The i-bus® Tool is optional, i.e. the ABB
i-bus® KNX devices must still be
commissioned using just the ETS


divergences to the ETS project can
result through the i-bus® Tool

The i-bus® Tool accesses an ABB i-bus®
KNX device via a standard KNX
interface (USB, IP) with the assistance
of the physical address

When the i-bus Tool is connected to a
KNX device, the device-specific plug-in
displays the functions that are possible
for this device type

The system integrator can trigger the
desired functions, read values, simulate
states and make settings for the
connected device (e.g. scenes)

The information from status bytes can,
for example, be represented as plain
text

Functions are only available if they have
been enabled in the ETS

Disabled functions are greyed out or not
visible

No assignment of group addresses
required

If it is not possible to execute a function,
the parameterization in the ETS should
be checked

If the KNX interface is still used by
another application (e.g. ETS), it may be
necessary to end this first

The i-bus® Tool is free-of-charge


The DALI Tool is mandatory for setting up the KNX DALI devices

Addressing DALI devices, e.g. ballasts, dimmers

Assignment of the DALI devices into DALI groups

Display of all lamp and ballast faults

Commissioning of constant light control (DALI Light Controller)
Additional new features
IP Discover Tool (former IP-Firmware Tool)

All discovered KNX IP devices are displayed

If one or several devices are selected, with the control buttons in the
menu bar different actions can be performed (open website, blink LED
and restart device)

Hint:
A virus scanner or firewall can
block the IP communication!

Additional features
Demo Modus

The demo mode shows the functionality of the i-bus® Tool without
connection to the KNX bus

A device must be selected and by clicking "Demo" the plugin of the
device is displayed

This is only for demonstration purposes, there is no functionality
available and the tool is not connected to the KNX bus

Currently, the following devices are supported (March 2014)

DALI Gateway: DG/S 1.1, DG/S 1.16.1 and DGN/S 1.16.1

DALI Light Controller: DLR/A 4.8.1.1 and DLR/S 8.16.1M

Light Controller: LR/S x.16.1

Energy Actuator and Module: SE/S 3.16.1 and EM/S 3.16.1

Blind/Roller Shutter Actuators: JRA/Sx.y.z.1

Line Coupler: LK/S 4.2

Power Supply Diagnosis: SV/S 30.320.2.1 and SV/S 30.640.5.1
… and new devices are added continuously
Hint: Not all former application or firmware versions
can be supported (e.g. DALI Gateway)

Download and install i-bus® Tool

Adjust the settings

Select the KNX interface

Check for updates

Connect to a KNX device via the
physical address

Test the ETS parameters, functions,
read values, simulate states and make
settings (e.g. scene values)

If necessary change ETS parameter,
download the application and check
again via the i-bus® Tool
Installation

Download the i-bus Tool (www.abb.com/KNX ~4 MB)

Extract the file (self extracting ZIP-file)

Double click the file „ibusTool.exe“

Installation routine will be started

Agree to the “Licence Agreement for use of Software”

Select KNX interface

After the i-bus® Tool has been successfully started, the KNX interface
must be selected

This can be undertaken via “Settings” (ETS connection manager)

If a KNX interface is already parameterized, this can be selected
directly via the item “Connect” (main menu)


In this window a connection to a KNX device can be established

With „Scan“ the i-bus® Tool searches for devices in programming mode

When the i-bus® Tool is connected to a device, the "Display mode" is
active (all active buttons are disabled)

Changing to "Configuration mode" can be done with the control button
"Select configuration mode“ (send commands to the device)
