Bergrindleder: Sehr strapazierfähiges Veloursleder, das ein spezielles Gerbverfahren durchläuft und stark wasserabweisend ist.
Herstellung aus bester süddeutscher Rohware mit kompakter
Faserstruktur – sehr hochwertig.
Fußbett: Einer Fußsohle nachgeformte dünne Unterlage aus Filz,
Leder o. ä, die in einen Schuh eingelegt wird. Wichtig: die richtige Materialauswahl.

G-1000®: Sehr robustes, praktisch winddichtes und
hoch atmungsaktives Mischgewebe aus 65 % Polyester und 35 % Baumwolle vom schwedischen
Outdoor-Hersteller Fjällräven. Die Behandlung mit
Fjällräven Grönland-Wax macht es wasserabweisend und verlängert die Lebensdauer.
Brandsohle: Das „Herz“ des Schuhs (von außen nicht sichtbar).
In der Produktion wird der fertig gesteppte Schaft auf die Brandsohle gezwickt. Darauf kommt anschließend die Sohleneinheit
(Zwischen- und Laufsohle).

Bunion-Leisten: Der HANWAG Bunion-Leisten wurde speziell für Menschen mit einem Hallux Valgus
(Schiefstand der Großzehe) entwickelt. Er bietet dem
Grundgelenk der Großzehe wesentlich mehr Platz.
Gerbung: Der Gerbprozess macht aus Tierhäuten haltbares Leder.
Dies geschieht durch mineralische, vegetabile, synthetische oder
gemischte Verfahren. HANWAG kauft sein Leder nur bei Gerbereien, die nach strengen, westeuropäischen ökologischen Richtlinien arbeiten.

Cordura®: Kunstfaser-Markenname von Invista / Dupont. HANWAG setzt ein leichtes, extrem scheuer- sowie reißfestes Gewebe aus texturierten Cordura® Polyamid 6.6 HT Fasern ein.

Gezwickte Machart: Alle HANWAG-Schuhe werden „gezwickt“,
d. h. der Schaft wird über die Brandsohle gearbeitet (Ausnahme: zwiegenäht und drei Kindermodelle). Durch dieses traditionelle und aufwändige handwerkliche Herstellungsverfahren
bekommt der Schuh hervorragende Stabilität und Formhaltigkeit. Gezwickte Schuhe können mehrfach neu besohlt werden

HANWAG fertigt die allermeisten Modelle
als Damen . - und Herren ,-Versionen, um
den geschlechtsspezifischen anatomischen
Unterschieden gerecht zu werden. Die
„Lady“-Modelle werden für den jeweiligen
Einsatzbereich auf speziellen Damenleisten
gefertigt, welche etwas schmäler angelegt
sind und sich auch in den Proportionen von
Herrenleisten unterscheiden.

feature a special female last, respectively
adapted to the demands of the activity. The
female lasts are slightly slimmer and the

de Modelle und nehmen nur solche neuen Modelle und Features auf, von denen wir selbst
überzeugt sind.
Alaska Winter GTX®
So wie von unserer Hanwag IceGrip Sohle, einer rutschhemmenden Sohle, die dank mikrosko
pisch kleiner Glaspartikel in den Stollen auf Glatteis mehr Reibung erzeugt. Vor inzwischen
acht Jahren haben wir das Konzept als erster Schuhhersteller überhaupt eingeführt. In diesem
Winter haben wir die Gummimischung der IceGrip Sohle weiter verbessert und führen eine
neue, besonders leichte Version der Sohle – HANWAG ICEGRIP XLT – ein (siehe Seite 10).

Unser Augenmerk liegt im Winter 2015 besonders auf dem Thema Isolierung. Dafür konnten
wir Goldeck Textil als Partner gewinnen. Das österreichische Unternehmen entwickelte
nach unseren Vorgaben das Kunstfaservlies G-LOFT FIT als exklusives Material zur Wärme
dämmung: leicht, robust, extrem gut isolierend und „Made in Austria“ (siehe Seite 6). Unsere
neuen Modelle Alaska Winter GTX® und Ströv GTX®, das bestehende Modell Lhamo GTX® sowie
unsere bekannten High-End Stiefel Abisko GTX® und Fjäll Extreme GTX® rüsten wir damit aus.

