LANGGUTH ist ein traditionelles Familienunternehmen. Seit der Gründung durch unseren
Großvater Albin Langguth im Jahr 1932
stehen damit auch familiäre Werte im Zentrum
unserer Unternehmensphilosophie. Soziale
Verantwortung, Zusammenhalt, Umsichtigkeit und Nachhaltigkeit sind für uns wichtiger
als lediglich kurzfristige Gewinne. Mit 2009 ist
eines der schwierigsten Jahre der Unternehmensgeschichte zu Ende gegangen.
LANGGUTH hatte mit sehr abrupt eintretenden
wirtschaftlichen Veränderungen zu kämpfen,
was auf allen Unternehmensebenen spürbar
geworden ist. Die weltweite Finanzkrise hat
mit aller Deutlichkeit aufgedeckt, ob und wie
Unternehmen für die Zukunft vorbereitet sind
und wer sich auf längere Sicht auf dem Markt
behaupten kann. Es hat sich gezeigt, dass
LANGGUTH auch durch seine wertorientierte
Unternehmenspolitik sehr gut aufgestellt ist
und durch die vorangegangene Neuordnung
der Kostenstruktur besser auf die Veränderungen reagieren konnte als mancher Wettbewerber. Wir sind zuversichtlich, dass der
tiefste Punkt des Tales durchschritten ist und
es nun langsam wieder aufwärts geht. Die

LANGGUTH had to face radical changes of the

position on the market. It has been shown that
also due to its system of values LANGGUTH is
very well positioned and that owing to the previous restructuring of costs the company could
better react on the changements than competitors. We are confident that the most difficult

er Trend ist klar zu erkennen: Haftetiketten sind immer gefragter. Aufgrund
der Etikettierqualität und des einfachen
Maschinenhandlings akzeptieren viele Firmen
die Mehrkosten für Haftetiketten gegenüber
anderen Etikettiersystemen. Der Wechsel der
Etikettenrollen bei Rollenende erforderte bisher
unwirtschaftliche Maschinenstillstände. Die
Lösung mit zwei hintereinander geschalteten
Spendeeinheiten brachte den Erfolg.
Bei einer Etikettierfrequenz im Hochleistungsbereich von bis zu 30.000 Gebinden pro Stunde ist
eine Effizienzsteigerung von bis zu acht Prozent
zu verzeichnen. Die Umstellung auf einen vollautomatischen Spenderwechsel ist bei jeder
Maschine möglich. Die Maschinen sind bereits

sowohl in der Farben- und Lackindustrie als
auch in der Chemiebranche für alle handelsüblichen Klein- und Großgebinde im Einsatz. Aber
auch die bei Lebensmitteln vorkommenden
Kleinstgebinde werden mit hoher Präzision
etikettiert. Eine spezielle Abwickel- und Spannvorrichtung sorgt für die gleichbleibende
Spannung des Bandzuges und damit für eine
absolut exakte Etikettierung. Dadurch können
auch die für Promotionszwecke sehr gefragten
Leporello-Etiketten problemlos aufgebracht
werden. Selbstverständlich hat LANGGUTH auch
an die Personen gedacht, die für den Austausch
der Rollen verantwortlich sind: Die Spenderstation ist besonders ergonomisch gebaut und
erleichtert den Einsatz der schweren Rollen.

he trend is clearly to be recognized: Selfadhesive labels are demanded more and
more. Due to labelling quality and easy
machine handling many companies accept the
additional costs for self-adhesive labels in
comparison to other labelling systems. Up to
now the label roll change in case of roll end
required inefficient machine downtimes. The
solution with two dispensing units arranged in
succession achieved success.
With a labelling frequency in the high-speed
range of up to 30.000 containers per hour
a raising efficiency up to eight per cent can be
recognized. The conversion to an automatic
dispenser change is possible for each machi-
ne. The machines are already used in the paint
and varnish industry as well as in the field
of chemistry for all small and large containers
customar y in trade. However, also midget
containers for the food industry are labelled with
high precision. A special unwinding and tensioning device ensures consistent tape tension
and leads therefore to an absolutely exact labelling
result. Consequently, also the Leporello labels
being in great demand for promotion purposes
can be applied without any problems. Of course
LANGGUTH has also thought of the employees
who are responsible for roll change: The dispensing
station has been designed ergonomically and
relieves the installation of heavy rolls.

