Wenn wir unseren Freunden und Verwandten in
der alten Heimat erzählen,
dass unsere Kinder und
Enkelkinder in Winnipeg
Wochenende.
Im April treffen wir uns im
Schanklokal um 13 Uhr am
Mittwoch, den 6. und 20.
April.

Pub / Schanklokal
We are looking into getting a new cookbook published for either
Folklorama or the 125th Anniversary of the German Society of Winnipeg. We need your help by submitting your family’s favourite recipes to the club either by mail or e-mail: [email protected]. The
recipes must be yours or a family favourite. If you agree, your
name will be added to the printed recipe. We would need 4-6
recipes from each of you. They can be Polish, French, Russian,
Italian, German or whatever you were brought up with. We could
call the book “GSW Family Favourites Recipes Cookbook.”
For a good cookbook we need 100-200 recipes.
Please submit your recipes as soon as possible! The
deadline for submitting recipes is May 31, 2016.

Anneliese
Dear Members and Friends,
Here is hoping that you have all had a Happy Easter and that you and
your children/grandchildren are having a safe and enjoyable Spring
Break. The weather has been good and we all hope it stays that way well
into the summer.
The Staff all hope that you will join us in the Pub for the upcoming
events we have planned for April. Don’t forget the April Fools Party
on Friday, April 1st, of course! Your $5.00 admission will
give you a chance to win 2 tickets to “A Night with Janis
Joplin” at the Burton Cummings Theatre. Come make your
own Pizza or take part in other Pub Fair and specialty
drinks. Don’t forget a Raspberry Fool for dessert and enjoy
the music of the “Dixie Beats”.
In addition to our weekly buffet, you can also make reservations for
Rouladen Friday and/or Schnitzel Friday. Also, back by popular demand, “Eisbeinessen” on Friday, April 22nd. Reserve your tickets early
to ensure your spot. As usual Kassler and Smoked or Pickled Pork
Hocks can be chosen as the main course.
Coming to our Pub soon: Erdinger Alkoholfrei. I tasted
it in Erding, Germany and it was quite good. Just in time
for summer, this addition to our Alcohol Free or Light
Beer line-up should be a popular one.
Hope to see you soon.

Our plans for a concert in May will not occur this year. Instead,
we are now planning a concert in October and will let everyone
know all the details in due time.
The choir is now preparing for a performance at a Seniors Sing
concert in the afternoon and evening on Tuesday, May 3rd, at
Sturgeon Creek United Church in St. James. All are welcome to
attend this festival!
Our choir president and pianist, Reinhold, is at present playing a
third role, as director, from the piano bench, in the absence of
Christine, who has been visiting with her family in the US. Christine recently lost her brother, and we extend our sincere sympathies to her and her family. We look forward to Christine's return, and I’m sure Reinhold is as well!
Our choir practices continue on Wednesdays at 1:30 PM.
We hope everyone had a happy Easter season, and we
look forward to the return of spring again.
Until next time -Regina Knoll

125 Year Anniversary /Stiftungsfest
The 125th Anniversary Planning Committee is hard at work putting together a
“fun filled” “year long” celebration to
mark the long history of the German organization in Manitoba.
We will be kicking off the year with Früschoppen on New
Years Day. Each month we will highlight an event that we
hope you will enjoy while celebrating the history of the Club.
Stay tuned for Announcements and Presentations commemorating the Special People who have built and supported the
German Society of Winnipeg over the years. The committee
is working on a Calendar that will highlight these milestones
and keep you informed of upcoming events.
In order to accomplish this we will need financial assistance from members, the business community and friends of
“The Society”. Any contributions would be greatly appreciated. Sponsorship at any of the following levels will be mentioned in all communications, promotional material and announcements regarding the 125th Anniversary.
 $2000 Gold Level (Also included free tickets to events listed)
 $1000 Silver Level
 $500 Bronze Level
 Under $ 500 Friend Level
Your participation as a volunteer at any of the planned
events would also help to make this “Year” a time to remember for all.
