• ARTR (Almost Ready To Run)
• An accurate scale model of the Royal Navy’s battle cruiser of 1918. The Admiral class ships
were developed during the First World War to counter the threat of the German Mackensen
classes, but only HMS Hood was completed. The vessel was commissioned in 1920, while
her three sister ships were cancelled and broken up.
• The ship was named after Admiral Samuel Hood, first Viscount Hood (1724 – 1816)
• The Battle of Skagerrak showed that battle cruisers were vulnerable to steeply angled artillery
fire, but construction of the Hood continued despite this discouraging experience, even though
the idea of developing a completely new design with improved armour was under consideration at the time.
• In the 1920’s the ship became a national monument in Great Britain after gaining world-wide
fame by completing a circumnavigation of the globe.
• In 1941 the Hood, together with the Prince of Wales, took part in the hunt for the Bismarck
(accompanied by the Prinz Eugen). During this action the ship came under devastating
steep-angle fire from the Bismarck, which succeeded in gaining a hit in the main magazine.
The gigantic resultant explosion split the Hood in two, and the wreck sank in just two minutes;
there were only three survivors.
• The Prince of Wales was subsequently forced to break off the fight and turn away after suffering severe damage from artillery.

• ARTR (Almost Ready To Run)
• Originalgetreuer Nachbau des Schlachtkreuzers der Royal Navy von 1918. Die Schiffe der
Admiralsklasse wurden während des ersten Weltkriegs als Gegenstück für die deutsche
Mackensen Klassen entwickelt. Aber nur die HMS Hood wurde fertig gestellt und 1920 in
Dienst gestellt. Die drei Schwesterschiffe wurden storniert und abgebrochen.
• Das Schiff war benannt nach Admiral Samuel Hood, dem 1. Viscount Hood (1724–1816)
• Trotz der schlechten Erfahrungen während der Skagerrakschlacht mit der Gefährdung der
Schlachtkreuzer durch Steilfeuer, wurde das Schiff weitergebaut. Obwohl die Überlegung
vorhanden war, ein komplett neues mit verbesserter Panzerung zu entwickeln.
• In den 20er Jahren, bei einer Weltumrundung wurde das Schiff weltweit bekannt und in
Großbritannien ein Nationaldenkmal.
• 1941 wurde die Hood mit der Prince of Wales bei der Jagd nach der Bismarck (in Begleitung
der Prinz Eugen) eingesetzt. Hierbei geriet das Schiff in das verheerende Steilfeuer der Bismarck und dieser gelang dabei ein Treffer in das Hauptmagazin. Dabei wurde die Hood durch
eine gewaltige Explosion in zwei Teile gesprengt und sank in nur 2 Minuten. Leider gab es nur
drei Überlebende.
• Die Prince of Wales musste dann den Kampf nach schweren Treffern auch abbrechen und
abdrehen.