esonders in den Wintermonaten greifen
genussfreudige Verbraucher häufiger zu
konserviertem Obst und Gemüse im Glas
oder in der Dose. LANGGUTH Kunden aus der
Konservierungs-Industrie produzieren sehr oft
beide Varianten und legen Wert darauf, dass die
Etikettierung verschiedenster Gebinde und die
Verwendung unterschiedlicher Etikettenformate
mit einer Maschine zu realisieren ist. LANGGUTH
erhielt eine Anfrage der Oberpfälzischen Konserven-Industrie Schwandorf GmbH & Co. KG
(Okis), die genau diese flexible Etikettierung für
ihre Produktion benötigt. Es wurde eine Maschine angefragt, die sowohl Glasgebinde als auch
Dosen in verschiedenen Formen und Größen mit
jeweils individuellen Etiketten ausstatten kann.
Zusätzlich stellte Okis die Anforderung, dass
die Etikettiermaschine in der Lage sein sollte, je

nach Bedarf Kunststoff- oder Papier-RundumEtiketten mit Heißleim oder aber Papier-Schildetiketten mit Nassleim auf verschiedene Gebinde
aufzubringen. Für diese Herausforderung haben
die LANGGUTH Ingenieure der hotLAN- und der
wetLAN-Unit gemeinsam eine Lösung gesucht
und gefunden. Das Resultat ist eine Etikettiereinheit, die je nach Anforderung in kürzester Zeit die
Stationen auf Nass- beziehungsweise Heißleim
zuschalten kann. Okis Konserven profitiert dabei
von den Vorteilen beider LANGGUTH Etikettiertechniken, zum Beispiel dem konkurrenzlosen
Minimum an formatspezifischen Rüstteilen und
einer sehr hohen Leistung. Im Heißleimbereich
können bis zu 60.000 Gebinde pro Stunde etikettiert werden. „Ein optimales Ergebnis“, bestätigt
das bayerische Traditionsunternehmen Okis.

specially in winter gourmets are buying
more and more fruits and vegetables filled
in jars or cans. LANGGUTH‘s customers
of the conservation industry often produce both
variants and consider it as quite important that
the labelling of widely differing containers and
the application of varying label sizes can be
realized with one machine. LANGGUTH received
an inquiry from the company Oberpfälzische
Konserven-Industrie Schwandorf GmbH & Co.
KG (Okis) who required exactly this flexible labelling solution for production. They demanded a
machine to equip jars as well as cans of different
forms and sizes with individual labels. Additionally it should be possible to apply plastic/paper
wraparound labels with hotmelt or paper patch
labels with wet glue onto different containers.
LANGGUTH‘s engineers working in the hotLAN
and wetLAN unit were looking for a solution. The
result is a labelling unit capable to activate the
stations for wet glue or hotmelt within very short
time depending on the actual requirements. Okis
Konserven takes therefore advantage of both
LANGGUTH labelling solutions, i.e. the unrivalled minimum of size parts and high capacity.
With hotmelt up to 60.000 containers per hour
can be labelled. „An optimum result“, confirms
the traditional company Okis located in Bavaria.