Ströv GTX®
Bei den zwei zuletzt genannten haben wir außerdem die Thermo-Innenschuhe komplett
überarbeitet. Diese fertigen wir ab sofort aus einem luftigen Gewirk, kombinieren es mit der
stark isolierenden Kunstfaser, einer wärmereflektierenden Aluminiumschicht und einem
Thermoschaum – für maximale Wärme bei zugleich niedrigem Gewicht.

Weiterhin neu: zwei leichte Winterwanderstiefel für gemäßigte Verhältnisse – Vetur GTX®

Quality before quantity –
Take for example, the Hanwag IceGrip sole. It’s a sole that provides good grip in winter, even on
black ice – thanks to microscopically small glass particles in special tread zones that literally claw
into the surface of ice. We were the first footwear manufacturer to introduce this concept – over
eight years ago. This winter, we’ve further improved the IceGrip sole’s rubber compound and are
introducing a new, particularly lightweight version – HANWAG ICEGRIP XLT (see page 10).

Winter 2015 sees a greater emphasis on insulation. In this respect, we are delighted to be
working with Goldeck Textil. The Austrian high-tech insulation specialists have developed a
new, innovative synthetic fibre fabric exclusively for Hanwag, according to our specifications.
G-LOFT FIT is robust, lightweight and provides excellent insulation. It’s also “Made in Austria”
(see page 6). We use it for our new models Alaska Winter GTX® and Ströv GTX®, as well as the
existing Lhamo GTX® and the well-known, high-end Abisko GTX® and Fjäll Extreme GTX®.

Information
And there’s more. We’re introducing two new lightweight winter hiking boots for use in moderate
conditions – Vetur GTX® and Jaur GTX® and two new high-cut URBAN WINTER boots – the Tolja
GTX® for women and the Härje GTX® for men. Last, but not least, we’ve given our popular Canto
Mid and Canto Low Winter GTX® models a facelift.
Accessories
On the latter two models the innerboot has been completely overhauled. These are made of an
airy knitted fabric, combined with synthetic G-LOFT FIT for insulation and a heat-reflective
aluminium layer and liner thermofoam – for maximum warmth at minimum weight.

Von Goldeck Textil beziehen wir ab diesem
Winter ein neues Isolationsmaterial, das sei
nesgleichen sucht: G-LOFT FIT. Das österrei
chische Unternehmen hat das synthetische
Nadelvlies nach unseren Vorgaben entwi
ckelt und produziert es exklusiv für uns (in
Seeboden, Kärnten). G-LOFT FIT ist robust,
sehr wasserdampfdurchlässig und vereint
die Vorzüge natürlicher Daune – geringes
Gewicht bei sehr hoher Wärmeleistung – mit
der Feuchtigkeitsunempfindlichkeit einer
Kunstfaser.

Das Geheimnis des herausragenden Wär
merückhaltevermögens liegt im bi-kompo
nenten Aufbau von G-LOFT FIT: Die Fasern
bestehen aus zwei verschiedenen Roh
stoffen, die sich beim Abkühlen nach dem
Spinnprozess unterschiedlich stark zusam
menziehen. Dadurch nimmt die Faser eine
dauerhafte Spiralform an. Diese hat gleich
mehrere Vorteile. Die eingeschlossene Luft
sorgt für eine hohe Wärmedämmung, die
offene Struktur zugleich für eine sehr gute
Wasserdampfdurchlässigkeit. Hinzu kommt
der „Memory Effekt“: Die spiralförmigen
Fasern springen auch nach starker Kom
primierung stets in ihre wärmende, luftige
Ursprungsform zurück und bieten so dau
erhaften Kälteschutz. Dank dieser Eigen
schaften reicht bereits eine verhältnismäßig
dünne Lage des Materials, um eine hohe
Wärmeleistung zu erreichen – schließlich
soll man in Hanwag Winterschuhe nicht nur
herumstehen, sondern auch gut gehen kön
nen. Durch die wasserabweisenden Eigen
schaften der G-Loft Faser bleibt die Isolation
auch beim Einsatz in nasskalter Umgebung
leistungsfähig und ermöglicht eine rasche
Rücktrocknung.
Wir setzen G-LOFT FIT in unterschiedlichen
Stärken für die Schaftisolation bei fünf
unserer Wintermodelle ein und kombinieren
es mit ausgewählten Obermaterialien sowie
einem wasserdichten, atmungsaktiven
GORE-TEX® Futter. Eine zusätzliche Boden
isolierung unter der Brandsohle und ein
herausnehmbares Thermo-Fußbett wärmen
zusätzlich von unten. Für rundum warme
Füße.

