Audit Committee A new Audit Committee will be elected at the 2016 AGM. Members of the Audit Committee cannot hold positions on the Board, or any other position within the Society. They may hold positions within the Groups of the Society. Responsibilities of the Audit Committee are: 1) With the assistance of the Treasurer and the Office Administrator, the Audit Committee members are responsible for auditing all “books” of The Society at least once every six months, and reporting their findings to The Board. 2) The Audit Committee audits, approves and signs the Annual Financial Statements. The Audit Committee prepares and presents an annual report to The Board and general membership at the Annual General Meeting. 3) The Audit Committee spot checks the books, inventories and accounting for social functions and groups and ensures that GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) are followed. To reserve a table please call 204-582-8385 17 Pub / Schanklokal We are looking into getting a new cookbook published for either Folklorama or the 125th Anniversary of the German Society of Winnipeg. We need your help by submitting your family’s favourite recipes to the club either by mail or e-mail: [email protected]. The recipes must be yours or a family favourite. If you agree, your name will be added to the printed recipe. We would need 4-6 recipes from each of you. They can be Polish, French, Russian, Italian, German or whatever you were brought up with. We could call the book “GSW Family Favourites Recipes Cookbook.” For a good cookbook we need 100-200 recipes. Please submit your recipes as soon as possible! Instead, we are now planning a concert in October and will let everyone know all the details in due time. The choir is now preparing for a performance at a Seniors Sing concert in the afternoon and evening on Tuesday, May 3rd, at Sturgeon Creek United Church in St. James. All are welcome to attend this festival! Our choir president and pianist, Reinhold, is at present playing a third role, as director, from the piano bench, in the absence of Christine, who has been visiting with her family in the US. Christine recently lost her brother, and we extend our sincere sympathies to her and her family. We look forward to Christine's return, and I’m sure Reinhold is as well! Our choir practices continue on Wednesdays at 1:30 PM. We hope everyone had a happy Easter season, and we look forward to the return of spring again. Until next time -Regina Knoll 7 125 Year Anniversary /Stiftungsfest The 125th Anniversary Planning Committee is hard at work putting together a “fun filled” “year long” celebration to mark the long history of the German organization in Manitoba. We will be kicking off the year with Früschoppen on New Years Day. Each month we will highlight an event that we hope you will enjoy while celebrating the history of the Club. Stay tuned for Announcements and Presentations commemorating the Special People who have built and supported the German Society of Winnipeg over the years. The committee is working on a Calendar that will highlight these milestones and keep you informed of upcoming events. In order to accomplish this we will need financial assistance from members, the business community and friends of “The Society”. Any contributions would be greatly appreciated. Volunteer Lead Bartender: We are looking for a person that would like to organize a group of 4 volunteers to lead and operate the upper hall bar and the balcony bar for the week of Folkorama. If you do not have your card, that is no problem. This would be most appreciative and if you have any questions, please contact Esther. Volunteers in General: If you are interested in any particular opening or if you are available for the entire week of Folklorama or a just few days, please contact Anneliese so that she can get that information from you. Also, do not forget, if you have a day or only a few hours, would you consider coming down on Thursday and/or Friday and/or Saturday (Aug 4,5,6). We are always looking for help to setup the tables and chairs in the tent, the bars, the decorations, organize the pub etc. All your help is appreciated. Es werden auch Ankündigungen und Präsentationen gebracht werden um die besondere Leute zu Gedenken die die Deutsche Vereinigung von Winnipeg über die Jahre aufgebaut und unterstützt haben. Das Planungskomitee arbeitet an einem Kalendar das diese Meilensteine markieren wird und ihnen über bevorstehende Ereignisse informieren wird. Um dieses erreichen zu können brauchen wir Finanzielle Unterstützung von Mitgliedern, die Geschäftswelt und Freunde des Vereins. Alle Beiträge würden sehr geschätzt werden.
