Biography 2009
From ʻnewcomerʼ to an internationally acclaimed DJ & producer. With gigs in Beijing, Miami, Sydney
and London. The German born Patric La Funk has come a long way since his first residency and 2009
is going to be his year to shine!
After a succession of Beatport top tens, an Australian tour, gigs in all over Europe and residencies in
Sven Väths Cocoon club and Fedde Le Grandʼs Flamingo Nights, the big hitters of the house scene
are eager to see what else this lad has up his sleeve.
It was only a question of time that, after numerous remixes for colleagues such as Mark Knight,
Axwell, or Steve Angelo, superstar DJs like Fedde Le Grand or Spainʼs No.1 Wally Lopez also wanted
to hook up with him for production work.
New releases and remixes are also planned with his longtime studio partner Timo Becker on their
label, Timbee.
So thereʼs loads to look forward to in the coming months and Patricʼs year aint over yet!

Q & A with Patric La Funk
What can we expect from you in 2009 – what important releases and upcoming gigs are on
their way?
Well, Iʼve been touring for the past half year and not really been in the studio much. But the time out of
the studio has been a huge inspiration and given me tons of new ideas for when I get back to
production work! Iʼve got a lot of upcoming remix work going on and some coops with Fedde, Wally
Lopez and Noir. My next single ʻYeahʼ, with remixes from DBN and Darwin & Backwall, will be coming
out on Dalbruck & Kleinʼs label We Play.
As for upcoming gigs, Iʼm really looking forward to my monthly residency in Sven Vathʼs Cocoon Club
in Frankfurt, and i can't wait to get out to Ibiza to play with Fedde at his Flamingo Night in Pacha!
How did you get to team up with Fedde le Grand and play at his Flamingo Nights?
Through my booking agency Sushi2000, I played a lot of gigs with Fedde and we became the best of
friends. After I did the Flamingo Australian tour with him, we decided to carry on gigging together and
to hook up for studio work. The whole Flamingo gang has become like a family for me and Iʼm really
looking forward to the Flamingo Nights at Pacha, Ibiza!!
What do you think about DJs using Notebooks or Serato Scratch?
After the state my CD wallet is in most mornings after a gig, i sometimes wish that Iʼd start using a
laptop to DJ with. But on the other hand I need something to rummage through, like a CD map, or hold
something in my hand and I just can't get used to seeing DJs behind the mixer staring at their laptop
screens. But hey, itʼs fine with me - as long as the sound is good, DJs can play their music on what
they like!
In what direction do you think electronic music will develop over the next year?
Hmmm, good question. Personally, I think that the whole style of electronic music is returning to the
original ʻhouseʼ sound and becoming more melodic. Also, vocals seem to be coming back into style,
but I can't speak for everyone, thatʼs just my own personal view.
What does the residency in the Cocoon Club mean to you?
I mean weʼre talking about THE Cocoon Club and now Iʼm a resident there - Iʼm definitely more than
happy to be part of it!

Was können wir 2009 von Dir erwarten? Welche wichtigen Releases und interessanten Clubtermine
stehen an?
Well, im letzten halben Jahr war ich viel unterwegs und daher wenig im Studio. Doch das ist auch
manchmal gut so, um wieder frische Ideen zu bekommen! So stehen in nächster Zeit eine Menge
Remixes, Singles und fette Kooperationen mit Fedde le Grand, Wally Lopez oder Noir an. Meine
nächste Single „Yeah“ wird mit Remixen von DBN und Darwin & Backwall auf Dabruck & Klein's Label
We Plaxy erscheinen.
Was Clubtermine angeht bin ich sehr froh, dass ich seit Anfang diesen Jahres einer Residency in
Sven Väths Cocoon Club Frankfurt nachgehen kann.
Weiterhin werde im Sommer auch mal bei den Flamingo Nights im Pacha Ibiza mit dabei sein!
Wie kommt es zur Zusammenarbeit mit Fedde le Grand und der Residency bei seinen Flamingo
Nights?
Durch meine Agentur sushi2000 habe ich viele Termine mit Fedde gespielt. Wir verstehen uns super
und nachdem ich schon mit den Jungs von Flamingo in Australien auf Tour war, haben wir
beschlossen, weiter gemeinsam um die Häuser zu ziehen. Wir sind wirklich eine family geworden! Ich
freue mich riesig auf die Flamingo Nights im Pacha Ibiza!
Wie stehst Du zum Auflegen mit dem Notebook / Serato Scratch, etc ?
Ne ordentliche Sache! Mein cd wallet sieht morgens nach einem Set nämlich aus als ob eine Bombe
eingeschlagen hätte! Aber das ist Nichts für mich! Mir ist es wichtig, auch etwas Physisches wie eine
cd in der Hand zu halten und in meiner Mappe zu kramen. Es ist immer komisch, Djs hinter einem
Mixer zu sehen, die auf ein notebook screen starren!
In welche Richtung wird sich die elektronische Musik in den nächsten Monaten bewegen? Trends?
Mhh, schwierige Frage. Für mich persönlich wird es eher wieder ein bisschen housiger und
melodischer. Vielleicht ein paar coole Vocals. Das ist aber meine persönliche Empfindung.
Was bedeutet Dir die monatliche Residency im Cocoon Club?
Ich bin super happy, dass ich einmal im Monat samstags dort spielen darf. Ich glaube, ich brauche
nicht erwähnen, was und wer alles hinter dem Namen Cocoon steht. Gerade im Ausland achten die
lLute sehr stark auf diesen Club!