G-LOFT FIT, an innovative insulation material made exclusively for Hanwag by Goldeck
Textil in Austria. This synthetic, non-woven
insulation fabric is produced according to our
exact specifications in Seeboden in Carinthia,
Austria.
G-LOFT FIT is robust, very breathable and
has characteristics similar to natural down –
it’s lightweight and provides excellent insulation. In addition, it’s insensitive to moisture.

The secret of its insulation performance lies
in G-LOFT FIT’s bi-component fibres. These
fibres consist of two different raw materials
that, after the spinning process, contract to
different degrees during cooling. As a result,
the fibres are have a crimped spiral form –
similar to a coiled spring. This provides a
number of important advantages. The fibres
trap air clusters providing an optimal insulation. Their open structure also ensures very
good moisture vapour transmission (breathability). In addition, they have a memory effect
– G-LOFT’s spiral-formed fibres always return
to their original fluffy, warming shape, even
when compressed. The result: long-lasting
insulation. Thanks to these characteristics,
a relatively thin layer of G-LOFT is sufficient
to provide good insulation. After all, Hanwag
winter boots are made for active use, not
standing about in. Importantly, G-LOFT
fibres’moisture-resistant characteristics

Schneeschuhauflage ist eine Art
Gumminase oberhalb der Ferse. Der Riemen
des Schneeschuhs liegt auf ihr auf und wird
davor gehindert, durch die Laufbewegung
nach unten abzurutschen.

einzeln als Hüttenschuh nutz- und im
Schlafsack trockenbar.
Beim
„Electric Heating System“ (kurz EH)
werden im Schaft von der Spitze und bis
zur Ferse Heizelemente eingebaut. Der Hjort
EH ist der erste unserer Schuhe mit diesem
System.
Unser
Filz besteht aus Wolle und Polyester.
Filz ist sehr warm, bietet tollen Klimakom
fort und ist wasserabweisend.

für mehr Komfort ein herausnehmbares
Thermo-Fußbett hinein, je nach Futter bie
ten wir 3 verschiedene Versionen an.

Für besonders kalte Tage setzten wir bei
allen Wintermodellen eine zusätzliche
Bodenisolierung ein. Der WarmthPLUS Layer
unter der Brandsohle schützt noch besser
vor Bodenkälte.

Bei Nubuk handelt es sich um ein edles,
robustes Leder, bei der die Narbenseite (die
Seite, die vom Körper des Tieres weg zeigt)
für eine samtige und gleichmäßige Optik
leicht angeschliffen wurde.

dischen Outdoor-Hersteller Fjällräven
entwickelt. Das Mischgewebe aus 65 % Poly
ester und 35 % Baumwolle ist sehr r obust,

G-1000 Heavy Duty was developed by the
Swedish outdoor specialist Fjällräven. The
hybrid fabric made of 65 % polyester and
35 % cotton is very robust, windproof and
breathable. In order to make it fully waterproof we combine it with GORE-TEX®.
Lambswool is a natural resource, used for its
superb insulation performance. In addition,
it’s breathable, prevents foot odour thanks to
its antibacterial effect and always feels dry.

