sIGnAtUREs - Postkapitalistischer Expressionismus
2009 - 2015 Post-capitalist Expressionism «sIGnAtUREs» contEnts «sIGnAtUREs» 2013 - 2015 (Selection) «REZYKLAtE» 2009 - 2012 (Selection) 2013 - 2015 The oversized signatures painted in oil of famous artists such as Keith Haring, Pablo Picasso and Jeff Koons become a symbol for the claim to absoluteness associated with the artist’s signature. This work reflects the clichéd and mythical notion of personal creativity and clearly challenges the cult surrounding egocentric people and names which prevails in our society. «KEItH HARInG» Signature Oil on canvas 180 cm x 180 cm 2014 «MAX ERNST» Signature Oil on canvas 210 cm x 210 cm 2013 «DAMIEN HIRST» Signature Oil on canvas 160 cm x 160 cm 2014 «PIET MONDRIAN» Signature Oil on canvas 120 cm x 120 cm 2015 «PABLO PICASSO» Signature Oil on canvas 120 cm x 120 cm 2014 «PABLO PICASSO» Signature Oil on canvas 180 cm x 180 cm 2013 «PIET MONDRIAN» Signature Oil on canvas 240 cm x 240 cm 2014 «JEFF KOONS» Signature Oil on canvas 180 cm x 180 cm 2013 «MAN RAY» Signature Oil on canvas 180 cm x 180 cm 2013 «ANDY WARHOL» Signature Oil on canvas 180 cm x 180 cm 2014 «ANDY WARHOL» Signature Oil on canvas 120 cm x 120 cm 2013 «GUstAV KLIMt» Signature Oil on canvas 180 cm x 180 cm 2013 «REZYKLAtE» 2009 - 2012 The recycling methods reference the mechanism and essence of our brand slavery and capitalist characterised world with precise eloquence through devaluation and reprocessing. After the intervention status symbols are no longer recognisable as such. The Armani sweater becomes a ball of wool, the Rolex watch a brass ingot and new paper is created from the bank notes. The work poses long overdue questions in the context of the ever worsening financial and social situation of the majority of people, and an ever widening gap between rich and poor. Design and designer fashion «JoAn MIRÓ» Signature Oil on canvas 180 cm x 180 cm 2013 The balls of wool pulled out from a designer sweater and the pieces of fabric sewn together from business suits embody, in the same way as the recycled design objects, a precise clarity and consistency about the predominant egocentric person and name cult in our society. With their recycling the artists succeed in creating a counterpart to the trendy fashion object, an «anti-design object». In this way the disastrous pattern in our society, in which not greater equality but rather ever more individualism is deemed to be desirable, is questioned, and the objects become a symbol of our world and its economic inequality. One of the most important design principles, «the reduction to essentials», is uncompromisingly implemented in this work. «cLAUDE MonEt» Signature Oil on canvas 180 cm x 180 cm 2013 «PHILIPPE STARCK» Lemon squeezer Melted to metal 12 cm x 25 cm x 12 cm 2009 «GIORGIO ARMANI» Men’s jumper Unrolled to make a ball of wool ø 15 cm 2009 «WOLFGANG JOOP» Men‘s blazer Sewed together to make fabric 160 cm x 200 cm 2009 «CARTIER» Ladies Bracelet Melted to metal 2 cm x 2 cm x 5.5 cm 2010 «HUGO BOSS» Man‘s suit Sewed together to make fabric 150 cm x 200 cm 2011 «ROLEX» Men‘s Watch Melted to metal ø 3 cm 2009 «RENA LANGE» Ladies necklace Melted to metal ø 3.5 cm 2010 «SWATCH» Men‘s Watch Melted to plastic ø 4 cm 2009 «HUGO BOSS» Men’s jumper Unrolled to make a ball of wool ø 16 cm 2011 «toMMY HILFIGER» Men’s jumper Unrolled to make a ball of wool ø 13 cm 2009 Money, society and media The Euro, Dollar and Franc banknotes used to create paper and the recycled issues of the Financial Times or the Bilanz, explicitly show the connection between social inequality and decadent capitalism. The works symbolise that the current form of our market economy is going in the wrong direction and point out that it is not democratically legitimate government that is making decisions about our personal destiny but rather international financial organisa«LUIGI coLAnI» Reflex Camera Melted to plastic 8 cm x 14 cm x 8 cm 2012 «REnÉ LEZARD» Man‘s suit Sewed together to make fabric 150 cm x 200 cm 2009 tions. In our polarising world of rich and poor the artists succeed in neutralising objects and thus creating a new reality, a space of the «happy centre». «SWISS FRANCS» 10-Francs-Notes Made into paper 42 cm x 59.4 cm 2009 «EDGAR QUADT» Artinvestor (Fachpublikation) Made into paper 42 cm x 59.4 cm 2011 «US-DOLLAR» 1-Dollar-Notes Made into paper 42 cm x 59.4 cm 2009 «EURO» 10-Euro-Notes Made into paper 42 cm x 59.4 cm 2012 «MICHAEL COVEL» Trend Following (Trade Publication) Made into paper 42 cm x 59.4 cm 2011 «JOE TERRANOVA» Kaufe teuer, verkaufe teurer!
