The Boosterthon Fun Run
is Coming!
Students and Parents...Mark your calendars and save the date!
The Boosterthon Fun Run kicks off at Eastvalley with a Pep Rally on Tuesday,
March 3rd, with the actual Fun Run taking place on Wednesday, March 11th. What
exactly is the Fun Run? It’s an awesome character and fitness event where every
student gets to participate in helping their school while having an incredible time!
It’s interactive, community-based, and promotes three specific values: FITNESS,
EDUCATION & CHARACTER. Students are challenged to get 10 pledges for the
laps they will be running around the track on March 11th. Students will run for 30
minutes and average 25-35 laps with a “lap cap” of 35. Every student receives an
All-Star t-shirt and parents are invited and encouraged to attend to cheer on the runners! Go to www.funrun.com to learn more about this fun and unique event.

From the Principal
March 2009
Dear Eastvalley Families,
February was a month of showing how we care for each other on Valentine’s Day.
Personally, I think it should be that way every day. All of us need to take the time
to tell and show our loved ones how much we appreciate them more than one day
a year. I certainly need to do a better job with the teachers, students and families
of Eastvalley. It’s very easy to get caught up in the little stuff that goes on in our lives daily and
neglect the important people around us. So, to each and every one of you…I appreciate the support you have shown the staff at Eastvalley, including myself. To the staff, I appreciate your dedication to the children and their needs. To the students, I appreciate your positive attitude towards
learning and other children.
In reading articles on praising children, the experts in the field say that when praising your child,
effective praise should be:
1. Superenthusiastic (think head cheerleader)
2. Specific to the desired behavior. Don’t say “Good job!” Instead say, “I like the
way you put away your toys when you were finished.”
3. Reinforced with a smile or a touch.
4. Frequent --..Too much praise is never an issue, unless its just superficial.
5. Immediately following the desired behavior, or as soon as you know about it
(positive notes home from the teacher should be addressed right away).
Again, I will work to increase my use of effective praise with all the significant people in my life.
I hope I have helped inspire you to do the same. I hope you all had a Happy Valentine’s Day!

Valentino.

March 2009
Hi Eastvalley Families,
Olá Famílias da Eastvalley,
We hope that you had a great time
at International Night. Thank you
to Alanne Orjoux for organizing
the event, but especially to all the
wonderful families that brought in tokens and food
from their countries to share. It was great to see
how many countries we all represent.
The PTA Nominating Committee has been
elected, and is looking for parents and staff to
serve on the PTA Executive Board. If you would
like to serve your school by holding a position next
school year, please contact Jyl Ozkan or Alanne
Orjoux.
Esperamos que tenham se divertido na Noite
Internacional. pela organização deste
evento, e especialmente à todas as famílias
escolhida, e estamos procurando pais e
favor contactar Jyl Ozkran or Alanne Orjoux.
The months are ticking away, but it doesn’t mean
that we are done making an impact. We still have
some great events coming up. Please continue to
support our children, staff, and school.
contrário, ainda teremos muitos eventos no futuro.
Por favor continue ajudando nossas crianças,
funcionários e nossa escola.
As always, if there is anything we can help you
with, please feel free to contact us.

EASTVALLEY’S INTERNATION
The Eastvalley PTA’s International Night on
Friday, Jan. 23rd was a big success, thanks to
the families that represented 20 different
countries and generously shared their
heritage, culture and cuisine.
The evening was also enhanced by the performance of international songs by the 2nd
grade classes, as well as the artistry and talent
of Richard Bernard, renowned musician,
and yes -- the brother of our own wonderful
music teacher and chorus director,
Mr. Anthony Bernard.

EASTVALLLEY EAGLE CHORUS WINS
OUTSTANDING MUSICAL ACHIEVEMENT AWARD!
The Eastvalley Eagle Chorus was
the recipient of the Outstanding
Musical Achievement Award at
the Broadway Junior Theater Festival!
Chorus Members attended this
once in a lifetime event held at
the Atlanta Hilton on January 17th
and 18th. The children performed
in front of judges, who were experts in the field of music, acting, and choreography. They attended workshops throughout the two days to learn how to hone their acting skills, and
increase their self-confidence. The two day event culminated with a trip to the
Cobb Energy Center to see the Broadway touring musical “Hairspray”. An
amazing experience for the children!
Despite being the youngest group in the competition, they worked together as a
team and rose to the occasion. It wasn't easy to beat all those high school and
middle school kids from all over the country (and Canada), but we did it! Be
proud of your kids! We are!
The trophy is on display in the music room.
A special thank-you goes out to directors Mr. Bernard, Mrs. Steinheimer
and Dr. Cunningham! Thanks, too, to all the chaperones who helped keep our
children safe, and in tow, over the course of the weekend trip!
Dear Parent or Student,
Get your pictures in the yearbook!

• Click "Save Details".
It’s that easy! Submit your photos today! The last day to submit photos is 3/1/2009.
The Yearbook Committee will review all photos and determine final yearbook content. We
cannot guarantee that all submissions can be used in the book.

CAREER DAY AT EASTVALLEY
Career Day was held at Eastvalley on
February 4, 2009 and enjoyed by students and staff. There were thirty five
speakers that participated to provide
the students with information concerning their careers - some of them
parents of students, and others from
various organizations.
Some of the speakers were from Cobb County Health, Cobb County
Fire, Cobb County Sheriff', Georgia Tech Fundraiser, Dish Network,
UPS, Humane Society, Army Medic, VP Big Ten Tires, Nuclear Auditor, Georgia Nighthawks DUI Task Force, PBA On Air Promotions,
Professor Bio Chemical Engineer; Chemical Engineer Environmental

Hopefully this helps the children to understand the importance of an education to reach
their future goals.
Thanks again to all of the
wonderful parents that
gave their time to participate. Also, thanks to Ms.
James and Ms. MacDonald for their support
in making the day a success. A very special