Mit der HANWAG IceGrip Sohle präsentierten
wir vor acht Jahren als erster Schuhhersteller
überhaupt eine Laufsohle mit deutlich mehr
Reibung auf Glatteis. Das Geheimnis dahin
ter sind mikroskopisch kleine Glaspartikel
in den Stollen, die sich wie Sandpapier in die
Eisoberfläche „krallen“.
Diese Technologie bewährt sich in der Praxis
sehr gut und hat bereits Nachahmer gefun
den. Da wir aber der Meinung sind, dass
es noch besser geht, haben wir die IceGrip
Gummimischung weiter entwickelt. Sie ist
nun noch rutschfester – und außerdem noch
haltbarer und somit langlebiger.
Mit der IceGrip XLT führen wir in diesem
Winter eine neue Sohlenversion ein. Wie der
Name schon sagt, basiert sie auf der IceGrip
LT für geräumte Wege. Die XLT ist noch
leichter und stark gedämpft.
Eight years ago we were the first footwear
manufacturer to launch a sole with signifi
cantly improved grip on black ice – the
HANWAG IceGrip sole. The secret behind it
is the microscopically small glass particles
in the tread blocks that literally claw into the
surface of the ice to provide better slip-resistance. The effect is similar to sandpaper.

GEZWICKTE MACHART – LANGLEBIG UND WIEDERBESOHLBAR
Es gibt viele Arten Schuhe herzustellen.
Aber nur zwei Arten, um wirklich robustes
und langlebiges Schuhwerk zu fertigen:
Zwiegenäht und klebegezwickt. Bei Hanwag
fertigen wir sämtliche Modelle (Ausnahme
drei Kindermodelle), die nicht nach alter
Handwerkskunst zwiegenäht werden, in
gezwickter Machart. Bei diesem handwerk
lich anspruchsvollen und aufwändigen
Verfahren zieht der Schuster den Schaft über
den Leisten nach unten über die Brandsohle
und fixiert diesen, so dass eine Einheit
entsteht. Anschließend werden Zwischenund Laufsohle montiert.
Vorteile: Klebegezwicktes Schuhwerk ist
besonders formbeständig und bei richtiger
Pflege sehr langlebig. Wir sind vermutlich
der weltweit einzige Hersteller, der auch
alle Halbschuhe zwickt.

Falls die Laufsohle verschlissen ist, kann der
Schuh ohne Probleme neu besohlt werden.
Das machen wir bei Hanwag in Vierkirchen
selbst. Viele Kunden nehmen diesen Service
gerne in Anspruch, schließlich sind ihre
Schuhe perfekt eingelaufen. Und häufig „kle
ben“ daran wunderbare Erinnerungen. Immer
wieder erhalten wir Schuhe zur Wiederbe
sohlung, die schon Jahrzehnte auf dem Buckel
haben. Da blüht unser Handwerkerherz voller
Stolz auf. Das ist Qualität.

CEMENTED CONSTRUCTION –
LONG-LASTING AND RESOLABLE
There are plenty of different ways to
make boots and shoes. However, there
are only two techniques that make them
really robust and long-lasting: traditionallyhandcrafted double stitching and cemented construction. We make all our footwear
(with the exception of three Junior models)
using one of these two techniques. The
cemented construction is a complex and
time-consuming method where the upper
is moulded and stretched over the last and
attached (lasted) to the insole to form a
unit. Subsequently the midsole and outsole
are added.
Advantages: Cemented construction
footwear is particularly robust (and shape
retentive) and, if properly looked after, will
last a very long time. We are probably the
only manufacturer in the world to make
not just all our boots but also all our shoes
with a cemented construction.
The great advantage is that once the sole
is worn down, it can simply be removed
and resoled. Hanwag does this at its own
premises in Vierkirchen. It is a popular
service, after all these boots are perfectly
worn in; people just do not want to replace
them. In fact, they are often long-standing
companions and the source of many happy
memories. We often receive boots to be resoled that have seen years and years of use.
It is something that makes us proud. That is
what we call quality.
Double-stitched footwear is easy to recognise by its characteristic double row
of stitching. There are two different ways
of doing this – there is “genuine” double
stitching and “false” double stitching.
We only use the first of these techniques.

