LAND UND LEUTE
Namibia ist mit einer Fläche von rund 825.000
Quadratkilometern zwar mehr als doppelt so
groß wie Deutschland, beheimatet dabei aber
nur zwei Millionen Menschen. Neben weiten,
unberührten Savannen bezaubert Namibia
durch abwechslungsreiche Highlights. Vom
afrikanischen Busch über steinige Gebirge
bis zu Wüsten und Küsten – Namibia wird Ihr
Offroad-Herz höherschlagen lassen.
Sprachen
Die Amtssprache Namibias ist Englisch. Doch
zahlreiche Einheimische sprechen ebenfalls
Afrikaans und als Erbe aus der Kolonialzeit
sogar Deutsch. Zusätzlich dazu existiert eine
Vielzahl von Stammessprachen der Ureinwohner.
EINREISE
Internationale Flüge
Bitte achten Sie bei der Buchung der Flüge
darauf, dass der korrekte Name, analog zum
Namen im Reisepass, angegeben werden
muss. Abweichungen können unter Umständen
zu Problemen bei der Einreise führen bzw.
kann diese sogar verweigert werden.
Bei Flugbuchungen über Johannesburg achten
Sie bitte auf eine Umsteigezeit von mindestens
zwei Stunden.

um 10 Uhr. Bitte planen Sie Ihren Flug
dementsprechend.
Visa & Reiseunterlagen
Während Ihrer Reise sollten Sie die folgenden
Unterlagen mit sich führen:

Für einige Länder herrscht Visumpflicht für die
Einreise. Die Beantragung des Visums kann bis
zu drei Monate dauern. Bitte beachten Sie dies
bei der Buchung Ihrer Reise. Die Erfüllung der
Einreisebestimmungen liegt in der Verantwortung des/der Reisenden.
Im Flugzeug
Vor der Einreise nach Namibia muss ein
„Arrival/Departure Form“ ausgefüllt werden.
Dieses wird in der Regel im Flugzeug von
den Flugbegleitern an Sie ausgehändigt. Auf
diesem Formular werden die Kontaktpersonen
sowie die Kontakttelefonnummern abgefragt.

Transfer
Sie werden vom BMW Driving Experience
Team am Flughafen in Empfang genommen
und am Ende der Reise dort verabschiedet.
STRASSENVERHÄLTNISSE
Namibia ist gut erschlossen. Neben wenigen
asphaltierten Straßen gibt es überwiegend
Sand- und Schotterpisten.
Bitte verhalten Sie sich in der Dunkelheit
besonders aufmerksam, da viele Tiere
nachtaktiv sind. Dadurch erhöht sich das
Unfallrisiko bei Sonnenaufgang und Sonnenuntergang.
In Namibia gilt Linksverkehr.
Der Besitz eines internationalen Führerscheins

