thousand and one Nights at the 6th Klassik OpenAir at Jagdschloss Grunewald

Orchestral music • Choir music • Fairy tales
A romantic concert night at Grunewaldsee: the 6th Klassik OpenAir concerts at Jagdschloss
Grunewald provides you a variety of oriental fairy tales and music. This evening is going to be like a
journey that takes you through the romantic music performed by our orchestra and choir. The
chosen music is a compilation of works by Rimski-Korsakow’s Scheherazade, Mozart’s Entführung
aus dem Serail, Saint Saëns’ Samson and Dalila, Suite Algerienne, Schumann’s The Paradise and the
Peri as well as Nielsen’s Aladdin Suite. This marvellous performance is conducted by Stefan
Meinecke and his orchestra. Over 50 professional musicians of the the Orpheus Ensemble and over
80 members of the chorus of the Sinfonischer Chor Berlin will be on stage. This years’ midsummer
performance is going to provide you a broad variety of fairy tales from One Thousand and one
Nights, narrated by Guido Beirens, and supported with Arabic sounds by Derya Ülker.
Such unique atmosphere arises when the sun goes down over the lake, painting the 400-year-old
castle yellow and red. At night the castle and its courtyard will be illuminated in fascinating colours.
This combination of Arabic sounds and nature surrounding you will provide you an unforgettable
event.
Our conductor Stefan Meinecke comments on that: “Under the clear sky we want to make it
possible that one can hear how the foreign encounters you, because music and literature are prove
for a cultural exchange between the Orient and Occident for hundreds of years.”
Since 2011 there has been every year such a Klassik OpenAir event at the Jagdschloss Grunewald.
We carry on a tradition of the Berliner Philharmoniker who performed their first concerts in the
1950s at this place. After last years’ three sold out performances our tradition goes on:
Come, visit us and be inspired!