Wie die Heißleimtechnologie von LANGGUTH Kosten senkt

üsen sprühen mehrere Punkte aus
hauchdünnen Leimfäden spiralförmig
senkrecht übereinander auf das Gebinde. An diesen haftet das Etikett an und wird um
das rotierende Gebinde gewickelt. Während das
Etikett aus dem Etikettenmagazin entnommen
wird, wird ein senkrechter schmaler Leimfilm
auf das Etikett aufgetragen, der dieses dann
fest mit dem Gebinde verbindet. Ganz gleich, ob
es sich um formstabile oder -instabile Gebinde handelt, diese hocheffiziente Anfangs- und
Endbeleimung ermöglicht die Etikettierung im
Hochleistungsbereich von bis zu 60.000 Gebinden pro Stunde. Das geschlossene Beleimungssystem erhöht die Wirtschaftlichkeit durch die
Reduzierung von Wartungs- und Reinigungszeiten sowie durch einen geringeren Leimverbrauch. Im Vergleich zu einer Vollflächenbeleimung werden hier nur circa 15 Prozent Leim

benötigt. Die programmierbare Leimaufheizung gewährleistet, dass die Maschine zu
Produktionsbeginn ohne Wartezeit einsatzbereit
ist. Ihr Etikett wird sowohl auf Glas als auch auf
Kunststoff optimal aufgebracht. Die Adaption
auf wechselnde Gebindeformen und -größen ist
für LANGGUTH Maschinen selbstverständlich.
Das Maschinensystem ist für Gebinde mit verschiedenen Querschnitten und sogar für leicht
konische Gebinde einsetzbar. Neben vollflächig
bedruckten und transparenten Folien können
LANGGUTH Anlagen auch Papieretiketten mit
Heißleim aufbringen. Endverbraucher schätzen
den unverstellten, klaren Blick auf den Inhalt
ihrer Einkäufe – der zeitgemäße No-Label-Look
mit transparenter Folie und transparentem
Leim stellt sowohl Produzenten als auch Konsumenten zufrieden.

N
ozzles spray several points of very thin

top of each other onto the container. The
label adheres to them and is wound around the
rotating container. While the label is taken out of
the label magazine a vertical narrow glue film is
applied onto the label which connects the label
reliably to the container.
No matter whether stable or unstable containers
are concerned: This very efficient pick-up and
lap glue facilitates in the high-speed range
the labelling of up to 60.000 containers per hour.
The closed glueing system increases efficiency
by reducing maintenance, cleaning periods and
glue consumption. In comparison to a full
surface glueing only approx. 15 per cent glue are
required.
The programmable glue heater makes sure that
the machine is ready for operation without
waiting time when production is started.
Your label is applied perfectly onto jars as well as
plastic containers. Of course the changeover to
var ying container forms and sizes is available for LANGGUTH machines. The machine
system can be used for containers with different
cross-sections and even for slightly tapered
containers.
Apart from printed and clear films it is possible
to apply with LANGGUTH machines also paper
labels using hotmelt. Final consumers appreciate
the undisguised clear view onto the contents of
their purchased goods – the no label look with
transparent film as well as transparent glue
meets manufacturers‘ and customers‘ requirements.

aseline: Dem Endverbraucher begegnet
sie bei mehreren Produkten des Konsumgüter-Giganten Procter & Gamble. Zum
Beispiel in der WICK VapoRub Erkältungssalbe,
die weltweit eine Minderung von Husten- und
Schnupfenbeschwerden verspricht. Vaseline
wird außerdem bei der Produktion von Einwegwindeln der Procter & Gamble Marke Pampers
verwendet. Um die Vaseline vom Werk in GroßGerau zur Weiterverwendung in die Produktionsstätten der Windeln zu transportieren, wird
diese in 5-Liter-Rechteck-Eimer abgefüllt und
auf Paletten für den LKW-Transport gestapelt.
Der gesamte Ablauf zur Abfüllung dieser Eimer
erfolgte bei Procter & Gamble bisher manuell
und sollte automatisiert werden. Die kompakte
LANGGUTH Verpackungsmaschine des Typs
sysLAN hat die Techniker von Procter & Gamble
schnell überzeugt. Neben den 5-Liter-Eimern
können auch weiterhin Großgebinde manu-

