Rectal Cancer Treatment
Rectal Cancer Treatment Heidelberg October 9thth - 11thth, 2003 Department of General Surgery University of Heidelberg Welcome Message Dear participants, dear colleagues, We would cordially like to invite all colleagues and friends, involved and interested in the management of rectal cancer, to the International Rectal Cancer Meeting of the General Department of Surgery of the University of Heidelberg. We are looking forward to welcoming you to discuss the latest results in the management of rectal cancer. The scientific program will focus on the treatment of rectal cancer, as well as on functional outcome after treatment. In addition, the participants will have the opportunity to learn more about “fast-track colorectal surger y”. We are delighted to be able to present the leaders in these fields here in Heidelberg. We welcome you here in Heidelberg on behalf of the University of Heidelberg with its venerable reputation as the oldest university in Germany and one of the oldest in Europe. From its earliest beginnings over 600 years ago it has set out to become a center of international scientific and academic endeavor. Heidelberg is known not only as the romantic and picturesque city on the Neckar River but also as a cosmopolitan, dynamic and an up-to-date center for science and research. The German Academy of Sciences and the Center of Jewish Studies are both based here, as are the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ), the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), five facilities of the Max Planck Society for the Advancement of Science and more than 30 schools for language and management training. The meeting is held at the German Cancer Research Center, a center which has gained worldwide reputation for excellence and maintains numerous national and international collaborations. We will try to make this meeting a memorable scientific event where all aspects of rectal cancer management are adequately discussed and, last not least, where we can meet with our colleagues to enjoy friendship in the atmosphere of the famous old city of Heidelberg!