ZWIEGENÄHT – TECHNIK
Grundsätzlich erkennt man zwiegenäht
hergestelltes Schuhwerk an der charakteris
tischen Doppelnaht. Aber es gibt zwei un
terschiedliche Macharten – die „echte“ und
die „verfälschte“ zwiegenähte Machart. Wir
fertigen unsere Zwiegenähten ausnahmslos
nach der „echten“ Variante.
Beim „Zwienähen“ wird zunächst die Brand
sohle (das „Herzstück“ des Schuhs) ausge
stanzt und auf den Leisten geheftet. Dann
geht es an die erste Naht, die so genannte
Einstechnaht: Wir nähen das Oberleder mit
dem Futter und der Brandsohlenlippe (Erhe
bung am Rand der Brandsohle) zusammen.
Ist diese erste Naht fertig, muss man „aus
schlagen“, das heißt Oberleder und Futter
im rechten Winkel nach außen legen.
Bei einigen Modellen kommt außen noch
der Rahmen dazu. In dieser Position ent
fernen wir dann die Überstände von Vor
der- und Hinterkappe sowie vom Futter. Das
„Zuviel“ an Oberleder bleibt und wird mit
einer zweiten Naht – der Doppelnaht – mit
umgenäht. Sie verbindet Oberleder, Rahmen
(wenn vorhanden) und Zwischensohle. Das
Oberleder ist so fest durch zwei Nähte mit
dem Schuhboden verbunden. Fertig ist der
echt „zwiefach“ Genähte!
Schuhe, die in dieser Machart gefertigt
werden, halten beinahe „ewig“. Sie zeichnen
sich durch ihre Formstabilität aus und kön
nen jederzeit neu besohlt werden.

richtigen Pflege ewig. Es gibt nur
noch wenige Schuster, die
dieses Handwerk beherrschen.“
Look after them and your double-stitched boots will
last you a lifetime. Only a few bootmakers are still able
to master this traditional handcrafted technique.
Unser „Seniorchef“ Sepp Wagner, Neffe des Gründers
von Hanwag, Hans Wagner, hat die Firma über 50 Jahre
lang geleitet.
Here is how we do it. First we punch out
the insole (the foundation or heart of the
shoe that cannot be seen from outside)
and tack it to the last. Then we introduce
the first row of stitching. This stitching
connects the leather upper and the lining
to the insole rib (a lip on the insole used
to stitch it to the lasted upper). Once this
first row of stitching is completed we
turn up the upper.
On certain models a reinforcing strip is
also added to the side of the boot at this
point. Next, we trim any excess material
from the heel and toe cap and from the
lining. The remainder, i.e. the leather upper margin (aka flange) is then secured
with a second row of stitching. This
second row of stitching (hence double
stitching) joins the leather upper, reinforcing strip (if applicable) and midsole.
The finished boot has an upper that is
secured by two strong rows of stitching.
This is genuine double stitching.
Boots made using this technique last literally for ever. They are extremely robust,
retain their shape and are easy to resole.

Bunions (hallux valgus), a bony protuberance
at the base of the big toe, are one of the most
common problems that people experience
with their feet. The main causes are thought
to be wearing shoes that are too small or
too tight and high heels. No wonder that it
mainly affects women – and many boulderers
and climbers.

Der Schiefstand der Großzehe (medizinisch:
Hallux Valgus) ist eine der am häufigsten
auftretenden Fehlstellungen der Füße. Als
Hauptursachen gelten zu kleine und enge
Schuhe sowie hohe Absätze. Kein Wunder
also, dass vor allem Frauen darunter leiden –
aber auch viele Boulderer und Sportkletterer.

of joint cartilage. People almost always find
that normal footwear is painful to wear.
This is why we developed a unique Bunion
Last in Summer 2013. It provides additional
room for the big-toe joint. We are delighted
that our existing models have proved so
popular and are now also offering two
winter models made with a Bunion Last.

Gezwickte Machart: Alle HANWAG-Schuhe werden „gezwickt“,
