Herstellungsverfahren
Das ätherische Muskatellersalbeiblütenöl wird durch Wasserdampfdestillation aus den Blüten des
Muskatellersalbei (Salvia sclarea) gewonnen. Dabei dient heißer Wasserdampf als Trägerstoff für die
leicht flüchtigen organischen Komponenten der Pflanzenteile. Durch die Nicht-Mischbarkeit der
organischen Bestandteile des ätherischen Öles und des Wassers findet beim Abkühlen eine spontane
Phasentrennung statt, so dass das reine ätherische Öl abgeschieden werden kann. Die Ausbeute ist
mit etwa 0.1% recht gering.[1,2]
Manufacturing method
The essential clary sage flower oil is obtained by water steam distillation of the blossoms of clary sage (Salvia
sclarea). Hot water steam is used as a carrier for the volatile organic compounds of the parts of the plant. Due to
the non miscibility of the organic compounds with water, the phases readily separate upon cooling and the
essential oil can be easily separated. The yield is almost low with only 0.1%.[1,2]
Botanischer Ursprung des Muskatellersalbeiblütenöls
Die Art Muskatellersalbei (Salvia sclarea) gehört zur Gattung Salbei (Salvia,
Unterfamilie: Nepetoideae) in der Familie der Lippenblütler (Lamiaceae), die
zur Ordnung der Lippenblütlerartigen (Lamiales) zählt. Muskatellersalbei
wird auch als Muskat-Salbei oder Römischer Salbei benannt und stammt
ursprünglich aus Mittel- und Osteuropa sowie den westlichen Teilen
Asiens. Muskatellersalbei ist eine zwei- oder mehrjährige, krautige
Pflanze. Sie erreicht Wuchshöhen zwischen 50 und 100 cm. Die Stängel
stehen aufrecht, sind reichlich verzweigt und haben im oberen Bereich
Drüsen. Die Blätter sind einfach gebaut, breit-eiförmig bis herzförmig und
grau behaart. Muskatellersalbei bildet zur Blütezeit im Juni und Juli
Scheinquirle mit weißen oder lilafarbigen Deckblättern aus.[3]
Botanical origin of essential clary sage flower oil
The species clary sage (Salvia sclarea) belongs to the genus Salvia (Salvia, subfamily: Nepetoideae) in the mint
family (Lamiaceae), which belongs to the order of Lamiales. Clary sage is also called as nutmeg sage or Roman
sage and is native to Central and Eastern Europe and the western parts of Asia. Clary Sage is a two-or perennial
herbaceous plant. It reaches stature heights between 50 and 100 cm. The stems are erect, plentiful branched and
have glands on the upper area. The leaves are simply built, broad-ovate to heart-shaped and gray-haired. In
bloom in June and July, clary sage forms false whorl with white or purple colored covers.[3]

Charakterisierung
Das ätherische Muskatellersalbeiblütenöl ist eine leicht bewegliche, gelbe Flüssigkeit. Es besitzt
einen aromatischen, balsamisch-würzigen Duft mit Zitronen-Noten. Das ätherische Öl löst sich gut in
Alkohol (1:3, 90% Ethanol), Pflanzenölen und anderen ätherischen Ölen. Ätherisches
Muskatellersalbeiblütenöl ist nahezu unlöslich in Wasser. Hauptbestandteile sind Linalylacetat und
Linalool. In geringerer Konzentration sind Geraniol und Limonen enthalten. Der Inhaltsstoff Sclareol
ist für den balsamischen Ambra-ähnlichen Geruch verantwortlich.[2]
Characterisation
Essential clary sage flower oil is a mobile, light yellow coloured liquid. It has a characteristic aromatic,
balsamic and spicy scent with citrus like notes. The essential oil is good soluble in alcohol (1:3, 90% ethanol),
vegetable oils and other essential oils. Essential clary sage flower oil is almost insoluble in water. Major
compounds are linalyl acetate and linalool. Geraniol and limonene are also included in lower concentrations. The
ingredient sclareol is responsible for the balmy amber-like odour.[2]
Verwendung in der Küche
Ätherisches Muskatellersalbeiblütenöl wird im Allgemeinen nicht zur Zubereitung von Speisen und
Getränken verwendet. Es kann aber zur Aromatisierung von alkoholischen Getränken wie z. B.
Likören eingesetzt werden. Die Blätter können wie die des Salbei zur Würzung von Schweine- und
Lammfleisch oder Käsegerichten dienen.[4]
Use in kitchen
Essential clary sage flower oil is not generally used in the preparation of food and beverages. But it can be
used to flavor alcoholic beverages such as liqueurs. The leaves can be used similar to sage leaves to flavor pork,
lamb or cheese dishes.[4]
Arzneiliche Verwendung, Phytotherapie
Die Inhaltsstoffe des ätherischen Muskatellersalbeiblütenöls besitzen eine Reihe von gesundheitlich
relevanten Eigenschaften. Muskatellersalbei war eine der wichtigsten heiligen Pflanzen für die Kelten.
Wein und andere Getränke wurden mit ihm aromatisiert und erhielten eine zusätzliche, berauschende
Wirkung. Der Inhaltsstoff Sclareol hat eine Östrogen-ähnliche Struktur und neuere Studien haben
gezeigt, dass ätherisches Muskatellersalbeiblütenöl daher auch hormonähnliche Wirkungen
aufweist. Es regt daher den Verlauf der Monatsblutung an (emmenagoge Wirkung) und kann bei
Amenorrhoe (ausbleibender Periode), bei prämenstrualen Beschwerden (PMS), Dysmenorrhoe
(allgemeinen Menstruationsbeschwerden) und bei Komplikationen in der Prämenopause angewandt
werden. Als Anwendung haben sich Massagen, Ölbäder und die Duftlampe bewährt. Bei

