Münsterplatz
The 2015 edition of Art Basel in Basel (https://www.artbasel.com/en/Basel)’s Parcours sector will feature 23 site­specific artworks installed
around Basel's Münsterplatz, the picturesque historical center of Basel, in key locations such as the Museum of Culture, the Natural History
Museum, the Town Hall, as well as the Münsterplatz itself, engaging with Basel’s past and present by “weaving artistic interventions into
the fabric of each specific location.” The sector will be open to the public from Wednesday June 17 to Sunday June 21, culminating in
Parcours Night on Saturday June 20.
Curated for the third consecutive year by Florence Derieux, Director of FRAC Champagne­Ardenne, Parcours 2015 brings together works
by internationally renowned and emerging artists including Alexandra Bachzetsis, Davide Balula, Adriano Costa, Alicia Framis, Piero Golia,
Tobias Kaspar, Alicja Kwade, Nate Lowman, Michaela Meise, Jonathan Monk, Vik Muniz, Ciprian Mureşan, Peter Regli, David Renggli,
Ugo Rondinone, Yves Scherer, Lara Schnitger, Alyson Shotz, Daniel Silver, Philippe Thomas, Blair Thurman, and Francisco Tropa.
Highlights include Swiss artist Ugo Rondinone’s imposing new stone sculpture “the gracious” (2015), situated on Münsterplatz; French
artist Davide Balula’s fully functioning ice cream parlour at the Natural History Museum where the artist will serve unusual ice cream
flavours; Brazilian artist Vik Muniz’s “Mnemonic Vehicle (Ferrari)” (2015), a life­size sculpture of the iconic Matchbox toy car at St.
Martin’s church; Romanian artist Ciprian Mureşan’s live performance of puppetry at the Puppet Theater; and Spanish artist Alicia Framis’s
installation of banned books in Basel's cathedral.