ell abgefüllt werden. Die Anlage besteht aus
mehreren Komponenten, die zu einer Maschine zusammengefügt wurden. Die einzelnen
Funktionselemente sind: Eimerentstapelung,
Eimerdichtigkeitskontrolle, optische Kontrolle
der Eimer auf Fehler und Verunreinigungen,
Abfüllung, Deckelaufleger und Verschließeinrichtung. Verbunden sind alle diese Komponenten in der Maschine über ein gemeinsames
Transportmittel.
Für die LANGGUTH Techniker stellte der wässrige Zustand der Vaseline, die mit einer Temperatur zwischen 40 und 70°C fast „randvoll“ abgefüllt wird, eine Herausforderung bezüglich der
Transporttechnik dar. Es können auf der Anlage
fünf Gebinde pro Minute abgefüllt und verpackt
werden. Procter & Gamble zeigte sich außerdem
beeindruckt von der kurzen Bearbeitungszeit von
lediglich drei Monaten von der Auftragsbestätigung bis zur Inbetriebnahme der Anlage.

aseline: It is well known to the consumer
by several products of the multinational
company Procter & Gamble, e.g. Vicks
VapoRub Topical Ointment which is applied all
over the world to soothe bad colds. Furthermore
Vaseline is used for the production of disposable
diapers of the Procter & Gamble brand Pampers.
In order to bring the Vaseline for subsequent
use from the company located in Groß-Gerau
to the production plant for diapers it is filled
in rectangular 5 litre pails und stacked on pallets
for transport by truck. Up to now the whole
procedure for filling the pails was effected
manually and should be automatized. The
engineers from Procter & Gamble were soon
be convinced that the compact L ANGGUTH
packaging machine type sysLAN was the best
solution.
Apart from the 5 Litre pails also large containers can be filled by hand. The plant consists
of several components which have been connected to one machine. The single components
are: pail destacking, leakage tester, optical pail
check regarding errors and contamination, filling station, lid placer and closing station. All
components within the machine are connected
via a common means of transport.
It was a considerable challenge for LANGGUTH‘s
engineers to develop the transport technology
due to the aqueous condition of Vaseline which
is nearly filled to the brim with a temperature
of 40 – 70°C. Nevertheless on this plant five
containers per minute can be filled and packed.
Furthermore Procter & Gamble was impressed
by the short process time of only three months
from order confirmation up to commissioning.

ie Entwicklung der Zivilisation – der
Verbreitung von Bildung, Hygiene und
Wohlstand einerseits und der globalen
Distribution von Gütern jeder Art andererseits –
hat einen unmittelbaren Einfluss auf die Funktion
von Etiketten. Definiert man Etikettierung ganz
allgemein als Aufbringen eines Informationsträgers auf einen Gegenstand, dann ist der
Beginn der Etikettierung im Mittelalter anzusiedeln, als Kaiser Friedrich II in seiner Amtszeit von 1220 – 1250 ein Dekret erließ, welches
Apotheker dazu verpflichtete Arzneimittel
auszuzeichnen. Dies geschah anfangs durch ein
Bindeetikett aus Pergament. Die Verfügbarkeit
von Papier, die Erfindung des Drucks mit beweglichen Lettern und die wachsende überregionale
Verbreitung von Konsumgütern waren die nächsten Faktoren, die den Gebrauch und die Funktion
von Etiketten beeinflussten. Neben der Informationsvermittlung nutzte man Etiketten zunehmend
auch zur optischen Aufwertung von Produkten
und damit als Verkaufsunterstützung. Diese
Tendenz wurde Anfang des 19. Jahrhunderts
durch die Erfindung der Lithographie zusätzlich
unterstützt. Geschaffen war ein wirtschaftliches
Massendruckverfahren auch für bildnerische
Darstellungen, welches sich schnell zur
führenden Reproduktionstechnik für Werbung
und Reklame entwickelte. Erst etwa 1950 wurde
die Lithographie von effizienteren Druckverfah-