auftretenden PMS-Spasmen wirkt ätherisches Muskatellersalbeiblütenöl zudem krampflösend. Bei
Krampfadern (Varizen), Hämorrhoiden und Durchblutungsstörungen kann ätherisches
Muskatellersalbeiblütenöl positiv auf das Gefäßsystem wirken, wenn es als Auftragung oder Ölbad
angewandt wird.[3,5]
Ölmischung bei kongestiven Schmerzen:
10 Tr. Kamillenöl blau
5 Tr. Muskatellersalbei
15 Tr. Thymianöl
30 mL Mandelöl
Die ätherischen Öle werden im Mandelöl gelöst. Mit dieser Mischung werden Unterbauch und
Zwerchfell 2 mal täglich massiert.
Medical use, phytotherapy
The compounds of essential clary sage flower oil have a number of health-related properties. Clary sage was
one of the most sacred plants for the Celts. Wine and other drinks were flavored with it and received an
additional intoxicating effect. The ingredient sclareol has an estrogen-like structure, and recent studies have
shown that essential clary sage flower oil therefore also has hormone-like effects. It therefore stimulates the
development of menses and can be used in amenorrhea (absence of periods), with premenstrual symptoms
(PMS), dysmenorrhea (general menstrual cramps) and complications of pre menopause. As application,
massages, oil baths and the incense burner have been proven. With occurring PMS spasms, essential clary sage
flower oil also acts antispasmodic. With varicose veins, hemorrhoids and circulatory disorders, essential clary
sage flower oil can have a positive effect on the vascular system, if it is applied as a pad or oil bath.[3,5]
Oil mixture with congestive pain:
10 dr. chamomile oil blue
5 dr. clary sage flower oil
15 dr. thyme oil
30 mL almond oil
The essential oils are dissolved in almond oil. With this mixture, the lower abdomen and diaphragm are
massaged two times daily.
Aromatherapie
In der Aromatherapie wird ätherisches Muskatellersalbeiblütenöl zur Beruhigung des ZentralNerven-Systems bei nervöser Müdigkeit, Erschöpfung oder allgemeiner Nervosität eingesetzt. Es
wirkt stark euphorisierend bei depressiver Verstimmung oder Wochenbettdepression. Gleichzeitig
wirkt ätherisches Muskatellersalbeiblütenöl angstlösend (anxiolytisch) und beruhigend bei
allgemeiner Angst, Anspannung und Stress. Als Anwendung werden Ölbäder, Massagen und die
Duftlampe empfohlen.[5,6]
Aromatherapy
In aromatherapy, essential clary sage flower oil is used to calm the central nervous system with nervous
fatigue, exhaustion or general nervousness. It is a strong euphoric and can be used with depressed mood and in
postpartum depression. At the same essential clary sage flower oil acts anxiolytic and soothes general anxiety,
tension and stress. As application, oil baths, massages and the aroma lamp are recommended.[5,6]

Anwendung in der Kosmetik
In der Kosmetik wird das ätherische Muskatellersalbeiblütenöl überwiegend für Phantasie-Noten
oder Ambra-, Chypre- und Tabak-Noten verwendet. Ätherisches Muskatellersalbeiblütenöl eignet
sich sehr gut für Mischungen mit Bergamotte, Cardamom, Cistrose, Grapefruit, Jasmin, Kiefernadel,
Koriander, Lavendel, Rosengeranie, Sandelholz, Wacholder, Weihrauch, Weißtanne, Zedernholz und
Rose.[2,5]
Use in Cosmetic
In cosmetics, essential clary sage flower oil is used primarily for fantasy notes or amber, chypre and tobacco
notes. Essential clary sage flower oil is ideal for blending with bergamot, cardamom, rock rose, grapefruit,
jasmine, pine, coriander, lavender, geranium, sandalwood, juniper, incense, white fir, cedar and rose.[2,5]
Anwendungs- und Warnhinweise, Nebenwirkungen
Einige der Inhaltstoffe von ätherischem Muskatellersalbeiblütenöl sind als gesundheitlich
bedenklich einzustufen. Die Inhaltsstoffe Linalool und Limonen besitzen ein allergenes Potential.
Ätherisches Muskatellersalbeiblütenöl besitzt eine euphorisierende Wirkung und sollte daher nicht
in Kombination mit Alkohol eingenommen werden. Ätherisches Muskatellersalbeiblütenöl eignet
sich nicht für die Anwendung bei Babys, Kleinkindern und in der Schwangerschaft. Bei der äußeren
Anwendung bei Säuglingen sollten nur geringe Konzentrationen (< 0.5%) eingesetzt werden. Beachten
Sie auch die Hinweise im Sicherheitsdatenblatt und der Produktspezifikation.[2,5]
Application and warning notes, side effects
Some of the compounds of essential clary sage flower oil are classified as hazardous to health. Limonene and
linalool have an allergenic potential. Essential clary sage flower oil has euphoric effects and therefore should
not be taken in combination with alcohol. Essential clary sage flower oil is not suitable for use in babies,
young children and during pregnancy. At the external use in infants only low concentrations (<0.5%) should be
used. Also note the reference in the material safety data sheet and the product specification.[2,5]