With an area of around 825,000 square
kilometres, Namibia is more than twice the size
of Germany, but home to just two million people.
In addition to the vast untouched savannah,
Namibia has a variety of captivating highlights.
From the African bush, through the rocky
mountains, to deserts and coasts – Namibia
will get your off-road heart beating faster.
The official language of Namibia is English.
Many locals also speak Afrikaans and some
even speak German as a legacy from colonial
times. There are also many tribal languages
spoken by the indigenous tribes.
ARRIVAL
International Flights
Note that the correct name, as stated in your
passport, must be given when booking flights.
Any differences may cause problems on
arrival, or you may even be refused entry to
the country.
When booking flights via Johannesburg make
sure that you allow at least two hours to make
your connecting flight.
Your BMW X5 Multiday Tour Namibia starts
at 10 a.m. Please plan your flight accordingly.
Visa & Travel documents
Make sure you bring the following documents
with you on your trip:
– Ticket and/or an e-ticket for your flight
– Passport
– Copies of your passport and other
documents in case of loss or theft
(keep separately from the originals)
– International driving license
Check the exact visa and travel requirements
before departure, for example, on Foreign Office
websites. This may change at short notice.
Some countries require visas. It can take up to
three months to apply for a visa. Take this into
account when booking your trip. Please note
that travellers are responsible for making sure
that they meet entry requirements.
In the Air
An “Arrival/Departure Form” needs to be
completed before entering Namibia. This is
usually handed out by cabin crew while you are
in the air. You need to enter contact persons
and contact telephone numbers on this form.
This information is in the information pack that
you receive before departure.
Transfer
The BMW Driving Experience Team will be at
the airport to welcome you on arrival, and will
take you back to the airport at the end of the
trip.
ROAD CONDITIONS
Namibia has a good network of driving
surfaces. As well as some paved roads, other
surfaces are mainly sand and gravel tracks.
Please pay particular attention during the hours
of darkness since many animals are nocturnal.
This increases the risk of accidents at sunrise
and sunset.
Traffic drives on the left-hand side of the road
in Namibia.
You must hold an international driving license.
Please adhere to the relevant regulations with
regard to maximum speeds. The BMW Driving
Experience assumes no liability for events
related to criminal activity.
MEDICAL PROTECTIVE MEASURES
We recommend that you keep all prescription
and urgently needed medication in your hand
luggage. The Federal Foreign Office recommends
you to check that your standard vaccinations
are up to date according to the Robert Koch
Institute before travelling, and that you get any
vaccinations due.
Use insect repellant and wear long-sleeved
tops and long trousers in the evening to avoid
insect bites. Since you will be in Central
Namibia during the dry season it is unlikely that
you will be bothered by mosquitoes. A course
of malaria tablets is usually not required.
Stomach and intestinal discomfort may occur
in Namibia, as in all exotic destinations.
Diarrhoea is a reaction to bacteria that the
intestinal flora is not familiar with. Particularly
in the first few days of your stay you should
avoid drinking tap water and bring corresponding medication with you as a precaution.
We ask travellers with a critical state of health
who need regular access to electricity to
contact us in advance so that we can make
the necessary arrangements in time.
We ask you to drink enough fluids during
the trip.

Gepäck
Die Währung in Namibia ist der Namibische
Dollar (NAD). Wir empfehlen, zunächst einen
Bargeldbetrag im Wert von ca. 100–200 € am
Flughafen-Terminal (Ankunft) in Windhoek
abzuheben. Geldautomaten und ein Bankschalter
zum Geldwechseln befinden sich am Flughafen.
Kleidung
Es ist ratsam, einige Vorsichtsmaßnahmen
zu beachten, auch wenn Namibia generell ein
sicheres Land ist:
Wertgegenstände und die benötigte medikamentöse Versorgung sollten Sie im Handgepäck mitnehmen. Achten Sie dabei aber auf