ren abgelöst und mit der Weiterentwicklung
industrieller Abfüllung (z. B. Getränke) besonders nach dem 2. Weltkrieg waren auch effiziente Etikettiertechniken gefragt. Den Fortschritt
von der manuellen Etikettierung über Halbautomaten bis hin zu vollautomatisch arbeitenden
Etikettiermaschinen begleitete LANGGUTH in
den Anfangsjahren des Unternehmens. Die
erste vollautomatische Etikettiermaschine,
die „Unomatic“ mit der damaligen Höchstleistung von 7000 Etikettierungen / Stunde, stellte
LANGGUTH 1970 her. Mit der Einführung des
EAN-Codes (Strichcode) 1979 in Europa erhielten
die Etiketten selbst eine neue Funktion. Ihr Informationsgehalt wurde technisch abrufbar.
Mittlerweile benutzen Hersteller bei der Produktion aber auch zusätzliche Strichcodes, die an den
einzelnen Maschinenstationen gelesen werden
und dafür sorgen, dass sich die Stationen auf
das entsprechende Produkt umstellen. Immer
häufiger werden auch RFID-Systeme eingesetzt.
Sie ermöglichen die automatische Identifizierung
und Lokalisierung von Gegenständen. Gebinde,
die mit Etiketten mit einem RFID-Transponder
ausgestattet sind, können mit Hilfe von elektromagnetischen Wellen gelesen werden und so auf
ihrem gesamten Produktions-, Transport- und
Verkaufsweg kontrolliert werden. Und die Etiketten
der Zukunft? Wann darf LANGGUTH mit Ihnen
die ersten multimedialen Etiketten aufbringen?
T
he process of civilization – the increasing
education, hygienic standards and
prosperity on the one hand and the global
distribution of goods on the other hand – has a
direct influence on the function of labels. If the
definition of labelling is considered as the application of an information carrier onto an article
the Middle Ages can be regarded as the source
of labelling. At that time the German Emperor
Friedrich II from the House of Hohenstaufen
instructed the chemists in his term of office
1220 – 1250 to mark pharmaceutical products.
In the beginning this was done by a bind label
made of vellum. Furthermore the availability of
paper, the invention of printing methods with
movable letters and the increasing supraregional
distribution of consumer goods influenced the
use and functioning of labels. Apart from the
information transfer labels were used more
and more to improve the outer appearance of
products and were therefore applied as sales
suppor t. This trend was continued at the
beginning of the 19th century by the invention
of lithography. This was an economical mass
printing method which made the reprography of
illustrations possible and which became soon a
leading means of reproduction for prom o t i o n
and ad ver tisement. Only around 195 0
the lithography was replaced by more efficient
printing methods and with the development of
industrial filling (e. g. beverages) after the Second
World War also the labelling technology became
more important. LANGGUTH accompanied the
development from manual to semi-autmatic
machines and finally to fully automatic labellers.
The first fully automatic labelling machine
„Unomatic“ was manufactured in 1970 and
worked with a maximum capacity of 7000
labels / hour. Additionally also the labels got
a new function at that time. With the invention
of the EAN code (bar code) in Europe in 1979
the information contents of the label could be

ist. Unser Markt ist ursprünglich die Nahrungsund Molkerei-Industrie, aber da wir nun auch
für LANGGUTH tätig sind, gehören auch viele
andere Branchen dazu. Wir arbeiten als alleinige Vertretung für Großbritannien und Irland
und bieten unseren Kunden sowohl eine Verkaufsabteilung für Maschinen als auch einen
engagierten Einsatz im Ersatzteil- und Servicebereich. Das Team auf dem Foto zeigt zwei

2009 as a wholly owned subsidiary of
GRUNWALD UK Ltd. who have been
trading for over 10 years. Our market sector
is the food and dairy industry but now with
Langguth on board we will be active in many
other fields. We act as sole manufacturer’s agent,
providing a front line ser vice for machine
sales and offer customers a dedicated UK
spares and service desk. The team shown on
the photo consists of two sales managers who
regularly visit our existing and new customers.

Retrofit für 4711
Aus alt mach neu, hieß es für die LANGGUTH Auszubildenden
D
en Eingangsbereich des LANGGUTH
Firmensitzes in Senden-Bösensell ziert
eine Etikettiermaschine aus dem Jahre 1932, die firmenintern auch als „Königin“
bezeichnet wird. Die Maschine aus dem Gründungsjahr des Unternehmens war der Impulsgeber für eine besondere Kundenlösung. Die
Mäurer & Wirtz GmbH & Co. KG suchte nach
einer Etikettiermaschine für drei Sondergrößen
für die sogenannten Molanusflaschen ihres
weltberühmten Parfums „Echt Kölnisch Wasser
No. 4711“. Da die Nachfrage nach größeren Flaschen
(300 – 800 ml) besonders bei der amerikanischen
Kundschaft steigt, wollte Mäurer & Wirtz von der
aufwändigen Handetikettierung zu einer teilautomatisierten Nassleim-Etikettierung übergehen.
Die eingangs erwähnte „Königin“ brachte auf
der LANGGUTH Hausmesse im Dezember 2008
dann die entscheidende Idee. Da die „Königin“
selbstverständlich nicht verkäuflich ist, überlegte man, ob es nicht möglich wäre, eine andere

ältere Maschine für die erforderlichen Zwecke
umzurüsten. Der Auftrag wurde konkret, als
LANGGUTH eine Maschine aus dem Jahr 1986
zurücknahm, weil der Besitzer sie nach Firmenauflösung nicht selbst entsorgen wollte. Nach
Absprache mit Mäurer & Wirtz machten sich die
acht LANGGUTH Auszubildenden mit Begeisterung an die besondere Aufgabe, diese über 20
Jahre alte Maschine für die 4711-Flaschen fit zu
machen. Eine aufwändige Generalüberholung
brachte die Maschine aus den 80er Jahren auf
den erforderlichen Stand und verhalf ihr zu neuem Glanz.
Mäurer & Wirtz war so zufrieden mit dieser Maschine, dass sie die LANGGUTH Auszubildenden im Oktober 2009 zu einer Besichtigung des
Werks nach Stolberg einluden. „Es war ein ganz
besonderes Erlebnis 'unsere Maschine' an der
originalen Produktionsstätte im Einsatz zu
sehen“, danken die LANGGUTH Auszubildenden.

Retrofit for 4711
Fresh perfume from an old machine – a project done by LANGGUTH trainees
T
he LANGGUTH foyer of the head office in
Senden-Bösensell is decorated by a labelling machine from the year 1932 which
is internally called „Queen“. This machine from
the founding year inspired a special customer
solution. The company Mäurer & Wirtz GmbH
& Co. KG was looking for a labeller to process
three special sizes of the so-called Molanus
bottles containing their world-famous perfume
„Eau de Cologne No. 4711“. As more and more
customers especially in the USA demand bigger
bottles (300 – 800 ml) Mäurer & Wirtz intended
to change from the expensive manual labelling
to a semi-automatic wet glue labelling solution.
During the LANGGUTH in-house exhibition in
December 2008 the above mentioned „Queen“
gave the decisive suggestion. As of course the
„Queen“ is not sold it was considered to convert
another old machine for this purpose. The order became concrete as LANGGUTH overtook
a machine from the year 1986 as the previous
possessor did not want to depollute it after his
company had ceased to exist. After agreement
with Mäurer & Wirtz the eight trainees from
LANGGUTH were keen to upgrade this more
than 20 years old machine for the 4711 bottles.
An extensive general overhaul updated the
machine from the 80s to the required state.
Mäurer & Wirtz was so content with this machine
that they invited the LANGGUTH trainees in
October 2009 to Stolberg for a company inspection.
„It was a very special event to see ‘our machine‘
in the original production plant in operation“,
emphasize the LANGGUTH trainees.