Der größte Teil Namibias verfügt über ein gut
funktionierendes Telefonnetz. Dieses bietet
im Allgemeinen den international gewohnten
Komfort. In einigen ländlichen Regionen ist
der Empfang eingeschränkt.
Eine kostenfreie WLAN-Verbindung ist in
zahlreichen Restaurants und Unterkünften
zugänglich. Des Weiteren kann über mobile
Prepaid-Karten der Internetzugang kostenpflichtig erworben werden.
Essen
Namibia zeichnet sich durch eine vielfältige
afrikanische und internationale Küche aus.
Freuen Sie sich auf kulinarische Highlights wie
zum Beispiel erstklassige fangfrische Austern.
Bitte informieren Sie uns rechtzeitig über
Allergien und Sonderwünsche, da ansonsten
in bestimmten Restaurants/Unterkünften eine
entsprechende Verpflegung nicht möglich ist.
Wir empfehlen Ihnen, einen Pullover, eine
Jacke sowie festes, knöchelhohes, bequemes
Schuhwerk, Schal, Kopfbedeckung, Sonnenbrille und Sonnenschutz mit hohem Lichtschutzfaktor im Reisegepäck mitzuführen.
Für Ihre Safari ist sportliche, leichte und
bequeme Kleidung aus Baumwolle oder
Mikrofaser am besten geeignet. Sie sollte
dem Klima angepasst sein: leicht und luftdurchlässig. Für die Tierbeobachtung sollten
Sie möglichst Safaribekleidung in neutralen
Farben wie Dunkelgrün, Braun oder Khaki
wählen.
Des Weiteren empfiehlt es sich, Badebekleidung im Gepäck zu haben.
Persönliche Ausrüstung
Taschenlampe, Kameraausstattung, Fernglas,
Batterien und Ersatzspeicherkarten, Sonnenund Mückenschutzpräparate, ggf. Föhn.
An Zoll- und Grenzkontrollen sowie in Flughäfen und militärischen Einrichtungen sind
Foto- und Videoaufnahmen untersagt.
Bitte fragen Sie Personen, falls diese Teil
eines Motivs werden sollen, oder deuten Sie
dies durch eine entsprechende Geste an.
The tour leader speaks German and English;
it is vital that you understand the instructions.
If this is not the case, an interpreter must be
present subject to a charge.
The power supply in Namibia is 220/240 volts
alternating current. Since three-pronged plug
sockets are in use you will need an adapter for
European plugs. It is recommended to bring a
small, bright pocket torch (LED) with you.
On rare occasions snakebites and scorpion
stings may be suffered on safari. As a precaution,
sturdy boots are to be worn on these excursions.
Do not pick up any stones or put your hand in
any rocky holes! This is where these animals
prefer to live. Always carry a torch with you in
the evening.
It is wise to take some precautions, even
though Namibia is generally a safe country:
Never leave your luggage unattended
at the airport or at customs inspection.
Keep valuables and necessary medical
supplies in your hand luggage. Note the
airline regulations for hand luggage.
Register necessary liquids and medication,
and bring a doctor’s certificate with you.
Take care of your valuables, e.g. jewellery,
camera and wallet. Do not wear eye-catching
jewellery and valuable watches in public,
or leave them at home altogether.
Use the room safes that are available in all
accommodation.
TRAVEL INSURANCE
Travel health insurance is mandatory. We
also recommend travel cancellation insurance,
including a cutting short of the trip and baggage
insurance. Please purchase a travel insurance
without an ownrisk excess charge.
Check whether your health insurance fund
already covers Namibia, and if not, purchase
health insurance for non-European countries.
All standard insurance companies offer this.
Clothing
Note that the weather in Africa is changeable.
The temperature can vary greatly between
daytime and nighttime, as well as over the
course of a day and between the various
regions.
We recommend that you bring a jumper, jacket
and sturdy, ankle high, comfortable footwear,
scarf, head covering, sunglasses and
sunscreen with a high SPF with you.
Communications
The majority of Namibia has a fully functioning
telephone network. This generally provides
the usual international standards. Network is
restricted in some rural regions.
Free Wi-Fi is available in many restaurants
and most accommodation. It is also possible
to purchase pre-paid SIM cards with internet
access.
Food
Namibia has a varied African and international
cuisine. Look forward to culinary delights such
as high-quality freshly caught oysters.
Please inform us of any allergies or dietary
requirements in time as otherwise it will not be
possible to provide suitable meals at certain
restaurants/accommodation.
Money / Currency
The currency in Namibia is the Namibian Dollar
(NAD). We recommend withdrawing an initial
amount of approx. €100-200 worth in cash at
the aiport terminal (Arrivals) in Windhoek. Cash
machines and a bank counter for changing
money are available at the airport.
For safety, never carry large amounts
of cash on you.
Sporty, light, comfortable clothing made of
cotton or microfibres is recommended for your
safari. It should suit the climate: light and
breathable. While out on safari, where possible
your clothing should be held in neutral colours,
such as dark green, brown, or khaki.
It is also recommended to bring swimwear.
Personal Equipment
Torch, camera, binoculars, batteries and
spare memory cards, sun protection and insect
repellant, hairdryer if required.
Baggage
Note that your baggage will spend most days
in the BMW X5. It will be exposed to a lot of
dust and sand. Make sure that the lock works
properly and that the suitcase is dust-proof.
Photography
Photography and filming is prohibited at
customs inspection and border control, as well
as at airports and military facilities. Ask people
if you want to include them in your picture,
or use corresponding gestures to indicate your
intention.
